My take of the game 6 is Alou's tirade after the incident is more to blame. It was just a foul ball that wasn't caught. Nobody scored, no one reached base. But he exploded, which only got the fans going more (reports say there was a loud vulgar chant that went up). Add to that the unfortunate preoccupation in the media and call in shows with stuff like curses and how long its been since the Cubs were in or won the WS (totally irrelevant to the current people who are now on the team) and you almost get an underlying feeling that something bad is waiting to happen. So when a strange but relatively harmless thing happens, the players seemed to overreact and get too nervous. Hence the Prior ball four wild pitch, the botched grounder, grooving a pitch to Pudge on 0-2 etc.

Ok, please indulge my 2 cents.....
It is nice to see a calm, normal Cub fan, Bill. I saw a fan who reached up for a foul ball that would have hit him in the head had he not, and that was clearly in the stands. (which was why interference was not called) This poor guy who did not lose the game for the Cubs, had garbage and beer thrown on him all night. He had to wear a disguise to leave the game. His address and work number were written in a Chicago newspaper today and he has had to disconnect his phone. This is as bad as what happened at the Sox/Yanks game on Sat. It is almost worse, because he has been blamed for messing up a 'catch' that we don't even know would have been 'caught' and was only out #2. He just 'reacted' as any fan does when a ball lands in your lap IN THE STANDS. He did not reach over the rail. It did not lose the game for the Cubs, just as one single play rarely does. Ok, my 2 cents.
It is 7 pm and I just got home from school and some meetings and am ready for a 'calgon moment'. Hey, Deb, what shall we order in tonight? Rough days in the education world.

Boy...sounds like you need a vacation! And since you LOVE the song..."When you wish upon a star", you would LOVE the DISNEY CRUISE! The Ship's Horn plays this TUNE!! ::yes::

ROB & Bill~You are both RIGHT! Yet, the media seems to incite these incidents with numerous repeat shots of the incident, faces and antics, different angles, etc. So...from the comfy seat on the couch~It "appeared" to be MORE than it truly was (especially when they focused on Alou's TIRADE and TANTRUM...further clouding the issue). This is a topic we could CHEW ON forever! :hyper:

Rob...was that the student you tossed out, whom had their parent (father) come and speak with you in regards to this matter (or was that another one!)? AND yes...I recall all the stuff which occurred on the "other" board, where someone just about ran an official BACKGROUND check on you to unveil your credentials~! It's amazing the length some folks will go to in pursuit of nothing (it wasn't like it was even an issue!).

I also recall you as being extremely witty, and very devoted to your wife and family. Wonderful attributes which fit in very well on our thread! :goodvibes

Ozzie~I had NO idea it was that bad!! How CRAZED is that? I thought security would have ushered him safely out of the stadium, etc., and to think his identity was revealed in the paper...(shudder!). I truly meant nothing by my simple post. Most of it was purely in jest/fun. The "reflex" alone would make me grab the ball (hard-round object flying at my face). I feel for the kid whom caught the ball, and hope nothing more happens to him.

P.S. mouseteacher~Your SOX are alive and well!

DF......sorry....Please know that my 2 cents were not aimed at you, but at the insaneness of what is taking place in our sports world. So much blame to go around. (especially the media)

disbug.....can't wait for the rest of your pictures. And Glen........I love the pictures of the flowers at Epcot. I would love to be able to take that in some time!

I think we need a few pictures of more disney:

DF - I also was not aiming my response at you - more at the media that keeps playing up the "loser" angle all the time that I'm convinced gets the players tight.

Not looking good tonight - as I expected. Last night put too much pressure on them - and of course the Marlins are a very talented team.

Such fun and they were two different incidents.

Some of your kinda comments remind me of what people said about Ruch Limbaugh - Thanks - Now I'm off to take 30 Oxycoton and grade some exams. Maybe the average will raise above 68%.

BTW - we are implementing the Letter grade + and - system here (i. e. you can ge an A+. A. or A-). Seems a little silly to me for students in a university settng... What do ya'll think? How would/do you handle the breakdown.

Finally Go Reds - To the local pub and get trashed that is. Many of you will not return - THANK GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

New adventures will abound in every Walt Disney World theme park:

at Magic Kingdom -- a wacky encounter with the lovable Stitch;
at Epcot -- an exhilarating flight over California;
at Disney-MGM Studios -- an action-packed stunt show;
at Disney's Animal Kingdom -- a high-speed snowy train ride to the Himalayan Mountains.

