I am returning from Disney on Sept 4th heading to Long Island. It will be the Sunday of Labor Day weekend. I plan on entering New Jersey some where Between 5:00 and 7:00 pm taking the turnpike.

Do you think that there will be alot of traffic at this time? I know that on Sundays there is tons of beach traffic in New Jersey heading north. I'm thinking most people will be staying at the beach areas Sunday night due to the holiday Monday.

Do you have any experience's with the turnpike on this day? I think, and hope, Monday night will be the big traffic day here.

I think your guess is correct. Most of the traffic should be on Monday. That's how it was 4th of July weekend. The roads near me that are normally packed on Sunday night were empty.

I'm not sure what route you plan on taking, but to LI I'd take the NJ Tpk to Exit 10 then the Outerbridge to the Verrazano to the Belt Pkwy. IF there is traffic, you shouldn't hit it until Exit 7 on the Tpk.

I was just on the NJ turpike this past Sunday between 3:00 and 4:00 heading to a baseball tournament. Just before exit 7 it really slowed down and was stop and go for about fifteen miles until our exit (8) and beyond our exit. On the way back around 7:00 we noticed the traffic headed towards NY was still just as heavy. I would think it would be a little better on a three day weekend since some will go home Sunday and some Monday. Hopefully you won't have stop and go like we did but I would expect traffic to be heavy. Good luck! :earsboy:
