Any & All, guidance here would be appreciated! We signed today for Copper Creek points, got access to the website and our points are sitting there available.

Then, just for fun & to get used to the tools, I go to mock up a trip using the 11 month home resort window. I go out to the furthest possible day to start a booking, so no one could have booked yesterday, and already can't get a reservation. It's not even peak spring break season, if I can't get a reservation even 11 months out for by far not the most popular time of the year, did I make a mistake buying in???

Please tell me that this is a fluke, and that more often then not I can at least book my home resort. Just not sure I see the point if I can't even do that.

Am I crazy?

All units BUT studios are available. Studios especially at CCV go very fast. When did you look? They were most likely gone by 8:01 eastern time today. Welcome Home.
Thanks Bill, I just checked this evening after completing the documents. Regardless, it seems crazy that you have to login at 8:00 exactly to get a room 11 months out. As I look, it appears it may be another issue that I've seen come up in my research on other forums. I can book March 10-12 & 14-18th, but March 13th isn't available! Doesn't seem possible, and from what I've just started to find out, may be a big issue.

CCV is notorious for its problem with studio availability. What you're witnessing is often seen when reservations are being walked. CCV's studio problem is so bad that members will often walk a reservation forward until they reach their desired nights. Given that Spring Break is at its zenith, it's not surprising that studios are being walked for 2022.

When do spring breaks begin normally? Easter is mid April next year... Is this the time of year for WDW Marathons? Any other type of sporting events for March 2022?

Walking for around Easter?

It’s April 17, 2022

And March is already extra demand.

Spring Break in Texas 2022: March 14-18. Most other states follow a similar schedule or +/- one week.

Looks like you just got 'lucky' and tried to setup your mock trip for Spring Break next year.

CCV is an 11 month booking at 8 am year round now for studios. There just are not enough for all that want them.

If that is what you bought to get, then it’s going to be very tough.

Owners there will book right at 11 months even if they want to trade at 7 months just to ensure they something in case what they want isn’t there.

So, the the plan is studios and you can’t or don’t want to book right at 8:00 am every trip, this resort may not be the best choice.

As to what you will be facing with CCV, be aware that DVC's high to extremely high demand time of the year at WDW is actually late Sep to marathon weekend in Jan (the "fall season'). From mid-Jan to late Sep is the low to moderate demand season. The demand you get during that moderate time is nothing like the fall season, e.g., demand for first two weeks of December makes Easter look like the slowest of off-seasons. In other words, what you are seeing now for March 2022 is really tame in relation to what you will see 11-months out for December time.

The CCV problem is actually year round. There are not anywhere near enough studios to meet demand. Throughout the fall season, those fill within nanoseconds after 8 a.m. at 11-months out or even before. During the rest of the year, that happens about 65% of the time. Certain classes of other studios have a similar issue: BWV standard view studios (throughout the fall season and about 70% of the rest of the year), BWV boardwalk view studios (throughout the fall season but seldom the rest of the year), AKV value and club level studios (almost every day of the year), BLT standard view studios (throughout the fall season and 40% of the rest of the year), VGF studios (at times during the fall season). It is rare for other studios at WDW (e.g., you might see it happen first week of Dec -- the highest demand week of the year -- for BCV, BRV or BLT theme park view studios, but usually not)

You should also be aware that you have up until 10 days after signing the sales contract or receiving all required documents, whichever occurs later, to cancel your sale and get a full refund. That is probably something to seriously consider if you bought with the intent to usually get a CCV studio. To be valid, any such cancellation needs to be done in writing, e.g., send both an email and a letter.

Spring break runs from right after Presidents Day through Easter. Many districts do not link break to Easter but have a more stable set of dates - for instance, my district is a trimester system and break is always between tri 2 and 3, Easter is not a factor.

Mid-March is a big break season for the Midwest.

FWIW, I just looked at CCV studios. I wonder if people are walking for future dates - maybe the Easter weeks (4/9 - 4/24).. 3/13 & 3/14 are booked, but the previous March date are all available except for 3/7.

If people are walking, the 3/13 & 3/14 should show as available as soon as those folks "walk on by".

Of course, that doesn't change the fact that there are way too many Members competing for studios than the supply can support, but perhaps the situation is not quite as dire as some believe..

As much as I love CCV, I wouldn't buy there just because of the studio issues. Unless the OP goes the same week every year and can do a fixed week, I would seriously consider cancelling the contract. Until DVC does something about walking....the studio problem here will not get better but only worse.

@KeyLargoCards,
Welcome to DVC and this online community. Timeshare is a tricky beast. It plays favorably with those who are willing to learn the nuances of the game ... but bites those who expect it to act like hotels. We've owned timeshare for 20+ years and DVC since 2004. A few tips:

a) Understand that part of the joy of timeshare is the 'thrill of the hunt.'
You need nerves of steel, a bit of adrenaline, stamina, determination and more to score your perfect reservation. Then you rejoice! For me, there is likely more rejoicing in booking the reservation than actually checking in!

b) Be super flexible. Consider all available unit sizes, locations and dates.
Hotel thinking: When do I wish to travel? Where do I wish to stay? What unit type would I like?
Timeshare thinking: What is out there? Can I make the available unit/date/location work for me? Should I snag that available unit now and then work plans around that reservation? (Yes, you should. Grab it when you can ... and cancel what you can't use.)
Seriously: Do not get hung up on 'studios.' Be open to 1BR units.

c) Use the waitlist.
Over time, many reservations get changed; inventory becomes available now and again. Use the waitlist to snag available days as you need.

d) Learn to STALK the inventory.
This goes back to "thrill of the hunt." Develop a pattern of logging into the DVC website often, at different times of day, to check for available nights. Book your stay night by night, if needed. Stalking + Waitlist work well together. Do both!

Again, welcome and Good Luck!

I would not purchase there for that exact reason. Stalking and walking 11 months out for studios is insane and would not work for us. You have 10 days to cancel the transaction by Florida law. If you’re not completely sold on CCV I would consider a different home resort.

Or change yourself to fit the patterns that make it easiest for you. There isn't any thrill in the hunt for me. So we always use DVC in times when it isn't busy - we book at eleven months out when booking home. We book one and two bedrooms, which are easier to book. We never plan on getting a BWV standard view (BWV is our home resort) and don't travel over Food and Wine.

The marketing decision to allow smaller initial point contracts puts pressure on studios....that's all folks have the points for.
Every member has choices:
  • Buy more points
  • Bank/borrow for a trip every-other-year or, with added risk, every 3rd year
  • Rent points via transfer from other owners
  • Purchase One-Time-Use Points to help fill a gap
  • Rent points out and pay cash
  • Choose a different resort location, unit type or time of year
  • Stalk + Waitlist to cobble together the reservation in the unit of choice
  • ??? I'm sure there are more ways to work this!
  • Do nothing, lose points and mope. (sarcasm)
;-)