I hate to lose AE - my oldest is still building up the nerv to go on it!!!!!!!

Here is what's in store for Walt Disney World guests:

Mischief Abounds in Stitch's Great Escape!

The Academy Award-nominated film "Lilo & Stitch" inspires the new Magic Kingdom attraction Stitch's Great Escape! scheduled to open in late 2004.

A "pre-qual" set shortly before the events of the hit Disney motion picture "Lilo & Stitch," the family-friendly adventure in Tomorrowland will showcase the mayhem caused by the mischievous "Experiment 626" -- a.k.a. Stitch -- when first discovered in the Galactic Federation.

Entering Stitch's Great Escape! Magic Kingdom guests are recruited by the Galactic Federation Grand Councilwoman to provide additional security for a captured alien whose reputation for being extremely "difficult" has preceded him. Even so, authorities underestimate Stitch's capacity for playful disobedience, causing havoc to erupt with guests caught in the middle of the fun.

Stitch's Great Escape! will feature some of the most sophisticated Audio-Animatronics® technology ever developed by Walt Disney Imagineering.

Stitch's Great Escape! replaces The ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter, which will close later this month.

Soarin' Attraction Lands at Epcot

The popular "Soarin' Over California" attraction at Disney's California Adventure will take Walt Disney World guests on an eye-filling journey when it opens at Epcot in 2005.

The new attraction sends guests on a sweeping flyover above the wondrous Golden State for a birds-eye view of the rich landscape and topography. "Soarin' Over California" will be the newest addition to The Land pavilion at Epcot, complementing the popular pavilion's agriculture and ecology theme.

The unforgettable experience combines cinematic artistry and state-of-the-art motion base technology. Guests are literally lifted 40 feet inside a giant projection screen dome and completely surrounded with the beauty and wonder of the state of California as their elevated theater seats take them on a scenic tour over the Golden Gate Bridge, the Redwood forests, Napa Valley, Yosemite and more. The free-flight experience intensifies as guests feel the sweeping winds and smell fragrant orange blossoms and pine trees around them.

Insiders Reveal Secrets Behind New Stunt Show Spectacular

Disney-MGM Studios guests will be on the edge of their seats as the secrets behind Hollywood's most astounding stunts unfold at the new Disney-MGM Studios stunt show.

Inspired by the popular Stunt Show Spectacular at Disneyland Paris, the high-octane, stunt show features specially designed cars, motorcycles and jet skis, plus special effects -- with audience members pulled into the fun. Insiders will reveal show secrets, detailing how stunts are created, designed and filmed for the movies. Filmed images are revealed on an oversized screen, illustrating how the use of different camera angles can add drama to filmed scenes.

The new show will open in 2005 and is part of a larger redevelopment of the backlot area of Disney-MGM Studios that also includes new cityscapes, adding Chicago and San Francisco to our existing New York City skyline.

Fun Peaks With Expedition EVEREST

Walt Disney World guests will discover for themselves the fearsome legend of the yeti when Expedition EVEREST -- a new high-speed train adventure that combines coaster-like thrills with the excitement of a close encounter of the hairy kind -- opens in 2006 at Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park.

The Expedition EVEREST adventure begins when guests board an old mountain railway destined for Mount Everest. The train rolls through thick bamboo forests, past thundering waterfalls, along shimmering glacier fields and climbs higher and higher through the snow-capped peaks.

Suddenly the thrills intensify as the train races both forward and backward through mountain caverns and icy canyons as guests head for an inevitable face-to-muzzle showdown with the mysterious yeti -- known to some as the abominable snowman.

Nearly 200 feet high, Expedition EVEREST will be located in the Asia section of the theme park.

Well, not a good day yesterday. Cubs lose (though the heartbreak of game 6 had me ready for the end). And we reluctantly decided that a trip in February would not be financially responsible next year. Number one son is on ethe 5-year plan at DePaul and number 2 son was just accepted at his first choice, Purdue (no in state tuition for us). So even putting out $3-4 grand, plus our planned vacation to Colorado next summer, is too much.

Well, like the Cubs, we'll wait another year.

