A healthy life once the lungs fully develop

The lungs are the last thing to develop. Babies born at 36 weeks can have problems. So, this unwanted, unhealthy (at least at birth) baby is now in the child welfare system. How many people are out there willing to adopt an unhealthy premature baby?

That's if the mother doesn't want to keep it, but so many people can't have children I am sure somebody would want it. They just need to make it easier to adopt a baby from the U.S. so more people would adopt those unwanted children.

It wouldn't be that severe! A friend of mine had a baby that was premature. She was a little under 6 months pregnant and the baby is 7 now and you would never know she wasn't born at full term.

I was lucky, I was adopted at 3 days old. before we moved to florida, my company held a christmas party every year for children who lived in the same 'children's home' from where I was adopted. some of those kids were 14 years old. so no, there are unwanted kids out there.

man, in florida if you adopt a foster child, they pay for everything. there's no cost to you. they even pay to send him/her to a state university to get their college degree. it couldn't be any easier to adopt a kid.

Unfortunately people don't want to adopt older kids, which is so sad. But unwanted babies would be adopted if adoption laws changed a bit.

Change the laws, I'm fine with that. But, there will still be more children flooding into the system.

I'm not up on adoption laws. but I think if adoption is going to be a positive sway from abortion, there needs to be one. if the birth mother's expenses are paid by the adoptive family and they reach a binding agreement, that's it. the birth mother should have no way to back out of the agreement, it's a legal contract. the adoptive parents get the baby. the birth mother should have had an abortion.

I know the birth mother has time to claim she wants the baby back. I believe it is a year I'm not sure on that. Which, I don't believe is right either. I think once you give up the baby and it leaves to go up for adoption that should be it, but if the birth mother changes her mind before the baby leaves the hospital I think the birth mother should have the right to do that.

True, but unfortunatly the unwanted children are the older children not the ones that are being aborted.

disagree. make it a legal binding document. if you want to save an abortion, you need to give in, there is no turning back for the birth mother. if capable perents are willing to pay the expenses, there should be no way the birth mother has any rights to the baby if she accepts the contract. an adoption and birth mother support can cost tens of thousands of dollars. an abortion can be done for under $500.00 these days.

My daughter was born at 23 weeks due to a car accident. She was 1 lb 2oz at birth. Her two older brothers were killed in the same accident, the day prior.

Yes, she was a million dollar baby. But she is now a healthy, lively, loving, intelligent, capable 6 year old. She was what I lived for after the accident. So that million dollars saved both her life and mine.

I do see your point, but sometimes sarcasm can be awfully (unintentionally)cruel. I do also apologize for taking this subject slightly off-topic. But this post just hit hard.

man, in florida if you adopt a foster child, they pay for everything. there's no cost to you. they even pay to send him/her to a state university to get their college degree. it couldn't be any easier to adopt a kid.

No way. That's not adoption, that's baby buying, and is illegal for a good reason.

I am pro-choice WRT abortion and adoption. A woman needs to know what it feels like to actually be a mother to a living, born human being, before she can make the decision whether to place her baby for adoption. Most states give the woman anywhere from 48 hours to a month to make this decision, with only a few going as long as 6 months or so, and in those cases the birthmother often has to prove fraud or duress. After that, when everything is done correctly, it is a legally binding document. The sensational cases you hear about in the media where toddlers are given back to their birthfamilies are cases in which something was not done properly according to the laws of the state.

Come on. If you're paying money to adopt a baby, you're essentially "buying". "Adoption" is just a euphamism. Yeah, you can't go into an alley somewhere and just buy a baby off some guy. But, even through a respected agency, you're still paying money and receive a baby in return. And I agree there should be no waiting period for the birth mother to change her mind. Why would anyone want to bring a baby home from the hospital knowing the baby could be ripped from your house at any time?
