New refillable mug policy at All Star Sports

I would like to see the ability to refill regular cups, then I wouldn't need to lug around those mugs all day. (It would actually make the refillable mugs more appealing to me)

Like others, I have NO issue with them implementing this. However, I am still in camp "need to see it to believe it" or camp "wait until we get widespread reports from those staying at Disney this week"

Well then it's about TIME this stupid rumor came true!

9 years later :rotfl2:

(Forgive me for needing to see it to believe it, I've been reading it once a year for about forever...I was a bit skeptical)

I see... thanks. Like I said it really does not matter to me.. I have never reused a mug... (even though when I first bought one many moons ago I don't remember a stated limit... but who would expect free soda for life for just buying one mug ??:rotfl2:) (( I know some do and I am NOT trying to start one of those discussions!!))

But since we have had to go in July for the past 2 times we went, getting free water from the fountain is a plus!!

Getting free water is a plus?? I don't recall paying for a glass of water?

Let's say this test program at the All Star Sports is eventually used at the other Quick Service locations among the other resorts, I doubt it will be used at the Boardwalk. The reason is when you want a refill at the Boardwalk Bakery, Boardwalk Pizza Window, Boardwalk Joes or Seashore Sweets, you need to show the Cast Member your mug and they give you a drink of your choice in a paper cup, since those Cast Members can't actually refill the mugs.

If Disney really wanted to they could easily put drink machines somewhere in the resort and eliminate the need to have to go to a CM to have it filled. Actually, it would be nice if they did this at resorts like BC where you can't refill your mug after the Marketplace closes.

This just sounds crazy. They are going to limit how much comes out of the machine, and how often you can fill it too? So if you want to mix coffee and hot chocolate (like I do), you can't? What if a child spills? Or you cant sit down and eat, and then refill before you leave? Sounds like they are spending a lot of money on this technology- why not just change designs more often? If they stuck to changing every year, MOST are not going to return within a year. I have no problem with the code that makes it good for only your dates, would stop the reselling on ebay, etc. But monitoring when and how much I drink is another thing.

Well at a food court.. there is either bottled water or you get it from the fountain... and if you need to buy a special cup with a chip in it ..no free water..

and yes in july and august being able to go to a food court or counter service restaurant and get a free cup of ice water is a plus :thumbsup2

Or they could give the CMs scanning devices. It could still be possible.

We've only used the mugs once, and I don't know if we'll buy them in the future. We just don't spend THAT much time at the counter service place in our resort, and prefer to drink water anyways. I think we did get our "money's worth" but that was after making a point to refill the mugs more than we would have otherwise, so it's one of those questionable situations.

We bought them on a couple of trips... but they were resort specific then ..so it was also a souvenir ! We don't spend much time at the resort either...

(and we are drinking water more often also) :thumbsup2

Like others, we don't use our mugs enough to make them worthwhile beyond being a souvenir, but having the chip or not won't affect our use of the mugs.

It will be interesting to see how this all tests out and how quickly they utilize this technology in other resorts. Wise of them to start and test in such a busy resort!

I don't think you'll have to pay for water.

The original article said the machine would still dispense ice and water, no need for a special cup, so I don't think we need to be discussing free or not free water any more...

I was simply responding to Tomader.... and explaining why I said free water was a plus.. since they questioned me.
I do know that water will still be free... ;) :)
:thumbsup2 This is a discussion board ...right???:upsidedow

This is the only thing that bothered me- we've all had those times when we come back and are really thirsty, those cups are fairly small, you could drain one quickly. So then how long do you have to wait to get your next refill, 5 minutes?

The system at the Boardwalk is ridiculous, barely worth getting the mugs. I'm not sure why they can't have a drink station somewhere where people can get their own drinks, maybe this technology will make it easier for them to set up more drink areas in those instances.

The boardwalk system was more annoying in that you had to carry your mug around in order to get a different cup with the drink in it. I always felt they should come with a card or something easier to carry in order to get your refills.

I think it's an excellent idea. It will help keep the cost of everything else from going up if people are using the program within the guidelines. :thumbsup2 It shouldn't bother anyone that's not doing anything wrong.....

:thumbsup2 I think its fabulous!!! Now if only they would start to change the mug designs up every year

A lot of questions can be answered at Validfills FAQ, like the one below.

Can a guest do a suicide pour, mixed drink pour?
The system allows the guest to mix multiple flavours for each fill. The system monitors the number of ounces dispensed from each flavour and allows the guest to continue to pour until the total ounces allowed is dispensed.

ETA: Validfill is partnered with Whirley Drink Works, the company that makes the current mugs, so I'm sure Whirley will continue to make the mugs.

a mixed drink pour is called a suicide pour?? I never heard of that!

I wonder if disney is ever going to get those new machines that are made for mixing sodas?? I have yet to see one!