RobMax (Glenn) - DePaul has a plus/minus system. Drives my son nuts. He seems to get more of those grades than straight ones. Especially since most of the profesors rarely spell out ahead of time what constitutes each grade. So he gets a B- for example and while he figures it's better than a C+, why not just a B? As you say, at the university level it seems unlikely they really can be that precise.

Oh well - with no malice meant towards the Sigma Delta Yankee fans:

GO RED SOX!!!!

My academic response is "no S#!T"

Did he say there were yankees around here - and I was sure the war of nothern agression was over. LOLROF

madge, oh madge!! THAT WAS ME! I WAS in Canada listening to the WONDERFUL OFF KILTER Band! (Thursday afternoon!) I wish you had caught up with me! Boo Hoo! So close!!

I thought it was you....rats! darn that pesky toddler of mine:headache: she was having a meltdown at the time....

we LOVE Off Kilter--have been fans ever since they started playing at Epcot. Next September we are going to make the trip to Indy to see them perform. I can't wait!

One packing tip--make sure you have ALL your toiletries this time::yes::

:umbrella: Sorry about that ww52. But congrats on your boys continuing education. I was tottering on the edge of my March 2004 trip because DD9's talent (ballet, music lessons) is sucking up our limited finances better than those microscopic dust seeking vacuum cleaners. But several factors helped pulled me back from the no WDW abyss:

I've been to 3 funerals in 2 months and am on my way to another this Saturday. Two were male cousins (1 in his 50's, one in his 60's) and 2 were lovely, vibrant female friends (44-heart attack, 41 cancer).

And the Buyers Remorse post (espec. DF99) really bolstered my decision.

I rounded DH and DD up and we started the sacrifice jar: DH his music CD and coffee money and DD her "you're so cute" money she gets from church and other functions with friends or relatives(hey-that can be 7 or 8 dollars a week), and her lunch money (I make her lunch now), me-6 dollar limit on lunch and bring it at least 2 times per week.

We're going and we'll have a great time. I've been waiting for a code for Animal Kingdom Lodge and if it doesn't come through and I can't extend my dates for the Dolphin, we may spend our first couple of days in DTD.

***PD*** to you.:wizard:

Thanks Tink. We'll be back in 2005 most likely. And we were just there this past summer. my daughter is still editing and producing a DVD of our last trip. We'll probably have a screen party for it when its ready, which will be pretty special in itself.

Add some Vicodin...and a shot of stoly's! (One step forward....TWO STEPS BACK!) LOL. Seriously, though. It seems ABSURD.

I am Distraught by your post reflecting the CLOSING of AE!! I had NO IDEA this was in the works. Thank Goodness we rode it this past summer. I'm always saddened to see things go. They better NEVER remove my CoP...or there's going to be a "crazed woman from Cali" chained to the Calliope~type ROOF! (Orlando Breaking-news @ 6) :rotfl:

Bill~:( Sorry to hear you nixed your WDW plans. I understand your concerns, and hope if you come across some extra $$$...or better strategy, you'll reconsider. (Have you read the BUYER'S REMORSE thread?) Congrats on your Purdue acceptance (DS). Great school. ::yes::

*plus/minus system flusters DD in H.S., she would NOT be able to tolerate this in College! I certainly won't mention your posts on this subject...it would only fluster her more. I still have not figured out my old Philosophy teacher's "CURVE" system @ Pepperdine! No one could...and he was NOT the approachable type! :headache:

Ozzie~Thanks...for the memories! (You take some AWESOME/AMAZING pics!). :sunny:

Tink~Boy...your post is unsettling (recent passings), and certainly a GREAT reason to visit the MAGIC! ^_^ Here's some PD for a CODE for AKL *******************!!! I'm glad to know my contribution to the "BUYER'S REMORSE" thread was beneficial. Thank you. :goodvibes

Hi all,
I double what DF posted to you all. Yes, Bill, congrats on admit to Purdue....great school, lots of $$$! You might be pleasantly surprised how financial aid can help when you have 2 in college at the same time. Helped us alot. :)
Tink....I agree....sometimes vacations are worth the sacrifice. Life is way too short. Things for the house are, after all, just things. Family is another story. Read the buyers remorse thread and DF impressed alot of people(as always). We are lucky to have her with us each day! Words of wisdom for all. :wizard:
For all the new things going on at WDW.....that is why we keep having to go back! ::MickeyMo

