KEWL News, maybe this has been posted, but here is what I just learned in talking to our guide.

As of Oct 1, MS will be open Saturdays from 1-5pm and Friday evenings till 9 PM.

Very nice of them I think.

sounds great to me - but am wondering what the wait time will be to talk to a cm! popcorn::

Very nice of us, actually, as expanded hours will be a cost borne by all DVC members. So here's a round of applause to us members! :thumbsup2

Still, it sounds like this will be a help to a lot of members and for that reason I think it's a good idea.

Sounds like good news. Sometimes it's so hard to make that call from work.

Though I am with Granny. I think my checkbook will need to find a bit more $$ for a likely MF increase :rotfl:

May not have to increase costs very much. If they are staffing for peak load, then having Saturday hours may relieve the pent up demand on Mondays and allow them to have less staff than if they weren't open on Saturdays.

Has MS cut back on any other hours, or have they just added hours?

For example, will MS still be open until 7 on Thursdays?

Thanks! :wizard:

Doctor P, you may be right. After I posted I thought about it and maybe the extended hours have been figured into the existing budget. Possibly in the way you stated.

We will just have to wait and see.

But even with a slight increase, I am all for the added hours. :thumbsup2

I am also curious about the 7pm closing time on Thursdays. Does anyone know if they are keeping that?

I guess this means that the DVC Planner by Caskbill will need some work to reflect the added open days. (Great program!) :thumbsup2

As a west coaster this is great! If I forget to call before work I'll still have Friday evening and Sat morning.

this is great news, now with over 100,000 members the cost shouldnt be that much

Thanks for sharing this information. It will make it a lot easier to call on a Saturday than wait on hold on a Monday morning. That can be so frustrating.

Thanks for the Awesome News Scott.
That makes things a lot easier for those of us that work the same hours that MS was open!

Will miss you on the SSMC06. I enjoyed our conversation the morning pulling into Castaway Cay on SSMC05.

After the new MS hrs start on OCT 1 I bet it won't be long before somone who couldn't get in on Sat will be complaining why MS isn't open on SUN. :rotfl2:

You know this will happen. :teeth:

Not actually true. The money to fund MS comes from four sources: (a) a $1 per member reservation charge per year (the charge cannot change); (b) charges for exchanging out of DVC; (c) rentals made within 60 days out from a date, after putting back a percentage into the association fund to defer fees; and (d) the annual management fee, which is a set percentage of dues (12%) which percentage cannot change. Because the last one is a percentage, the actual amount DVC gets rises every year as dues rise and more members join. What is happenning is that DVC is expanding service as necessary to accomodate the demand caused by having so many more members and paying the extra cost because they have more income from that percentage management fee. You would pay the same in dues with the expansion of hours or without it. So though it is a cost you pay for in dues, DVC's adding extra MS services do not cost you anymore than what you would pay if they did not expand services.

This is terrific news. It is so darn hard trying to call from work.

Wow, that is quite an explanation. Thanks for the detail....how the heck did you find out something that specific? And don't tell me that's in our POS too! :teeth:

Thanks for clarifying (correcting) my statement. I agree that it's something that will benefit a lot of members. :)
