New JTA age restriction

The JTA redo (Trials of the Temple?) - is the minimum age still a recommendation or is it mandatory? If my child is almost 4, will that cut it if directions are not an issue and the desire is there? Also, what if a child looks way younger than they are due to a special situation? How would you handle that to be sure no CM calls the child out for being too young due to size (and devastates the child)?

If you are concerned about a child being rejected due to age, bring a copy of their birth certificate. But, like 3 year old children requiring tickets, Disney generally will just ask the child how old he is and rely on the honesty of the parent.

They aren't lenient at all in other situations like the age limits on tours, or height restrictions where there are safety and liability issues.

We were asked how old our daughter was. She is also VERY small for her age, and they took us at our word.

When we did it in 2012 my 6 year old did it. His 3 year 7 month old big for his age brother desperately wanted to do it to and they wouldn't let him.

The age restriction isn't new. It's been in place for years, and 4 is the minimum. If they are not 4 they are not eligible to participate, unless you are willing to lie and have your child participate in that lie.

I don't think it has been an age suggestion but has always been a requirement, the child is either are 4 or are not.

I'll just say right now that if my child is close to 4, and her older sibling gets to do something like JTA, and she desperately wanted to but was left out over a couple of months, I'd full on lie about her age so she could participate. I'm not gonna lie about my lying. ;-)

When my son did JTA in December (just shy of is 13th birthday) we could not have lied because his birthdate and age was noted on his AP.

We are going to luck out because my 3 year old will turn 4 on the day we are going to Hollywood Studios so he will hopefully get to do it and he will be of legal Disney age.

This. They also asked our kids how old they are.

I honestly can't remember, do they scan MBs at all for this? Wouldn't their ages be somehow linked to the MBs, or no?

I don't think they take the age on MDE because those dates are often wrong. I've had to manually go in and change their ages because it doesn't automatically do it.

Also, remember that they ask the child questions. They want to make sure the child 1) won't freak out, 2) not run away, and 3) be able to follow the directions (there are multiple), so, they'll have a chance to gauge how well he/she will do. If they are not quite 4, they may have difficulty with all of that.

Cool. Then they'll add some arbitrary restriction or age verification process to the rest of us.

We haven't done JTA as when my son was old enough this last trip of course it was closed. However when my DD did BBB right after turning 3 she was asked up front how old she was by two different FGIT before they started. Then at Pirates League when my son even was 4 he was asked his age too.
If it's that big of deal wait a couple weeks or months until they are age or like the pp said Disney will eventually make changes.

Jedi Training is set to debut in Disneyland Paris soon. Age range: 7-12. The show will include R2D2 so maybe that's why it's restricted to older kids. But still, if the shows in DLP run more efficiently with older kids, it could migrate to other parks.

I can see it now. Little 4 year-olds being "trained" to say they are 7.

Exactly. There was something we wanted to do there, I forget. It was something where our DS could do it, but DD could not due to age. Now, yes, I could have chosen to lie about her age, but that's not exactly the lessons I feel like teaching my child - that it's okay to lie to get something you want. Age is pretty black and white - you either are, or you aren't.
