Has anyone applied the value of a ticket to a Sorcerer's Pass renewal lately?

Last year I was able to apply the value of a 6-day park hopper to a Sorcerer Pass renewal, but it took some doing. I started with DVC member services, who couldn't do it and transferred me to regular ticketing, who couldn't do it and transferred me to Ticket Specialists, who could. I find myself in a similar situation. I need to purchase a regular ticket for a guest who will probably, but not certainly, join us on an upcoming trip. The rest of us traveling have Sorcerer's passes. If for some reason the guest can't come, I don't want to be stuck with a ticket that can't be used so I'm just curious about any current data points on this. Thanks!

I have always had to do it on site but there has been no change to this point to upgrades.

It should be fine. The only restriction would be if you wanted to renew using points as part of MMB.

This could not be used for that.

You probably know this from past experience, but keep a record of Disney’s online price for the ticket you buy on the day you buy it. That’s the value you’ll get if you apply that ticket to the AP, even if you buy the ticket from an authorized reseller at a discount.

Yes you can do this. Family just bought 5 day tickets and upgraded to an annual pass. Call the regular ticket line and press the option for ticketing and then press 1 for Disney vacation club members. They will ask for your member id and will be able to upgrade without transferring to ticket specialists or member services. This was not a renewal, but I dont see why it would be any different.

Thank you! I’m leaning towards doing this at the end of a 5 day ticket so I don’t have to deal with park reservations during the stay and waiting to change until day 4 or 5– this gives me hope it won’t be too much of a time suck while on vacation.

When I went last March they said they couldn’t apply a multi day ticket to the price of the DVC discounted pass…. don’t know if that’s correct, but that’s what I was told.

It was by a cast member at the WS entrance to EPCOT where we had to go to activate my wife’s AP.

They did it before using the tickets over the phone, but I know Disneyland let's you upgrade after using them by the last day because i did that, I just dont want to give any false info im not sure how it works in person and how easy it is, but over the phone she said it was super easy and done directly with the agent with no transfers for Disney World tickets.

She said if you dont already have a ticket purchased you will be transferred to MS apparently who cannot upgrade tickets and had to kick her back to regular queue (she was quickly pushing the buttons to get to an agent which ended up taking more time 😂), but with ticket already purchased its an easy upgrade with regular ticketing, they can verify direct membership, and its not MS that you would talk to in that situation.

This sounds a little like "the CM doesn't understand this particular corner case." Did you try anywhere else?
No, because it was more of a curious inquiry. We got my wife an AP prior to arrival and everyone else got 6-day passes because we knew we were only going once this cycle.

I wanted to see how much of an extra benefit having an AP was from an entry/lounge/discount perspective.

My MK at Disneyland has a better discount than the DVC discount, but at WDW everything was basically the same if DVC-Y.

It is good to know that we could upgrade to a SP at the DVC rate if we were moved to do so….

If you try at a ticket booth or GR and are told again that you can’t upgrade a multi day ticket to a Sorcerer AP, ask politely for a supervisor. You might have been interacting with a newer CM who was confused, especially if you asked to upgrade to a “discounted” AP. They might have thought you were asking for a discount from the regular price of the Sorcerer AP, which is simply a lower-priced AP that only Florida residents and DVC members can purchase.
