What are they and how do you earn them. We are eligible for the discount rate because dh is a government worker. I see some people even get that rate reduced by using points. Just wondering......

Thanks:D

disneyFanatik~ points do not reduce the room rate. Points are by joining starwood preferred guest program - it's free. You get points by staying at Starwood properties and/or by having the Starwood Amex cc. Points give you upgrades and special promotions. Check out www.spg.com.

MomPoppins,

Good luck and best wishes to you and your family!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Luck mompoppins! You can do it and so can baby boy poppins! We'll all be thinking about you tonight and tomorrow!

Debbie

#1hockeymom ~ I see you have 11 days to go - Yippee for you. Please, please let me know all about your Swan stay. Our first Swan stay is coming soon - end of July. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

mouseteacher>> I will do that! I am so excited I can't contain myself! I know I am driving my whole family crazy! :) 7 school days left! Half day tomorrow so that we may work on report cards, I'll check in in the afternoon to hear the good news from Mompoppins!

Maybe I'll even be saying phrases like......"You won't believe the SUITE they upgraded us to!" LOL Even with our regular reservations, I am sure we'll be happy. I covered all the bases by paying for the CL... I THINK!? Poor Bob, I sent him a long email today asking him a million and one questions. This was while my head was still in report card phrases!

I will be giving a full report when we get back! I'll put my pictures up on the dis instead of geocities where I have my other websites. It seems that geocities doesn't want to share my pics on other sites anymore. The picture from my post this morning (anti avs) was of a logo for the "I hate the avalanche club". According to the website I took it from (my own, btw) it says that I illegally used it to another site away from geocities. OH NO call in the police! I used it in a chat room! It looks like we can no longer right click copy/paste and use a picture elsewhere from geocities, even if it is from your own websites. Of course, you can still right click/copy/put on your own hard drive, you just can't use their "address" to point to a picture.

Good luck again Mompoppins!

Debbie

Anxiously awaiting his arrival and prayers and hugs for a speedy and safe delivery.

Just returned from my 1st trip to the Swan a few weeks ago. It was very quiet and was disappointed when there were no upgrades available at checkin. I am an SPG member and would have used points for an upgrade, but was given a complimentary room w/view instead. (Had wanted club level). The next day I expressed displeasure with some of the things in the hotel (restaurants being closed, etc.) and was given a comp upgrade to club level, even though I was staying on another floor! It was definitely the best hotel I have stayed at on Disney property. I've stayed at Portofino Bay, Royal Pacific and all of the disney moderates, and this one was by far the best. I would stay there again next time. I also had the gov't employee rate and with the free breakfast and snacks at night, saved a lot of money on food! I think if you are told no at checkin, you should keep asking for what you want and eventually they will accommodate you. The pool was one of the best around, the food was delicious and we had the place practically to ourselves! The character dinner was great and since there were only a few other tables in the restaurant filled, we had a lot of company from the characters all night!

:p LOL! DD was 6lbs. 6 oz., and she "felt" like 60/60!! How exactly would your Dr. know how much PAIN is associated with your birth, unless he's actually BEEN there? He He. I'm with you on that one. ;) I always said with our "next" baby, I would have an epidural, and bypass the "natural" birth of DD. So....with that in mind~you'll be WITH ME in thought (good ones...to help ease the pain) all day tomorrow. :) Hugs to you and Baby Kirk. I know everything will be just fine, and your son will be welcomed by a "circle" of love and magical wishes. XO:sunny:

#1hockeymom...oops, sorry there! I could not see the AV pic, just a red X. You do NOT have much time left either...and away you go! Are you bringing a laptop? I would love to read your posts from inside the MAGIC. ;) Enjoy (Are you packed yet?) :p

disfanRN...Yes, I had BETTER begin packing. It seems I ALWAYS wait until the LAST week...and then toss the items in the bags...and GO! :p

How terrible this epidemic truly has become. Years ago, it was the WEST coast area...where the kids seemed advanced for their age. The kids here, 10 YO's, look/act/dress 20. We have some of the highest teen pregnancy rates in the nation, yet most of the men fathering these children are in their "20's". Parents wanting to be BEST FRIENDS is the biggest joke of all. Children WANT a Parent, not a buddy. They actually "thrive" in a structured environment.

We live in an upscale area, which is gated. The homes and familes are affluent, and the children are privileged (Country-Clubbers, etc.). These children are mirror-images of their folks. So, if their folks are pretentious and have a superior "above it ALL" attitude, the children exude the same. DD has some wonderful friends, but not many live in this area. "Money...doesn't buy CLASS." ;)

disneymom57...What a MAGICAL POST! At first, my heart sank...then ROSE AGAIN when I read about the "comp upgrade to Club Level!" Hooray. ;) I agree with "voicing" your concern and any disappointments you may have with ANY resort property. In offering you this accomodation (when you voiced your opinion), they have secured your favor and appreciation. You should send a "thank-you" to the resort manager, for making all your dreams come true (and leaving you with the opinion you posted here). Everyone enjoys being commended/recognized for a "job well done". Hearing from satisfied guests gives the resort management perspective, and the ability to "satisfy" future patrons in a similar manner. Thank you, for a wonderful post. I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay, and plan to return. :)

DD takes her first "Drivers Training" class tomorrow am (7:30 am). She must take 6 hours (3 2-hour classes), before she can take her license test (after she turns 16!). She already completed the drivers "education" portion of this requirement. Ohh...She's too young to be driving. Just yesterday, "I" was MOM POPPINS, and "SHE" was BABY KIRK! (LOL).

