New Starwood/Amex card free points for applying now

I just received info on the new free points promotion for people who apply for this card now. I just got my Amex/Starwod card last month. Do you think Starwood would give me the free points? I haven't even gotten my first bill yet.

I called Starwood. Their Customer Assistance person said that this promo is coming through AMEX so would need to call them. Called AMEX. Was told that I would have to reapply for the card to get the current promotion points.

One the brighter side, while talking to Starwood (after reading these boards) asked if my account should be upgraded to Gold since I do have the Plantinum Starwood AMEX. Was told, yes and she has already entered the upgrade. I had previously sent an E mail and they give me "Preferred Plus" status. Not Gold. So am happy camper anyway. If anyone knows how to print a "temp" card from the website, please let me know. Have a business trip in 3weeks and unknown if card will come by then.

For this promo! The points are definitely worth the card, which is free for the initial year...then a fee of about $30 annually. Please call American Express for all details since SPG is not promoting this special.

I called AMEX yesterday to see if I would be eligible for this promotion since my card is so new and they told me to call Starwood. I called Starwood today and they told me to call AMEX. I called AMEX again and had a lovely lady put me on hold to research this and she told me to call Starwood! I explained the whole situation and she came back on and said since I just got my card in April that I would be eligible for the points. She said wait for about 60 days for them to be posted. Yeah! Now I'll have to keep an eye open to be sure they do get posted to my account.
