New Resort Idea!!!

I think a tropical theme would be good because if you think about the other places honeymooners and couples go are tropical places like Hawaii and the bahamas. The only problem I could see with it being like that is that they already have something like that in the Poly.

If we go with the Oasis theme how about calling the lounge "Midnight's" ya know "Midnight at the Oasis" song. :)
No offense, but that song... :crazy2: BLEECH!!! Nothing says fun like a pitfully lame song from the 70's ;) !!! I'm just old enough to remember that song unfortunately!!
You've got to remember that the large number of adults coming to this "adults only" resort would be 20-30 somethings with no kids. Most of our friends are in their 30's and don't have kids. I'm 35 and just expecting my first. The demographic has changed and many people are waiting to have kids until they've acheived other goals as well. Could it be that you are looking for a resort for middle aged (50-60's) people? That would probably scare off the younger crowd, and probably the older crowd as well. No one wants to feel old at WDW. It's for the young at heart!!! ::MickeyMo

I think the theming and price structure of the resort would dictate the clientele. I would like to see a more upscale resort but still with the Disney imagination in the theming. "Adults" in their early 20's don't usually look to spend $400.00 a night and hang out in posh lounges drinking $12.00 martini's while being pampered at a spa. I am 35 and would love to have a nice quiet resort to come back to after a day of enjoying my "lost youth" at the parks.

I completely disagree with you..........it wouldn't just be the 30 year olds that don't have kids yet........many 30 year old don't want kids either and there are many 40 year olds whose kids are grown and out the door, and as for the 50-60 year olds, well all you have to do is go to a concert at EPCOT during the F&W festival or the F&G Festival to see that the 50-60 year olds are not in the same catagory as they once were, many of them are grown up hippies and many of them are riding Harleys! I am in my 40's and believe me I like to have a good time (we are not dead and we are not all wearing depends!) The resort idea was for some place for adults to enjoy a little down time away from kids for a more relaxed atmosphere, and most of us are at WDW because we are still young. We are young at heart just don't want to deal with kids 24 hours a day anymore! As for the song, I can't say I liked it either but it is a great name for a lounge area for a resort of this name. As far as scareing off the younger crowd well........a think as much as us "older" folks like to have fun too, we don't really want a "spring break" atmosphere either! Besides an adult only resort would be for people who want the break there are many other resorts on Disney property that appeal to whatever anybody wants or is looking for. We were just suggesting a resort for childless people who want to enjoy themselves.

DH & I are taking our last WDW vacation without DD20 months. We're staying at POFQ, but we'd like an adults only resort, and would have LOVED one on our honeymoon, sort of like Sandals. More romantic.

Now, the first time that dh and I went to DW we were without a child. We liked it then and had a good time, then when we went back 4 other times we had our ds with us, and we LOVED it even more. So I know what you are meaning, BUT.......

Having an Adult ONLY hotel is crazy. Disney is for the KIDS in all of us and the little kids whos eyes look at all those fun and wonderful things ot to be included.

If you want an Adults ONLY Disney hangout, then dont go. Stay home! Or go to one of the more tropical resorts like Sandles. But if you are continuing to want to hang at DW then you will jsut have to suck it up a bit. I think that all kids are a joy and my dh and I LOVE watching all those kids having a good time, it makes the trip that much better!

DOnt get me wrong I almost understand because I have been on both side of the fence, and I enjoyed both ways. Taking the kids out of DISNEY is like tkaing the FUN out. That is what its all about.

I agree with you although I don't think it needs to be quite that plush!at $400.00 a night I would be back to square one and staying at POP. The 20-30 year olds with out kids are probably more into Universal anyways although many are still into the "pixie dust" most are more into the thrill rides these days!

See its people like you that totally missed the point... it is all about expanding people's options. I love kids to, and it is great to see them in the parks... but it would be wonderful to have an adult only option.

YOU don't have to go if you don't like the idea... but why make a stink if it isn't hurting you.

Do you realize that Disney is for everybody, and why else would Disney have festivals like Food and Wine and Flower and Garden and Soap Stars weekend if it were not geared to the adults, I agree that Disney is great to experience through a child's eyes but it also has many things for many ages, the thread just suggested that it would be nice to have a refuge from the kids for a period of time during the day, not that any of us dislike kids we just need an escape from them from time to time! Sandles is not Disney! We go to Disney because that is where we want to be, and we ALL suck it up and realize there are going to be children there, it was just suggested as a resort idea.....geez some people take things to personally! I'm done with this thread, some people just get to nasty with their opinions instead of just disagreeing.

I do like the idea, and I wouldn't be opposed. But, I can see the people who are against it. Would it bother you to go to McDonald's and see an area that was for adults only? WDW is a place for families, so to have a resort that would require a lot of money and planning is excluding that family. But, then again, Disney does like to promote the fact that it is a great place for an adult trip also. So, it's hard to say. That might be an area that would offend too many people and Disney might not touch it.

