You are so right about tipping. We had a talk on the last morning with our serving team as they kept thanking us for the tip, phone cards, and basically just how much they enjoyed the week with us. We told them they more than deserved it and we knew they got stiffed once in a while. The server pointed to the next table and said it wasn't supposed to be on their rotation, but someone wanted early seating so they made them set it up at the last minute. It was a couple with 2 children and the couple only came 2 of the nights on the 7 night cruise and of course it wasn't the last night. No tips even though the team had to set the table etc. as if they were coming every night. How sad!

The other thing they really seemed to appreciate is just in how they were spoken too. I would always say please, thank you, ask how their day was etc. Many others don't do that - they just expect to be served. You could tell in how they interacted with us that it made a difference. In fact we saw it at our own table. It was just DH, me and my in-laws. DH and I would joke and talk with them every night, the in-laws just barely.

Glad you all understood about my concerns over tipping - so many couples will no show up on the last night or morning just so they won't have to tip. And of course, those were the most demanding of all the tables for the servers. Hey, we hear them since we are seated next to them!!!!!!!

Melody - everything I do with my dog or horse, I do very slowly and gain their trust. Once they know I won't hurt them, they will allow me to treat or train them.
I just hope people turn away from "cat man" at Key West - I also don't care for wild animals performing.

Ann - you and those bears and foxes! It's your neighbors that are the wild animals - I saw that article in the paper about them - no account for stupidity in humans, is there? Glad you noticed Michael and Red - quite a team. He will compete next year on the 4-H level at the local fair. He's already anticipating tropies, ribbons and accolades!!!!

Mary - the most embarassing moment in my life was when w girlfriends and I went to breakfast and one of them was not only rude to the waitress but just down right condescending. It was a chore for me to get through the meal and when they left, I apologized to the girl for my ex-friend's behavior. She said she was used to it. This really distressed me and I later spoke to the ex friend about it - her attitude was, "She is there to serve me. Big deal." And this woman is a secretary of one of the local Churches - real Christian, isn't she?!

I was reading all the comments on tipping and decided to start a new thread on the subject. I had quite a few questions.

Rae519, I hope you hop over there. I really like your philosophy on tipping and rewarding those that do a service for you.
