Hello, hello,
Does anyone know, does the Swan provide glass coffee cups in the rooms? I really don't like my coffee to have a plastic taste. Yes, I know, picky, picky...(and yes, I even bring my own coffee so I have the brand I prefer). I also have a problem with cold french fries but that is another issue for another place.

Yes. There are two ceramic mugs. They were frequently NOT cleaned by houskeeping or sometimes still rinsed. It seemed easier to me to simply wash them myself than call and get fresh ones.

BTW, our stay was GREAT. We got a free upgrade to a turret King and loved the hotel. My only issue was that there is only one entrance and exit and it was quite a long walk to get out of the building. We were only on the 4th floor so at times we considered jumping but we wouldn't have been able to lock the door.

Hey slippahs, after years and years of the peach-aqua bubble stuff, what a great change! Little do some of these sites realize, we visit just to see what is new....
Dare fate! Hike the Kalalau Trail!
Carla

Hey, nice to see that you enjoy the Swan and Dolphin website! I enjoy seeing what's new too!

Just have to add that I dared fate and hiked the Kalalau trail 2 years ago!

Ok, I'll bite... what's the Kalalau Trail? :bounce:

The Kalalau Trail in on the north side of Kauai. It leads to Kee Beach where many movies have been filmed. Beyond Kee Beach is The Falls. It is quite a hike to say the least!

Kate,
There were no ceramic mugs in our room at the Swan a couple of weeks ago. There were the usual paper disposable cups for use with coffee that you see in hotels. :guilty:

Just back from the Dolphin. The coffee makers are 4 cup. They provid eyou with coffee and filters for one brew per day.

I've been reading these posts and am wondering how you are getting such great rates. Is there any discounts that are good for this October? I'm new to all of this, and would love to get a room for under $200. ( I'm not a government worker or a teacher, and don't belong to AAA) Should I wait to book the room, or book and see if a cheaper rate comes up?

There are some BIG conventions in October...Gartner being one of the biggest. You will have a hard time finding a room at ANY price if you want to be there the week of Oct. 8th.

Actually, I was looking at Oct. 25 - 28. Do you know of anything going on then? I know the gulf classic is at the beginning of the week, and the rates are higher. Thanks for your reply! Any one else with any ideas?

Penzish-here are some ideas for getting a good rate:

Sign up at disneyworld.com. I did and got an email with a great rate for this July/Aug. I am not sure if it was a summer promo or not, but they do exist!

Also, keep checking www.moussavers.com for any special deals.

I would also sign up at www.allearsnet.com for the ears the deal newsletter, sometimes you may catch a good deal with that too.

Hope this helps!

Good luck :sunny:

We just checked out of the Swan this morning and sometime after 9:30-10:00 the night before, they started boarding off most of the entrance/check-in area to the Swan. We were trying to get to the check-in area and couldn't figure out where to go. We also didn't see any signs indicating where to go or what was being renovated. Just thought I'd pass the info on. Also, we saw no refillable mugs at Picabu's while we were there.

Did you try through Dreams Unlimited? They're a sponsor on this site and seem knowledgeable. Also, if you go to http://www.swandolphin.com/postcards/ and sign up, the Dolphin/Swan will email you with special offers. That's how I got my rate of $129 for July/August.

Hello, S/D fans!

My DH and I plan to run during the WDW Marathon Weekend, Jan 5/6/7 2007. Primarily b/c the 5K will be run at MGM this year, and b/c the half-marathon starts and finishes at EPCOT, we want an EPCOT area resort!

I decided to book at the Swan (1st time!) so we can take advantage of the nurse discount for value season. Of course, the discounts are not posted yet, but, I decided to make my ressie anyway. I want my ressie set: I can call back to apply the discount later! I understand that the Marathon draws a lot of guests to the EPCOT area resorts.

Do you think that the popularity of the Marathon will affect the nurse discount? The discount is the main reason I chose the Swan over BW or Y&BC! Have any of you runners stayed at the Swan?

You can also go through the Starwood Hotel site. They have a Florida special right now, and they do a guaranteed lowest rate. Also, sign up for Starwood Preferred Guests. If there is a room available they will upgrade you at check-in.

Does anyone know if there will be any conventions going on around Dec. 7-11? thanks!!

We have stayed at the Swan a number of times during Marathon weekend. We have never had a problem getting a gov't rate for that weekend.

As far as lowest rate, I have usually gotten my best rate by calling Starwood or the hotel direct, but this year I found my best rate at Dreams Travel. Neither Starwood or the hotel was willing to match it when I called them.

The main lobby remodeling job will last about 3 weeks, starting this past Tuesday. It will be inaccessible during that period with the entrance relocated somewhere west of the normal entrance, I think maybe the convention entrance area.

I know I read somewhere that the Dolphin will let you use your "old" refillable mug. Does anybody know if this is still true since it sounds like they might be coming out with a new mug? It is worth it to pack them if it is ok to reuse them, otherwise, we will buy new mugs for our trip in June.
Thanks!
