New Idea and How to Convince DH!?!

LOL, you are all too funny!

Yes, I have tried justifying that $1,000 difference would be cheaper than an entirely new cruise, but his position stands with, "We are good with the 5-night". Ugh!!!!!!! :yo-yo: #1stworldproblems HAHAHA
Happy wife, happy life, husband.

What dates are you looking at, exactly? I have the 12/9/17 Fantasy booked, but also considering the 4 night Dream. I decided against the 5 night Magic. Even though the Magic is our favorite ship we did a 7 night on her this past December and the 5 night Dec 2015, so I wanted to try something new and the Fantasy itinerary looked better.

BTW, the 5 night was shortest DCL cruise we have done and it went by FAST!

I'm no help. I was thinking about doing a short little cruise and nervous about the cost. DH was like kid(4) will only be little for a short bit of time and we will regret it in 20 years when she is grown if we do not go on this cruise now...let's just do the WBPC cruise and knock something off our bucket list...

...but then he added a 3 day pre-vacation with my mother in law in Miami... :crazy2: ...so he's not perfect. Ha!

My entire full time salary is used for vacations and "life upgrades"...so the cost really was not an issue for us. He has like 6 months of paid vacation time saved and I work from home...it all worked out. Im just cheap!

I hope you are able to convince him YOLO and go for it. (Oh dear, did I just YOLO? I swear I am not a kid)

Ha, that's how I convinced mine. Look, we can do a week for X cost, or 2 weeks for 1.5x cost! And then we added on time before and after so the kids and I will actually be gone a full month :D

Just book your cruise and do it. It's both your money. Us guys don't always get the final say.

I was looking at the 11/10 WC from PC 7-night.

LOL! You mean all I had to say was "YOLO" and that would convince him? HAHAHA But, I agree with you. It makes sense to us, why not him?

I wonder what he would say??? Maybe I should test the waters first and bluff him and say I did it and see what he says?!?! :rolleyes1:scratchin

Yeah. Just say. I thought it was best and made the decision. Again, if he is the sole breadwinner in the house. That may make it difficult for you. If you commingle then it's both your decisions. Just my personal take.

Have you thought of saying what you'll give up to make up that extra money? Have you asked him if that $1000 was earmarked for something else? Have you said "once in a lifetime"? Have you mentioned labor from birthing children? Another way might be to get him to promise another cruise or a land resort visit to those places and start making plans.

The truth is this really depends on what your husband's triggers are. You've said he gets nervous spending large amounts of money on things/experiences. I'm like that too, but I balance what I want and what I'll do to save for that thing to make it more palatable. Sometimes a person just has to get used to the number they are spending, before committing to it.

So 2 extra days for the two of you? That's $250 each per day. Are those two stops worth that price to you? Is it a different ship and maybe there are other things he'd like more about the other ship? Could you get a better deal going at a slightly different time and therefore it'll cost less than $1000?

Personally, I'd probably focus on getting another cruise. Tell him you'll use this cruise to plan the excursions you'll take on the next one. Keep talking about what you'll do next time. Maybe he'll see that $1000 as worth spending now if he doesn't have to take a repeat cruise.

This is funny, because I went thru the same dilemma - and made spreadsheets. Was considering the Magic 5 day very merrytime out of miami 12/10 and the Fantasy 7 day very merrytime 12/2 out of PC. I showed the cost of gas, hotel and mileage (all more for us if we were to sail out of Miami), and still the other cruise was quite more expensive. So, I could not sell the 7 day purely on cost per day. (the difference in price was about $1200, just for your reference)

In the end, 2 things convinced my husband to go with the 7 day, were A. not having to drive to Miami - the hassle, the hotel, all of it. We can be in PC in 1.5 to 2 hours and no need for a hotel. B. my obsessing over planning and his worry that i was going to regret not doing the 7 day (this happened on our first cruise on the magic). There just wasn't enough time on the 5 day, i felt we missed stuff, and i immediately began planning a new cruise when we returned. So, he said, if you're gonna regret it, lets just do the 7 day so i don't have to hear about it. For me, it had to be Very Merrytime, as I haven't experienced it, and I'm a bit obsessed with Disney and Christmas. (we also are not doing Disney during December this year, as a compromise, and it was a selling a point to say that trip money would be applied to the cruise, and Christmas will be a lot cheaper as this cruise is basically the kids' gift).

I also work very hard on the money saving aspect of this, which goes a long way. Disney vacation account, gift cards, etc... I always lead with how much extra money i've managed to make or save, and then hit with the cost. Also, I have to agree with the poster who mentioned womanly wiles...that tends to help alot...

I get where he was coming from. I am a single mom and I want to take my son on a cruise. He is 8 and perfect age for all things Disney. I originally booked the 7 day and it was nearly $4k. The 4 day was about $2k. There was not a huge difference in either case (few hundred $$) to downgrade from a verandah to an inside room. I was very very uneasy about shelling out for the 7 day cruise... I have cruised before and I know that it's not just the extra cruise fare but the extra sea days which lead to extra expenditures in drinks and spa treatments and the extra port days with extra excursions. I just felt uneasy with where the costs were... so we are taking the 4 day. My PIF date is not until November (we are going Feb 2018) and I have it more than half paid off already. I am feeling comfortable with being able to pay for the cruise AND for any extras incurred on that cruise without feeling pinched. And yes if we take another cruise someday it will be more taking a 4 day plus another 4 day or a 5 day or a 7 day or whatever than just a 7 day initially but so be it. I am planning to add a few days at disney on to the beginning, which isn't that much for me because we own DVC.

I get wanting the longer cruise but feeling pinched about it is not relaxing for me.
