If it's bad enough I've actually had the CM at MK not allow us to walk around. So it doesn't surprise me that they don't want the CM walking guests to/from the pick up areas.
I must be missing something... this seems really extreme...

Based on radar, looks like an ugly thunderstorm just went right over top of WDW. I can understand why they wouldn't want people walking backstage in that, including their employees. That's a lot of liability.

Should be clear now though.

What? Do they stop all buses for lighting? What's special about Express? You have to walk to the bus, but aren't people walking around the parks? In line for the normal buses? Weird.
I thought it was a bit odd myself but the CM said they don't want people backstage where there are a lot of metal objects during lightning. Soooo we walked to the front of MK, tried to go get on the Monorail-it wasn't working-so we went to the ferry. While on the ferry, my Merrell athletic sandal broke! What a mess of a day!

Probably because there isn't a covered waiting area.

Does anyone know what time the last bus will leave for a park that is still open? For instance, if a bus is departing on the 10th and 40th minute of the hour, and the park closes at 9, will there be a 9:10 bus? 9:40? Or will 8:40 be the last bus?

I know the first post says one bus past closing time but just wanted to clarify I am interpreting corrected the answer to my question would be 9:10

1 bus past closing time is still correct. So in your example, 9:10. Not 9:40, that's 2 buses past closing time. and 8:40 is no buses past closing time, so that wouldn't be right either.

Thanks! That helps a lot. So I should have no problem using it to get to Animal Kingdom after Fantasmic this summer.

I assume that is still true for the bus that runs at the top of the hour? Another bus would depart 30 minutes after close?

As long as AK isn't in EMH, you are correct
As for the bus that runs at the top of the hour, that's trickier for sure. You'll just have to ask at the counter to be sure. I would guess yes but would confirm when I planned to use it

What do mean as long as AK isn't having EMH? The express will not go there during EMH?

I want to see if there are any opinions on utilizing the Express Bus for those who have a car and drive to the parks. What is your strategy typically as far as which park to leave the car at? My original thought was to have our first park also be our last park, so we end the day of hopping where our car is, but now having second thoughts.

Ex. If we want to utilize AM EMH at AK, but just for EMH and then hop elsewhere since the park is likely to be busier the remainder of the day, then would need to make the plan the extra trip back to AK at night which is what we were trying to avoid since nighttime entertainment/shows will likely be more crowded on those AM EMH days. This becomes more of an issue since express (even the one bus after closing) doesn't go to a destination park that isn't still open, which is usually the case give nighttime shows are typically at park closing. Less of an issue if it's PM EMH and we can just RD the PM EMH park, leave, then come back before the express service stops running for EMH, and have the car there.

Honestly, if we had a car at the park, we wouldn't use it. Unless we are just hopping to eat or something (like heading to Epcot for dinner in WS), and plan to return to the original resort. There really does not appear to be a good way to get back to your car if you aren't planning on being back at that park

Unless they force people inside park wide that makes no sense.

Wouldn't be the first rule that Disney has that doesn't make sense.
Still doesn't surprise me to learn they won't walk guests back to the pick up when there is active lightening.

Right, our rationale for using it despite having a car is the ease of park hopping without having to go through security and walking from the parking lots (since most parks drop you off well inside other than Epcot which is right by Spaceship Earth). Last year, park hopping was cumbersome having to go through security each time and move the car from park to park and then either taking the tram or walking quite a bit since by the afternoon, you would be parking further out. I guess we could plan around it and just park at our last park, maybe do a few things at RD, hop elsewhere, and then go back for the car before heading to our 'last' park if the plan is our first park won't be our last.

And because we are there for 8 days, the value extracted from the $29 becomes less of an issue, more so than the how to get back to our car :)

If you can arrange your days so that you are in the park where your car is located at the end of the night then it does become a no brainer to use. The service is great.
I may go so far to park at my 2nd park, hop on the park to park buses outside the park vs. driving to the first park and having to park back again.
Or, if you are on site, it may be a good trip to consider the buses and not driving at all, at least on hopping days

For Disney guest safety is number one, I was so tired Saturday that Disney made me stay another night, in fact they would not even let me drive my car to the hotel they drove me helped me check in made sue I got to my room and every thing, so them not wanting guest out in lighting would not be unheard of.

What time do the normal park to park buses outside the park start running? This may be something we would consider too, but wasn't sure if normal park to park don't run until later in the day since I can't imagine they would account for anyone who would go to a park then leave immediately?
