OZZIE~I'll be honored to lift the glass! Asti? Mmmmmm! :p
(Can you tell I'm having fun with the PICS thing?) I never brought a cam to school for K-G first day...although I wish I would have (hindsight). Yes...that is one 18 YO with a LOT of spare time on his hands! (Did you see his hair?!)

Mouseteacher~I have to agree, as usual. ;) But...the SKINS? Okay, you were thinking STRATEGY...so you're off the hook (LOL). Enjoy the weekend, and brush-up on the Houdini classics (Escape artist techniques). ^_^

madge~I believe they do...and the Dolphin has the "SWEET SLEEPER" Crib! The bedding is the same "heavenly" stuff as the BEDS...Ahhhh. I'm on those CLOUDS right now.

Muffy~ HAPPY FRIDAY to YOU!

Blondie~:teeth: (Better late than never...and you're Never too late to make me SMILE!)

Disbug~"Who's your daddy?" (LOL)...DADDY BURGERS? Are they as good as they sound?!

Lauren~Keep Posting! I enjoy reading about all the adventures you are having in the MAGIC. Hope you enjoyed your visit to Kimonos. Have FUN!

DF.......I'll be right over! Let's see, St. Louis to Calif.......3-4 hours, If I catch a plane in an hour I can be there by 10, your time! Yum, yum. Can say I have never had Dom, but would love to try!

I just realized.....I guess if you have Dom, you need Waterford, right? I'm there!

To keep on topic: Sorry folks, those delicacies are not available in the Club Level lounge.......

They look pretty good, but I nearly lost it on the oysters and escargot.....................

To all the S/D Sorority Sisters, you have a great thread. I love reading the tidbits you add to "stay on-topic." Please continue, I am taking notes.

DF>> Thank you for your pictures. The ducklings are so cute. I showed my DS the pictures and now he wants one (please don't send one!) The pics of the snacks, yum! Its almost midnight and now I am hungry.

Lauren>> I am really enjoying your trip reports. It sounds like you are having a great time. Keep them coming!

Mom Poppins>> Regarding the breakfast vouchers you received from Paramount, can they be used at the Crystal Palace? I have seen conflicting answers in other posts. Thanks!

Questions for all:

1. Someone mentioned the cribs at the S/D. Have any of you used them before for your young ones? I am going to sound like a germ-a-phobe, but did you have any concerns about the cleanliness of the cribs? Did you need to bring your own sheets and blankets? I was thinking about bringing our pack&play but it may be a hassle on the plane. Also, does anyone know what the charge is?

2. Do you feel that the Q & C vouchers are worthwhile, since most of the restaurants in the Boardwalk area do not accept them? (I know that Beaches and Cream does, and it looks like a good deal) Would we have to "run all over WDW" finding places to eat just to save a few dollars? Thanks!!

I must admit that I was one of those Moms with a camera hanging around my DS's kindergarten room last week. His teacher had to finally run all of the parents out. I think it was harder on us to leave than it was for the kiddos to stay. He is my first to start school. When some of you talk about your kids starting high school or college, I don't know how I will manage when that time comes.

Thanks again for the very enjoyable reading!

good night,

ladyjayhawk

Ozzie,
I haven't tried an avatar yet. I would like one though! I did put your directions in favorites. I will probably be the LAST one on the DIS to get an avatar! ;) Hope not!

Have a great weekend everyone!

DF99~ Loved those adorable little duck pics. Keep 'em coming!

About the New York Times #1 best selling book......

The Kissing Hand (by Audrey Penn) is a lovely childrens book that helps a child make that big step in going to school. The little raccoon, Chester, doesn't want to go to school (separation anxiety) and Mother Raccoon gives him "The Kissing Hand". She kisses his hand and then if Chester misses his Mother, he can hold "The Kissing Hand" up to his cheek and remember "Mommy loves you!" The little raccoon then gives his Mother "The Kissing Hand" at the end of the story so she remembers "Chester loves you!". Very sweet little story. It's a comfort for children who will have a temporary separation from people who LOVE them!

FYI......Can still apply when little ducklings go off to college next year! ;)

Alas, I too was a camera-in-hand parent Thursday. And Friday was a much better day for my DD5 and DS8! God is so good to us!