As for plus/minus grades in college:

University of Missouri also has the plus/minus system and BOTH my dd and ds hate it. Doesn't really make sense. The minus brings down their grade point average and without them, the gp would be better. Even though you would think the plus would bring the gp up, they don't seem to like that either. They both prefer to not have the system at all. Profs still curve the grades, so p/m is not really necessary. More work for them.
 :duck:
Fun day at school today. I am involved in a "travel buddy" program with three other schools(one in Conn, one in ARK, and one in Ariz). We send our "buddy" to each school for a few weeks and put some writings and drawings from our kids in the box with our buddy. Our buddy is a UCONN Husky. He arrived a few days ago and the kids loved it. I made a cardboard doghouse and put it on a mat, made a sign with "Who Let the Dogs Out?" and had the kids bring their stuffed animals in to play with our buddy. We had a ball and the kids loved it. I was just awarded a small grant to help with postage, etc and am including an Albert Pujols bobble head doll in our package. Hope he is a recognizable subject! AND tomorrow is FRIDAY!!:Pinkbounc

:bounce: :bounce: The Sox are ready to burst the curse!

I am sad that the Cubs lost. I was in their corner. I have to emphatically agree with Bill and ozzie on the fan issue. That poor young man - he did not lose the game for the Cubs. Only a team can lose or win a game. Our society always seems to need to blame. I hope that young man will be okay and the hoopla fades away so he can resume a normal life.

 It had been crazy 2 days in school - busy, hectic, frustrating and so much more!!! I really need that grotto pool and a  from::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo . Thanks for the pictures, ozzie.

S/D pins????!!!!! ::yes

Glenn~ My undergraduate and graduate college gave + and -, too. I was used to this grading system beginning in high school so I didn't think of it as being a problem.

It saddens me a bit to see the old attractions leave the WDW parks. I know that new attractions bring in excitement and keeps WDW fresh. However, I am such a traditionalist and sentimentalist that not seeing the old familiar attractions, shows, etc. is sad. It's like holding onto your old and worn but comfortable slippers.

Rumors abound amongst the CM's I talked to about the upcoming changes at WDW. VERY aggressive 5 and 10 year plans are being developed for new rides and attractions at every park! Unfortunately, CoP is slated to be gone... and Space Mountain is going to be updated ala RnRC! I had heard about Stitch being added as the "Alien" in AE, and personally I was glad for that, because once was enough for me on the current version!:earseek:

I am spending a little time with the girls princess: before finishing up my packing for pittsburgh! Thanks again for the city info, everyone...

Does anyone have a favorite shuttle they like to use from the airport? There appear to be quite a few listed on the airport website. I have my Loaner Laptop in hand and double checked to make sure I had a regular cable and fast internet cable just in case!:hyper: I AM READY! (But first.... a trip to the SUPER WALMART!):teeth: (JK, for those who don't get it... read my trip reports!)DAY 1: DISBUG GOES SOLO!

DAY 2 : DISBUG GOES SOLO!

GOOD LUCK MOUSETEACHER! MAY THE BEST TEAM WIN! :bounce:

Go Red Sox- right on to the World Series!!!

Mouseteacher, we will proudly say we are among the special who come from MA, home of the World Series bound Red Sox!!!
Less than an hour now til game time. Caroline :wave2:

Swan questions...

I have a few questions about the club level at the Swan:

1) Is it worth the extra money for this level? ($60per night - we are only staying three nights)
2) Do you get a better room at club level?
3) Do you get a balcony?
4) Is it better just to reserve a balcony?
5) What kind of amenities do you receive as club?

I also have a few questions about the Swan:

1) Can you see the fireworks from any of the rooms?
2) What is the best view or room type to request?
3) How is the transportation from the Swan to MK and MGM?

Thank you so so much...

:wave2: Welcome, yfraser. You most certainly will get your questions answered here from so many knowledgeable people.

Re: CL and is it worth $60 a night? The Swan has 2 offerings morning and evening (7-10 and 5:00-7:30) with nothing in between. You need to decide if you will use enough of the offerings over the duration of your stay to be cost effective. On our last Swan stay, we were offered Club privleges at $50 a night and refused. We knew we would only use the morning offerings and it didn't make $ sense for 2 people for continental breakfast.

CL doesn't necessarily offer you "better" rooms and not necessarily a balcony.
