new rate system for 2008 and 2bdrm. rate for Jan/Feb -- insane!

My wife and I almost encountered the same problem; coming up short on points and having to pay for extra nights. Instead we opened a bottle of wine, sat back and gave our DVC membership a lot of thought. We relized that no matter what we do we are still going to Disney, and now that we are taking relatives as well as friends every trip now, we see that we will continue to come up short on points. So we called our Vacation Club Guide and are buying more points. In the long run it is the least expensive way to go. And as for extra points that are banked and may never get used, they make a great gift to family and friends who want to use them (rather than loose them).

Whew! I was starting to think I was the only one that thought the DVC units were pricey! I just about had heart failure when the CM told me that the cash rate for Feb. 1 was $1105! If I look at this year's pricing, that's actually what it was for a holiday rate and the season it should have fallen into was $595. I could have stomached the $595, although it's still outrageous, to have not had to move (DH can't stand to move during the trip), but $1100 and DH will have to get used to the idea!

If you belong to Interval - or have a friend that has a timeshare week that maybe they are not using....try to trade in. My sister who is a DVC member used her other Timeshare to trade into DVC for Feb. She said they were able to confirm with her right away on the phone......:thumbsup2

Aha! The true reason for high DVC cash rates is revealed: to drive the demand for add-ons. Now, where is my guide's telephone number? :thumbsup2

IMHO that was the main reason to purchase DVC. So complaining about the rates Disney charges seems strange. They sell it as "prepaid" vacations. What the OP has discovered is the VALUE of her prepaid vacation.

Disneys room rates for what they consider "deluxe" accomodations have reached the "absurb" stage. If I am going to pay that much for a room I want TRUE Deluxe service not a 'theme' of deluxe. I have stayed at "true Deluxe" NONE of Disney's Deluxe measured up...

So true! After you've stayed for awhile at either a Four Seasons or Ritz-Carlton (Four Seasons is my favorite, hands down), you're able to gain that perspective. You just gotta love being asked at every corner, "Can I do anything for you, Sir?" "Is there anything you need, Sir?" Of course, having the client pay for this experience is priceless...
