New MB order but what about old ones?

I just got a notification about ordering MBs for an upcoming trip. We have the MBs from last trip that we linked to our 10 day non-exp tickets. We also bought the annual pass when it was discounted earlier this year.

Should we order the new ones or just use the old ones?

Also, how do we tell the system to use our annual passes vs the 10 day tickets?

Thanks!

Nothing is actually stored on the MagicBands except for a unique id number. MagicBands, along with room reservations, park admission, FP+ selections, etc. are all linked to MDE Profiles. The MagicBand is just a key to reading the data stored on your MDE Profile. You can use all active MagicBands that are assigned to you interchangeably.

As for your AP & 10-Day MYW Tickets, you need to stop at a Guest Relations location and have them prioritize them in the order you want them used for park entry.

Our strategy has been to order MB's in different colors with each order - then we have a rainbow to pick from! And, oh yeah, erionm said about using different MBs.

We have about 40 old MB's in every color. This year we are hanging them on our Christmas tree as ornaments! :thumbsup2

Ha pretty funny! Do you have to get new bands every time? We have tickets left on our MB. Is it more trouble to keep your old bands rather than get new ones?

You get new bands with every stay. We had a split stay last time so two sets of bands, then upgraded to APs and received AP bands (after customizing them online) when we got home.

Some people seem to be really up in arms that it's so wasteful or ecologically unfriendly, but it really doesn't bother me. Whatever Disney wants to do - doesn't really bother me.

They're all interchangeable.

And you don't have tickets left "on your magic band". You have tickets in your MDE account. Any magic band you have connected to MDE reads the account.

Got it. Can you re-use a MB with another set of tickets? I'll be at SOG in January. So no MB's. Was wondering then can I use my old band and link it to a different set of tickets under a different MDE account? Would save me from buying them once we're down there.

You can use your band repeatedly with new tickets that are linked to your profile on MDE. And you can link unlimited new tickets to your MDE profile. As I understand the system, your band will function passively for the rest of your life and longer. Only the "active RFID" component that does things like linking to ride photos dies in 2-3 years. The passive RFID that you use to tap is probably good forever, or until Disney changes systems.

If it is indeed a different MDE account that has those tickets associated, bands linked to your MDE account cannot be transferred to a different one.

Once bands are linked to a given account, they are dedicated there for the life of the band. Technologically it would be easy for Disney to swap them between accounts. My guess is that it was set up this way to avoid a secondary eBay market for used bands eliminating Disney's capability to sell them at $12 a pop to the people not staying on site.

What is the AP MB?

This is a separate set of MB that are mailed to all AP holders. Disney decided to give these away to the AP folks for free after receiving complaints from AP holders who live locally, and don't have a resort stay to qualify for a free set otherwise.

The bands themselves are indistinguishable from any other bands. But indeed, they do include little plastic thingies in the box that slip on the band and say "AP holder 2014."

They also come with little cards to use for AP discounts and parking.

Disney said from the beginning that Passholders, Resort Guests and those that purchase select PhotoPass packages would receive a MagicBand. So far, only the PhotoPass package purchasers are not receiving them.

Quite true. But resort guests were using them for a full year before AP locals got the option to customize their own non-stay-based bands. There were a lot of angry threads about the issue on the theme parks boards last year...I'm sure Disney got an earful.
