New Tangled DVD skips

We bought Tangled on Amazon and put it directly into the DVD player. DD12 knows how to handle a DVD and put it right from the box into the player. We went to the menu to play and it kept repeating the whistling Mickey. We went back to the menu and tried to choose Chapter 2 and it just froze. We can let it play without using the menu, but each time, when Rapunzel and Flynn are in the water in the cave it skips about a minute's worth.

When you look at the disc there are some marks on one place. I tried to gently clean but they don't come off.

Amazon's return information only talks about new, unopened DVDs. I don't know if they would take a return on this or not.

Anybody have suggestions on either making the DVD work right, or have dealt with Amazon in a similar situation?

They will most likely exchange it for another copy. Just do there online return to get an RMA number.

I can't help you with the Amazon issue, but that happened to us. At first I thought it was our dvd player, but we didn't have any problems with our other dvds. I ended up returning it to Target for a replacement and it worked fine, so our first copy was definitely defective. Call or e-mail them. I'm sure they'll take it back.

I got mine from Disneystore.com and it also skips and freezes right out of the box!! I havent had a chance to return it to store yet though....

hmmm we got ours at the Disney Store, it's been watched a few times but last night it was skipping....I wonder if there were some bad copies out there.

That kind of thing happens sometimes. (a precursor to DVDs, Laser Discs, were horrible for this...I remember our family having to go through something like FOUR copies of The Jerk before getting one that would play through)

Amazon considers it to be a defective item, and such items aren't subject to the normal "not opened" rules for returns. I'm pretty sure there's a defective item choice when you're getting the return label online.

DVDs are considered to be software. So if you wanted your money back it would have to be unopened, mostly due to copyright laws... Since you want a replacement you should be fine. See if you can get them to pay for the return shipping... Also, a dvd is "media" so if you have to pay for return shipping ask the post office to charge you the media mail price. Good luck.

I bought The Wizard of Oz from Amazon last summer and the same thing happened, started skipping right out if the box. They exchanged it, no questions asked.

With amazon, these thing won't be an issue. Say the OP was so disgusted with the situation, she went out and bought it at a brick and mortar store. I'm SURE that an amazon rep would accept the defective item back and give a refund. And they aren't going to charge return shipping (or shipping for the second item) for this defective item.

A series of DVDs that skip is common. And I'm sure that a seasoned amazon rep will be glad that there was nothing else wrong....(says a former CS rep there who got a phone call, part of a series of calls, about a disney movie that had something ELSE recorded on the disc back at the DVD pressing company, something x rated...)