Would it offend people who were couples only if you were not allowed at a resort because they wanted to make it a place where kids could be kids? Say that resort was the Grand Floridian. If Disney wanted to make that a resort where kids didn't have to worry about being quiet at the pool or lobby because they might offend someone, would that be okay? I'm picking a nice resort, because the Oasis is a nice resort and it's something comparable.

Like I said, I'm not opposed to the idea. I'm the last parent to take my children to a fancy restaurant where it would normally be "adults only" I know not everyone can see the halos on my children :) But, I do understand why something like this hasn't been done.

I suppose then there's no need for the adults-only pool on the Disney Cruise Line? I guess childless adults shouldn't take a Disney Cruise?

Like heck!

Disney recognized that they needed to cater to a specific demographic. It doesn't interfere with anybody, and it doesn't alienate or offend anybody.

I don't see what the harm in building an adults only resort would be. I think many on this thread have said that they love and HAVE their own children, but would love an escape for a couple of days.

What's wrong with that?

I think that ONE adults only resort can peacefully co-exist with the already TWENTY resorts that are for families.

Disney is for families and families don't always consists of two parents and some children. There is absolutely nothing wrong with an Adult resort, especially since there are so many others that are specifically geared towards children, and adults with children.

Wouldnt it be nice to have Disney open up an ADULT only Resort! I know Disney is for children and all that, but this is for adults who dont have kids, or parents that have children grown up and dont go to Disney.

I think that would be a great Resort! I know that me and my DH like to stay at the WL because it is a more "grown up atmosphere".

Anyone else who goes to Disney without kids have an opinion on my idea? :thewave:

No, I do not think it's a good idea. There are plenty of places around the world that cater to Adults Only. This is, and should be, for families.

We've been going to WDW at least twice a year since college and never utter the "U" word while we're there!!! As I've said, I'm 35 and we've been childless until this year. And let me remind you, $400/room/night is not cost prohibitive for many 20-30 somethings anymore. Times have surely changed. My mom is still floored by the salaries we young-uns' make these days.
The marketing of this concept would be troubled enough, as many people think "family" when thinking Disney. As a matter of fact, WDW is making money hand over fist with the Grand Gatherings concept, getting GD, GM, Mom, Dad, and the kids all together for a trip, which flies in the face of an "adults only" resort. It's just not Disney thinking. ::MickeyMo Now Las Vegas thinking for sure, but not Disney!

I was just expressing MY opinion. I have been on both side of the fence. It was not hateful or putting anyone else down, I was just giving my point of view. Its not a stink, just an opinion.

Sometime you shoudlnt take thing so seriously. This is JUST a message board not US making decisions FOR Disney. Its just opinions!!

That's definitely true. Since my first honeymoon in '98, I've spent anywhere from $100/night to $600/night depending on the resort and codes available. I would think an average was about $300/night. And we weren't the only ones our age spending that kind of money on vacations. Tahiti is a huge destination for honeymooners and their overwater bungalows are $1,000 a NIGHT! :faint:

All through my twenties I visited WDW and I stayed moderate and deluxe. If WDW built an adults-only resort on a deluxe scale, I'd be all over it (if the location was prime).

No one has mentioned whether an adults-only resort would be against state law. Wouldn't it be discriminating against age?

That said, I don't see why we have to apologize for not liking children. I don't like children. That's why I don't have any. It doesn't mean I don't enjoy them or say "aww" when I see a particularly cute baby, or love my nieces and nephews any less.

I agree it was a mistake to open Pleasure Island to minors; but, frankly, Disney makes way too much money overcharging families with children to reconsider what is a very lucrative policy.

For the moment, I'll enjoy my adults-only time where I can find it: at the lounges and bars.

An adults only hotel is a nice idea. For those who say it's silly since WDW is all about children, all I can say is you must never have been to the WDW golf courses. I took my teenage nephew and his friend golfing at the Magnolia Palms. It had such a quiet, upscale, adult, country club atmosphere, it was hard to believe that the Magic Kingdom was only a block away! All the employees and patrons looked like they had just walked in from Palm Springs or Palm Beach! The only concession to that fact that this was WDW was a few, very small very discrete Mickey's on some of the golf wear in the Pro Shop (and the Mickey-shaped sandtrap on the course).

DH and I go to the Food and Wine Festival every year. It's completely adult-oriented (wine drinking and all). The special dinners, etc., are simply not for kids.

One thing you can say about Disney -- the company is a marketing genius. They figure out how to make a wide variety of people of all ages happy.

By the way, an adults-only hotel isn't discriminatory. There are plenty of 55 and older retirement communities.

I like the idea of having the resort on the old Discovery Island. It would be access by boat only. The Oasis surrounded by water. They could have a themed reception area on shore where the transportation to other disney areas as well as parking would be, but there could be a boat directly to the MK from the resort. The resort could also have a marina to rent boats and other water sports like the other MK resorts.

access only by boat and calling it oasis reminds me of fantasy island. =o) just as long as tatoo isn't there to greet ya...i'm for this resort! :goodvibes
