I just read on Deb's site that the air conditioners do not stay on all the time and that there must be movement in the room (at some disney resorts)? Is that true? I like to come back to a nice, cool room at the end of the day.

This is a very common misconception. If the room is occupied, the climate control will be active. But if the room is not occupied, the climate control will still be active, but not as much.

For example, if it's set for 68 degrees, and the door opens/closes, it then checks for movement. If there is movement, the room is occupied, and it keeps going. If there is no movement, the room is not occupied, and it might only cool to 75 degrees. Then, when the guests return, and open the door, it starts to cool down to 68 again.

I'm begining to sweat just trhinking about it. I set the AC at the D on < 50. No value resorts for me!

It's not just the value resorts...the started putting this type of system in the deluxe resorts last year..So, my guess is that as time passes that all resorts will end up with this system..

One call complaining to maintenance will amend this matter ASAP. I called the moment I entered the suite last summer, and noticed they changed/upgraded the system. We enjoy the room "extra-cool" (we seem to sleep better, etc), and have chenille blankets with us for the sofa (while relaxing together watching T.V.).

Maintenance arrived within minutes and "went to work" in each room. He completely unscrewed the covers, took them off...and did some other "maintenance" things. He then informed us he would have to go back and "reset" things on the "main" (common A/C maintenance lingo/vernacular). He asked us to "wait" until he called to turn them on, which we were thrilled to do!

Needless to say...it worked like a charm. The rooms were SO COLD, you could literally HANG MEAT!! (LOL).

Well, maybe not this...(hanging turkey looks good enough to eat)mmmm...

BINGO!! This is IT!! Our room was THIS COLD!!

Thanks to all the great people on this thread for all the great tips and info that you share! I'm still lurking, and I'm so happy to report that your suggestions have worked. I just checked my ressies and found the upgrade we humbly requested was granted! We got our resort view with balcony! It says,"view of crescent lake."

Do any of you know what direction that faces? If high enough, will we be able to view fireworks from our room? And do we need to make doubly sure that the balcony is closed for the a/c to work properly?

RobMax - I'm just keeping quiet except to TRY to stay on topic! It isn't easy. I go rattle my mouth off on the Budget Board on the ebay thread usually!!! This week is not very profitable for my Disney trip............I need to find a few deals when garage sale season starts to sell!

Good luck to you guys who are half unemployed!!! I know the paycut we took here for the job change is getting a little better. Got the shift he needed to get his part-time job back!!! And the night shift pays a .40 differential! So closer to his old wage. YEAH!!!!! Now when the cheaper insurance kicks in in September!!!

Hi all, coming up for air again. Have 2 days to get my 'stuff' in. Have been working non-stop for a long time.

Good to see DF coming around again. As soon as I saw that meat hanging in her post, I knew she must be feeling better!

Had a tragic thing happen here this weekend. A family from our area (had the son in school a few years ago) was on their first day of vacation in Hawaii and were sitting on a rock watching the cean in Kauii anda giant wave swooped them up, took them out to sea and they both drowned. The son was closer to the shore and it threw him on the beach. Bystanders got him pulled to safety, but his parents were thrown against the rocks and they tried to revive them without luck. So sad. Grandma and grandpa are going to raise him. And he has an uncle here too. Since we are headed over there this summer, I think I have a newfound respect for the Pacific Ocean.

On a lighter note, have great trips to all headed to Disney this week. (as close as I can get to being on topic) I am on spring break too this week! Yea!

And the other big news in our family, DD got a job!!! We are so happy for her, since she has tried for two years to get something she really wanted. Yea.

DF and ZW - are ya'll telling me the S & D has the same system now???

RobMax......DD graduated from Mizzou with a degree in Journalism and will be working at the St. Louis Science Center, writing brochures, fund raising, whatever they need written. This is her first day and she already called me and said she was a half hour early and no one was there! How that will change, right?!

And yes, the S/D has the same cooling system. Last summer we took a small fan and kept it on all the time to keep the air moving. Not sure we needed it, but we were fine. (and I need it cool in the room all the time)
