I am here May 1st and just had the afternoon tea at GF Garden View Lounge. It was wonderful as always with a new menu offering as of Friday 4/29.
The Princess Kate Tea-
"A Spring tea served with a classic dish of potted shrimp followed by a medley of cheeses, an array of seasonal fruits, and cheddar cheese biscuits. A scone, jam tart, and a selection of delicate pastries is accompanied with a glass Veuve Clicquot champagne and your choice of tea. 38.00 per guest"

We did not get it but the table next to us did. They seemed delighted with it and I saw the fruits were cantaloupe, honeydew, strawberry, purple grapes. One of the cheeses had green veining and the woman commented it was mild.
Our server said it came out the day of the wedding.

The menu does not list all the teas it used to but they had the Mad Hatter which was not listed. They also now decant the tea. No tea strainers are supplied, they have already strained the tea so no leaves in your cup and the tea strength stays consistent through your meal according to our server.:)

Thanks for the update. I am going to the tea on May 20th with another diser.

Just wondering what you did have and how was it?

She's too tall and elegant to be represented by potted shrimp.

What is "potted shrimp"? DD and I love to go to tea at the garden view. This sounds wonderful.

That's a cute idea but I am also wondewring what is potted shrimp lol.

I agree!

But that does sound like an offering my husband would be interested in so I may be able to finally visit the tea room again.

According to Wikipedia . . .

Potted shrimps are a traditional Lancastrian dish made with brown shrimp flavoured with mace. The dish consists of brown shrimp in mace-flavoured butter, which has set in a small pot. Cayenne pepper and nutmeg may also be included. It is traditionally eaten with bread. The butter acts as a preservative.

Potted shrimp was a favourite dish of Ian Fleming who passed on his predeliction for the delicacy to his famous fictional creation James Bond. Fleming reputedly used to eat the dish at Scotts Restaurant on Mount Street in London where it is still served to this day.

We are going to the tea for the first time in November (I get to book tomorrow, woohoo) and I too think my DH (who is English) would like this offering . . . but he may make me do the ordering since he might be embarrassed to order the "The Princess Kate Tea" for himself. :rotfl:

Thanks! I have a reservation for tea on 5/24 and I'm very much looking foreward to it. I love cheddar biscuits - and champagne is really the only alchohol I like. Yum !

Thanks for the 411! We will be there next week with ADRs for 2pm.. I think we will have to try this. I thought I was all set with my choice, but Potted Shrimp does sound like something I should try once in my life. LOL and PP about Kate being tall, etc. That was great!! LOL

DH and I usually get the Buckingham tea (tea, sandwiches, onion tart, scone, jam tart and choice of pastries or strawberries and cream). We are here for our 31st anniversary so we got the Grand Tea which adds in a glass of sparkling wine and a choice of English trifle added to the pastry/ strawberry option. LOVED the trifle! The sandwiches along with the lovely sweet onion tart also gave us duck pate which was not listed for the Grand Tea; it was very good with a smokey taste.
The sandwich halves were cucumber/watercress,egg salad, shrimp salad, curry chicken salad and pear/gorgonzola on various breads. Next time I swear I am going to ask to substitute the curry chicken one for another or those great little onion tarts!:thumbsup2

The couple next to us got the Princess Kate and a Grand Tea and shared their bounty- wish we had thought of that! They did get different wines (sparkling and champagne) and the wife seemed delighted with the potted shrimp she had put on a bread round or cracker. They and we took photos of the menu change and I wondered if they were Disser Food Porn peeps until they mentioned their kids wanted them to take pictures.:)

1) Whew!
2) For a miinute, I thought potted shrimp was surrounded by Miracle Grow.

Sounds wonderful, except for the name.

*** warning: rant ahead ***

She is NOT a princess (yet), dagnabit! She is the Duchess of Cambridge. She married Prince William, but his father is the Prince of Wales, not William. If/when William becomes Prince of Wales she may or may not take the title of princess. If/when William becomes King she may or may not (probably will) be Queen. But not right this minute.

*** rant over - thanks - needed to get that out of my system! ***

Do you feel better now?

Yes. Was driving most of the day Friday so kept listening to different radio stations in the car and go SO tired of hearing them call her Princess Kate. I'm sure she would/will make a wonderful Princess. But as all good Dis-ers know, the title of Princess is an important one and not to be mis-used! :goodvibes

Thanks for clarifying that bit on Kate being a Duchess, not a Princess. I was about to do it myself, but you beat me to it. :thumbsup2

Duchess Kate Tea won't market as well at Disney. The only Disney duchess I can think of is a cat.

Thanks for the info on the new offerings at the GF Afternoon Tea. Both of my girls and I are going to the Tea for mother's day and I may have to check this out :goodvibes. We can't wait, it is one of many things we like to do that is not in the parks.

Thanks for posting, doing the tea next week and was planning on getting the Grand Tea, perhaps I shall indulge in the "Non-Princess, but, Duchess Kate Tea" ;)
