New DVC Owner purchasing strategy help

We have not owned but have traveled in an RV many times. What I intended to say above was we probably won't be getting the RV as we planned and now are looking to purchase DVC instead. For the reasons you state above, we are getting too old to do all the work and care an RV would need. We also traveled a lot in our work and now just happy to go to one location that we love.
Yep, just make traveling from AKV to MK your longest trip now. :)

Mistakes we made -
  • not buying sooner
  • buying a smaller contract, and then later wanting more points. The added cost of 2 separate closings and higher $pp premiums on smaller contracts… would’ve been better buying more points to start.
  • thinking we would rarely stay in 1BR or 2BR
  • we thought direct was out of the question and it ended up making perfect sense for our second purchase
Buy something now. The sooner you start using DVC, the more experience you’ll have to make better purchase decisions later. Keep your eye out for a good deal at one of the resorts you’re surest about. Have you thought about a use year?

I actually wonder if I shouldn't have bought in the middle of my mine and my wife's first trip to Disney 8 and a half years ago. Even now, my wife is convinced we will rarely stay in a 1 br or 2 br. We have 355 points but in my view not enough for how we will vacation in just 2 years.

I have three resale contracts now and your last point about buying direct is the place where I am now. As soon as the Poly Tower opens, I am game to add to what I have there.

This Is The Way

For resale, smaller contracts cost more per point. I'd go for a big 300 point contract and get a better price per point.

Bay lake would be my suggestion in your case. Magic kingdom is the bigger draw, being able to walk back for nap time is important.
I bought 50 BRV for $99, I got 25 BWV for $120, i got 61 BLT for $120, how much are you going to save to make it worth not being able to sell it if needed.?

If you buy smaller resale contracts and later have to sell them you probably bought them for more per point but then were able to sell them for more. If you buy bigger resale contracts and later have to sell them you bought them for less per point but then had to sell them for less as well

Seems like a bit of a wash either way, but here is the kicker. If you buy and USE/HOLD, the larger contracts (that are usually cheaper per point) become a much better deal in the end. I wouldn't buy a single crazy large contract of 500 points or anything of course because it has to be somewhat sellable in the end, but if the points are significantly cheaper, I go for the larger contract. 150, 200 points? No problem. If the points are around the same price, then I would go for the smaller contract. For resale it just depends what is available and what the sellers will take. I just see no reason to only look for super small contracts. Plus that will take forever to get your points built up when you have to grab a bunch of contracts for the same resort with the same use year etc.

If you ...think you’re going to eventually buy a lot of points, do it all at once, it will save a lot of $$.

I was scanning the comments after this one waiting for Mr. @DonkeyHoTay to reply since he's the best example of buying "all at once." There he is in reply #15.

I think he got something like 2,000 points at OKW within a month! Legend! Love it!! :-)

Also in our 50s. We own BWV for the races/festivals/holidays for the easy walk back to the rooms and the great dining options at your doorstep. We also love WL and added on there for resale. However, we went CCV because we didn't want two 2042 expirations. If you want WL, yet you mentioned passing the contracts to your kids in the future, I'd suggest your regret would be not getting CCV instead of BR.