Good morning, sorority sisters. Those apps looked appetizing indeed! And I missed the Dom and the Waterford!!!

Unfortunately I raised my glass of wine and promptly went to bed soon after my post last night. I was really tired. I am truly a morning person and not a night person - I was the same as a child.

On topic: Check out the Disney gift shop at the Dolphin - Daisy's Garden.

Mouseteacher-I was wiped out also last night. The first couple of weeks of school are always the most difficult then it flies right by after that!

Happy weekend, everyone!

Hi all,
Even though I was up late, and was very tired, I am up early because I am going to a meeting this morning(on Sat?) to find out the details of becoming a Nationally Certified Master teacher! It certifies you for 10 years. Will make me an extra busy person this year!

madge~I believe they do...and the Dolphin has the "SWEET SLEEPER" Crib! The bedding is the same "heavenly" stuff as the BEDS...Ahhhh. I'm on those CLOUDS right now.

really? I had no idea there was such a thing until we planned our trip to DC in July...the "Heavenly Shower"? what makes it so heavenly? I know they only have those at the upscale Westin properties....

I wonder how you score a "sweet sleeper" crib :) I think anna would LOVE that!

Morning all! On topic first....

ladyjayhawk ~ We used a crib for DD2 at the Swan and it was a real crib. I had brought my own bedding, but when it arrived looking so pristine, with lovely bedding (including a fringed white blanket)... I used theirs. I thought it was very clean. There is no charge for the crib. Just make sure to reserve it ahead of time for availability.

Dreamflight~ Loved the late night "snack" you made for us all it was delish! "Daddy Burgers" evolved from "Momma Burgers"! My DH's mother makes her hamburgers from scratch and then cooks them in butter. Meanwhile the bun is spread with yellow mustard and allowed to cook so that the edges brown in the butter. Very unusual, very delicious, very unhealthy! So in an effort to get my DH to do a little more of the cooking, I convinced him to develop "Daddy Burgers" (a more healthy broiled version). With all of the compliments he gets, he loves making them and now our girls have a tradition to pass on!

AHHHH I am here! My computer has refused to boot up properly since yesterday, and the last two times it did it froze up before I could post! It would usually boot up again.... I do believe the motherboard is totally fried. I hope I didn't miss the escargot!

It is Carry Nation Days in our town this weekend. Our town will be brimming with people from everywhere! We, on the other hand, have a two hour hockey practice an hour north... followed by quick drive back home and onto the first football game of the season for ds. OHHH last night our football team WON! They haven't won in years! *and I am not stretching the truth on this!*
DISBUG! I love you! You found my picture! Thank you thank you thank you!

On topic>> I dreamed about the S/D last night! Must be the heavenly bed I created putting me in the mood for nice dreams! (ok, so that really isn't on topic, but it had the right S/D in it!)

I am sorry I missed all the fun last night! I need to get off this computer... getting the evil eye from its owner who needs to get some things done before we head off for hockey practice!

*sorority wave to all*

OZZIE~How did you know the FLUTES in the photo were indeed WATERFORD?! C'est, TRES BIEN!

*I too, have a FABULOUS TIP for anyone experiencing problems at the WDW DOLPHIN. Call the front desk, and ask for JAMES. He is a FD manager...and has been at the Dolphin since it opened. He usually also works eves. He is absolutely wonderful, and extremely proficient. Like Andrew at the SWAN, he'll rescue your vacation if necessary.

jgates~Let me assure you...these shuckers & snails are DELISH when washed down with a SWIRL of the BEST BUBBLY! (LOL)

ladyjayhawk~Ducklings...sure are the CUTEST little babies. I'm still amazed to think they came from an "egg", and the egg was laid (w/o breaking) by Zong! Now...that's what I call expert "Birthing"! ^_^

CRIBS are FREE! They are also very "sanitary" in appearance. I would not hesitate to bring along your own crib bedding (makes the little one more comfy too), as this will not take up much space in the luggage...and offers more peace of mind.

