New Magic Kingdom Welcome Show & Main Street Opening UPDATE: Page 15 - Post #281

Watching the video, it's just not the same as the previous show. All that talking, no catchy song, there is no "excitement" in that show at all. The characters might be great for first time visitors but it lacks the emotion the past show brought.
Yep - Agree. I think I understand the reasons they are doing this - but the atmosphere and excitement of the previous show at the actual entrance to MK was brilliant, and much better than this one And the way they included the train was proper jaw dropping. And you really felt as if the characters were arriving at and 'opening' the park. The soundtrack of that show was much better too.

I feel like a bit of my childhood has been removed. End of an era I guess, and I am a bit sad about that - but things have to move on I suppose, and in this day and age this is hopefully safer and more secure for arriving visitors, so onwards and upwards I suppose.... But will def miss that old show at the MK entrance.

Well there will be some sort of taping on Thursday, not sure what that's abut but they posted they want all vehicles off of MS by 6:30am, I doubt it will impact the 8am opening though...unless that's what they are recording...I'll try and get there as early as possible

is it because of Pro Bowl? I don't follow sports, have they always done that here? They are expecting a buttload of people
First time it's ever been on Orlando.
It's been horribly attended in the past, even the players find ways out of it. The game is awful
We are coming down that weekend, are huge football fans but won't be going to the game. It's that bad. It's just a good weekend for us to get away. We'll catch the parade but that is it
If it's well attended being moved to Disney then it will be true Disney magic

I just watched the video...you guys are all nuts!!! :rotfl:

I though it was great! Maybe better than the old one (just watched it, the train was cute...), which quite honestly I didn't care for one way or the other. This just fits better. Strolling on Main Street, looking in shops and waiting to enter the "kingdom". Then everyone comes to greet you? Loved it! Will make it a point to watch this (once, and then I won't care).

I mean, it's not Broadway, they are just opening the park...

Wow, this looks totally underwhelming. Just the latest in the long line of things either discontinued or ruined by Disney in the last couple of years in the name of "progress" (translation: $$$).

I haven't had time to read the entire thread so this may be redundant...................

I watched the DIS's Facebook Live of the new Welcome Show..............unimpressed...disappointed.........sad

No need in my mind to get up early to "mass" in front of the castle for a dull, uninspired............show like any other Castle show.......but less than any other Castle show. o_O

Where was the Mayor of Main Street USA? Where was Smokey Miller? Where were the dancers? Just so disappointing. :rolleyes2

My hope is this is temporary...........and when the refurb is done at the train station we return to what was one of the cool...........little extras at the MK.

Doug :goofy:

I'm also curious about how EMH will work. If park opens at 9:00 and EMH starts at 8:00, what happens if I get there at 8:30, how do I make my way through the crowds on Main Street in order to attend the EMH? I wonder if there will be some sort of path way they will leave open for onsite guests to go through in order to do EMH.
Yup that was my question as well that I menioned earlier on. Just want to know what the procedures are for future plans.

It's not just any park opening, it's the Magic Kingdompixiedust:and train has left the station...sigh.:sad1:

Like I said, I don't remember being so close you couldn't see the opening. However, I'll take your word for it. I know being back 5 feet you could see it no problem, however in the new configuration if you're waiting for Mine Train rope drop you will not see it, even if you stood back 5 feet. I realize it's not that big of deal, but you'll need to compromise front of line or park open show if you are going to a major headliner on a busy day. If you're doing Pirates at opening, then go watch the show and walk slowly to PotC after it. Not a problem.

It may be just that you never waited close to the rope during the previous welcome show. The awful sight lines took away a lot of the view, and the giant metal awnings eliminated it completely if you were at the front.
