I've been reading these boards for a while, but this is my first post. I finally took the plunge (after debating for a year), so I am officially a new DVC member.
My question, try as I might (and I'm the type of person to make it happen), I can't get each year's points to equal the exact number of points I have (I get pretty close though). So what do I do with those few extra points? Borrow from next year and go an extra day? Bank and stay longer next year? Will I always be chasing a handful of points from year to year?
I'd love suggestions.
Thanks!

I'd say it's almost impossible to get your used points to equal your allotted points each year. So if you don't mind borrowing a few, go ahead and stay an extra day! Or maybe banking a few will get you an extra day next time. It seems to be a personal preference type of thing! There's always the possibility that someone may need to rent only a few points, so that may also take care of some of the "extra".

You will be borrowing or banking unless you change when you go or the size of the unit so that a different number of points is needed.

We hardly ever have the exact amount.

Or you could buy more points, LOL.

Just bank the few extra points each year, they will add up. Remember the few points you bank this year will be the first ones used next year. The points those displaced plus the normal extras get banked again. Two become four, four become six, ect... At some point they will add up to an extra day, or a weekend studio to get away from it all, or even to upgrade from your normal accommodations to invite friends or family. You can keep banking over and over until theoretically you have double points one year without borrowing a single point.

You could always rent any unused points and transfer them to another owner. That way you end up with 0 each year. I'd prefer to bank them myself however. Don't consider it "chasing a few points" just consider it part of the process.

BTW Welcome to the Dis Boards.

As others have stated, you just bank the extra points, or borrow a few to add a day.... ANd may I suggest downloading Caskbill's DVC Planner It is a wonderful program designed for us complusive DVCers!

And..............Welcome to the DIS!

If you have the ability to go an extra day, I would borrow the few points needed to do so. You never know what life will bring, so I believe of making the most of the current and not wondering about the future.

I used to worry about borrowing a few points every year, but I don't anymore. Figured out how long it would before I had to skip a year to "catch up" and it was so far in the future (in my case 16 -30 years depending on whether I borrowed 8 or 16) that it didn't seem worth worrying about!

Best wishes -
