NEW Rejected Offers Thread

Earlier this year we bought 50 at BWV for $140/pt. It had full 2024 points coming in 2025, so double points to start, and all points available in future use years.

We had seen people post about smaller contracts selling for as low as $114 per point. We ultimately decided the difference in price ($1,300) was, in our opinion, made up for the fact that we got double points the first year (including 2024 points we didn't have to pay dues on). And we didn't want to sit around and wait or go back and forth. We made a full asking offer, and it was accepted right away. We had been watching for a few months, and seen a lot of "stripped" contracts, for around the same asking price. (Yes, I know it does not mean they sell for that) We decided to jump at this one, the prospect of double points the first year was enticing.

As the contract values get larger, I am sure the price per point makes a much bigger difference. But we are guilty of helping to keep small contract prices elevated I guess, haha.
This same logic is why I bought a very small direct contract recently at the VGF....

Resort: BWV
Contract Size: 75
Asking: $124
Rejected Offer: $106

No counter. I’m hoping they come to their senses. That’s rental rate price.
It’s so hard. I hadn’t seen one that fit my criteria in quite a while… but for now I’m holding!
I wasn’t able to hold out very long. 8-)

Once I realized there was 16 years of points (1200, instead of 1175), I made a new offer.

Resort: BWV
Contract Size: 75
Asking: $124
Rejected Offer: $112

Seller pulled the contract off the market. lol

Depending on how/when you use your points at BW, it is entirely possible that $140/pt with a year of free points is actually a better deal than $115 without the prior year’s points and it is almost always a better deal than missing current year points, no matter how inefficiently you use them! For example, assuming it’s early in the 2025 UY, I’d pay $140 for a BWV contract with 2024 and 2025 points before I’d pay even $100 for a contact without 2024 or 2025 points. Under $90 is about where that would be a harder choice for me.

I’m going to be honest…. IMO $125 for 75 points is a very fair deal unless it stripped….
Yes, I think so too ($124) & if they held out a little longer I'm sure they would have got it, I only made a new offer, because I had done the math based on 15 years of points (1125), not 16 years (1200), so I upped it by a few bucks. (and yes it had 2026 points coming). Honestly i was thinking if i offered $112, they would counter at $120-ish & we'd meet somewhere in the middle, but then the reality is that the difference is literally only a few hundred bucks, so I probably should have just offered $120 & been done. :-)

No biggie, I don't need any more points for quite a while, & I'm thinking there will be at least a handful after the 1st of the year.

May the odds be in your favor.

I can sympathize. I used to agonize over our vacation budget, and spent oodles of time scouring the internet trying to "maximize" everything. Even after securing a hotel reservation, I would still look, and occasionally rebook to save $15 on the rate, or this one included airport shuttle, or this one had free breakfast, etc. etc. Re-price and rebook rental cars over and over to save $20.

At some point in time, I realized I would much rather spend my own time doing something else. It wasn't worth the hours and hours I was pouring into this to save $200 by the end of it. I do know some people find joy in doing that, and I did at one point in time. But things change, circumstances change, etc. I now just find a price we are comfortable with, and book the things we want. I have peace with the fixed price and don't "waste my time" re-shopping it.

That is why we made a full-price offer and were done with it. We could make the math work. And on a small contract, the $1,000 or whatever (most likely less...), we could've saved just wasn't worth the headache over the life of the contract. We wanted that price point at that resort, and didn't mind the use year. We just wanted the contract, and wanted to start planning our next trip with our family. One of the best things for our family is having that trip on the calendar to look forward to, and having control of the reservation (why renting wasn't going to keep working for us).

The difference of $5 per point, on a 75 point contract is $375. Is it worth saving that? Or would you rather just have the contract? Over 16 years, it is $23.44 per year. (Assuming you are not financing) Everyone has their own thresholds for things, circumstances, etc. and those are questions we must answer for ourselves. Personally, I just gave up on trying to make sure I got the "best deal" all the time.

This is exactly how I am. I would get sucked into a black hole of maximization. I would rebook, compare cash vs points redemptions endlessly
... I won't lie I still do it but I'm now more practical given I have a kid and less time. That being said I do kind of enjoy the hunt.

Yea it was mostly just part of the chase, I don’t need the points right now and I always try to barter, but if I don’t have many options in the spring time I will have to just bite the bullet and pay what I have to. Could end up being more. lol