The "Vouchers" were okay, and literally the BEST bargain at B & C. As for the rest of the world? They were a bit of a hassle, and only saved me a buck/two in most locations. In some places...they were about the same as if I paid. Also, DD & DH made funny comments like "okay, let's get out our COUPONS and see where we can eat" (laughing). It became a joke. It was a bit restrictive for us, as we are accustomed to stopping "wherever" we decide to grab a bite. Using vouchers requires too much strategy for us. So...this year, I skipped the vouchers.

I must agree, it's much harder on the parents than the kids (life-changes). I recall vividly viewing the upper class students in my DD's elementary school...and perceiving their station as SO far removed from my little girl in K-G. It almost seemed as if time stood still, or was advancing much more slowly back then. Each transition (from Jumper to skirt, etc.), however minor in detail, reminded me of the ever-accelerating & passing of time. As she approached 8th grade, I "thought" it would be more difficult than it actually "was" (or proved to be). I was surprised at myself, and the manner in which I "handled" this transformation (to H.S.). Now...as she enters her Junior year of H.S., I remain determined and resolved to overcome these barriers/critical hurdles of her deliverance to becoming fully autonomous. I resolve to revel in her achievements, and wallow in her spirit and life-spark. She is effervescent and chomping at the bit to experience LIFE to the fullest. One can not help but desire to "bask" in such an aura. ;)

EiLuvCinderella~I'll be off to B&N to purchase this book (put away & save) as another "gift" for DD as she heads to college. She'll find it poignant and sweet, I'm sure. I also bought a Seuss..."Oh, the places you'll go.", which is one of my FAVS! Thank you, for the storyline and tip. These are the little ties which bind our hearts together.

Mouseteacher...my DM too! She is a morning person, and prefers to retire early (Early to bed and early to rise....). She is also a SPRING person, where as I am a FALL/AUTUMN person. Such differences make us unique...and lend perspective to one another's viewpoints. She is one of the most wonderful persons in my life. ^_^ I'll toast to you both, w/the DOM & WF!

jmcross~Happy WEEKEND to you, too! Glad you have made it through the first two weeks, which I agree are the ADJUSTING periods. After this...things seem to settle-down into a routine (thank heavens!).

madge~Check-out these two sites for info on the HEAVENLY BATH & CRIB!

Great articles...with everything in detail. Enjoy!

Disbug~Thanks for the wonderful descriptions of the DADDY/MOMMY Burgers! My mouth is watering for one of these concoctions right now...LOL. What grade of ground beef do you suggest? Any other specifics (brands of mustards, etc.)? Thanks again.

#1hockeymom~Hope your computer is working better today! At least your dreams are not consumed by your troubles/frustrations (heavenly beds...DREAMY INDEED).

Have a GREAT SATURDAY!

DD & DH are at the Mall walking, while the truck is in having a large bolt removed from the front passenger side tire, oil changed and alignment done. I'm here at home...sipping my Starbucks Mocha Frappacino Venti (w/four extra shots of espresso), and visiting my sisters on the DIS! Time to go and hit the Pilates (to burn-off this sinful bev...lol).

TTFN, Always~

More live from the Swan

Let's see, where did I leave off? When last I posted I think we were just finishing naps after a morning at MGM. We then boated on over to Epcot, it was about 230 and we were all starving as we had not had lunch yet. Went to that little cafe in Morroco -- I think Cafe Tangerine? The three of us split a lamb wrap and a vegiterian combo. The combo was good, but the wrap was outstanding. Spent the rest of the afternoon walking around the countries, saw the living statue - hope the picture comes out cute. Walked on to test track - it was the first time that I got to ride it because every other time I have been here, it has been broken. It was great fun, even mom enjoyed it. Eventually, we made it back to the hotel around 700 and went to dinner at Kimonos - we were the only ones in the place. I am pretty picky about Japanese food, especially sushi, but let me tell you everyone was right -- this place is great. We shared one order of gyoza and they were so good that we ordered a second order. We also shared assorted rolls and some chirashi as well as an order of tempura. Excellent food, very attentive service.

After dinner we waddled (kind of full from dinner) over to Jellyrolls. We got there around 830 and it was still pretty empty. Got a table and they nicely found a place for us to stash the wheelchair. The drink special was a 32 oz "koolaid" which my sister and I both indulged in. It went down a bit too easy and before you knew it my sister and I were the loudest ones in the audience. I think that Scotty (one of the piano players) was amazed that we knew every single word to American Pie. What can I say? My sister and I are sort of the idiot savants of old music, including such classics as "Brandy." There must not have been much to do in the 70's while we were growing up because every song from that era is embedded in our brains. Anyway, we had a great time singing and drinking and before we knew it it was midnight. Mom looked pretty tired and the bar was getting pretty smoky, so we left. It was raining lightly on the way back to the hotel, but that was the only rain that we saw all day. Who is afraid of a tropical storm named Henri anyway?

Woke up later than usual today (Saturday) - those kool aids must have had more of an effect on me than I thought. By way of some background, I have been to WDW about 10 times before and frankly am somewhat of a commando. My kids know that dawdling in the morning is not an option or they will hear lecture number 132 entitled "The virtues of getting to the parks before they open". No one wants to hear that again, so they always manage to stay with the game plan. Back to our story, here is was, 8:00 am and we are all still in our pjs. It is pouring outside and my sister says "Let's just get to Epcot whenever" Not get to the park when it opens? There is something just wrong about that - but ok, I will try anything once (even though I had a wild urge to throw some clothes on and run through the rain to Epcot.)We lay around and finally I got up to go get us some breakfast. By the way, I checked both of the health clubs, no bottled water, although the Dolphin did have a big basket of bananas out for people.

We walked over to Epcot around 10 and rode test track two more times. (No lines) Then we decided that we would rather be at MK. Go to MK on a Saturday? This would violate yet another of my long time rules, but what the heck, we could always leave it was too crowded. Took the monorail over to MK. Lines were nonexistent I guess because it is September and also because the park closes at 6 tonight for Night of Joy. Went on AE for the first time -- that was ok. Rode HM. Walked around, shopped, people watched. We had just been to the MK with our kids in June and done a pretty thorough job of MK so Mom wasn't that excited to do any rides. Frankly, the rides are ok without kids, but they are so much better with the kids that we just didn't feel like it. It started to rain so we hopped on the boat to WL to eat at Whispering Canyon. I got the quesadilla, my sister got a salad and my mom some sort of pasta. In hindsight, I think that we should have all gotten the unlimited skillet. Our food was ok, just nothing special. The place was fun though-- there were a lot of people eating and the waitstaff was hamming it up all over the place. We had the apple caramel pie with icecream for dessert and that also looked better than it tasted. We would go back again, but order differently next time.

By the time lunch was over, the sun was out and there was a great breeze. Took the boat back to the MK. Mom was tired so we then hopped a bus back to the swan. It is now 330, my sister is out at the pool and mom is asleep. Time to make some plans for tonight. Any great ideas? I think we will either go to MGM or EPCOT for the fireworks. If we go to MGM, maybe we can eat at that 50's prime time place. If we go to EPCOT tonight I am not sure where we will eat. Maybe at the dinner place in Morroco? I am open to suggestions so if you have any suggested itineries, I would love to hear them. The only thing I don't feel like doing is a character meal. Also looking for things to do later tonight after the fireworks? Suggestions appreciated. Usually I am here with kids and after the fireworks is when you go back to the hotel, wrestle everyone into jammies and call it a day. This grownup thing is a whole new concept for me.

Looking forward to hearing from you all.

Lauren

Good afternoon, everyone! Just returned from a work session with another principal (and my best friend!) on coordinating the volunteers we will be chairing for the national convention in April. We need to start now to get this massive task underway so that all runs smoothly in the spring. So, I sympathize with ozzie who is also doing a working Saturday.

DF ~ I am a summer person. I like late spring but in the northeast our weather can still be nasty. July and August rule in my book! I have no problem with 90 degree temps and can deal with humidity, too! DH always looks at me quite askance as he is NOT a summer person.

Visiting the S/D and WDW in the summer is fine by me.

Lauren ~ great report. I am not crazy about Prime Time - it's okay and food was average. I really like the Brown Derby. In Epcot, I like Chefs de France and Teppanaki (sp) in Japan. I also make a point on every trip to eat the Yachtsman Steakhouse at the YC. Just a few suggestions to ponder. Let us know what you do this evening. Have fun!