TTFN....Moi (THE ONE WHOM SHOULD BEGIN PACKING....ANY DAY NOW!). :earseek: :sunny:

I have to share with you my morning, and back up to say that I was pink slipped with about 260 other teachers in our district due to budget cuts/school closings/total mindlessness from the board over the years, (but that is another story.) I am more than ready for vacation, along with my classroom, yet packing has been bittersweet not knowing if I'll be back again. I have had a wonderful classroom this year. Manners, test scores, excitement of learning have all gone up!

This morning I walked into my room, thinking about paperwork/report cards/when and how to go about packing and I notice caution tape on many of our classroom doors. My door is also included. I read the sign posted to it and it says "Caution, no one but Mrs. W***** may teach here!" I am smiling at the lovely gesture, and wishing the school board could take a look around our school. I walk to my desk, and placed on it are a single rose, a blueberry muffin, a can of juice, and a letter stating:
"We just wanted to take a minute to tell you that we love you and we are really hoping to see you back next year! This day is in honor of you!" Love,
Your Friends at Williams-Edison

I burst into tears! I am still drying my tears but wanted to share this lovely bit of pixie dust among fellow teachers and people who realize that a bit of pixie dust makes everything seem brighter!

I will be back next year. They can't lay me off, The children need me and I need them!

Debbie

Baby Kirk.... are you here yet? *leaving my rose for the new baby and mommy!*

Happy Birthday to baby kirk, its after 7 here on the east coast but you're texas time is behind ours.

Mouseteacher hows the weather??? Poured rain all night now for our monthly total its 3.24 inches, gosh at this rate we'll have 7 inches for the month of june. Sorta glad school doesn't get out till the 24th, the ocean temp is 57 degrees now who thinks the grotto pool is chilly??

Does anyone have any dolphin renovation updates, seems like we've had a group of swan visitors lately. Well dreamflight i know you'll be there soon to get the real scoop on how things are going.

Debbie ~ :( What a wonderful story - you must be the best teacher children could have --- of course you will be back!!! It's educators like you that make our profession have a better image. :)

disnurse ~ weather!!!! ACK!!!! Whatza sun?????!!!! Although, we had our school picnic yesterday and were able to sqeak it in for about 2 hours before the rain came.

DF ~ You are such a special person and mom - your values for your family come through loud and clear. And in addition, you chose Catholic education for DD. :)

thinking healthy labor vibes for Mom Poppins {{hugs}}

Just doing the happy dance here.....

my GOLD card arrived in the mail yesterday, I booked the airfare this morning, and was able to exrend my rental car through National for a day without the fare going sky-high :) :) :) looks like we are all set!

I was a little (ok, a LOT....) nervous last week. it looked as if my middle son's school was going to a tuition system and we would have to shell out $$$ for tuition this fall that we hadn't planned on spending. thankfully, the school board approved a "phase in" for the existing families. It was a nail-biter down to the last minute!

Hockeymom, I'm sorry you got the pick-slip....it's such a shame. we need teachers desperately in KY, but really can't afford to pay them well at all. Hopefully things will work out!

off to look for the SUN--32 of the last 44 days have been rainy :(

The CKU Scrapbook convention at Coronado Springs was wonderful ... lots of fun and tons of scrapbooking supplies!!! The CSR is a beautiful property.:D Lots of rain on this trip and it was warm and very MUGGY. Very Florida weather!

Now my DD5 and I are eagerly anticipating our trip Monday to the Dolphin! We can't wait! (I am hoping for less rain.);)

Can't wait to hear about baby Kirk ... hope he arrived healthy and happy! (And ready to visit WDW in the near future!).

KelliR - Aren't back to back trips to the world fun? You didn't have to get sad when you left because you knew you'd be back soon. Were you able to park hop or were you cutting and cropping all the time? :D How did you find out about the conference? (sorry......too many questions)

Debbie - I hope you get to stay put! I was tearing up at your description of your classroom.

Dreamflight - my ds(14) will be driving in about a year and a half (need to be 16 here) At first, I was dreading it. Now, I think it will be helpful with his younger brother who will just be getting into after school activites by then. Of course, with three of them playing sports, I spend a lot of time in my mommy van. (or my loser cruiser.......as my dd calls it!) Luckily, we have a DVD player in it.......so my youngest and I sometimes watch movies while they practice since their practice field is 20 minutes from where we live......No sense in driving home. I look at my youngest, who just graduated from Kindergarten, and I remember when my oldest was that age. It seems like yesterday.

My older kids are still in school. They have a few half days this week and next. Well, can you really call 8:30 - 10:45 a half day? I'll be glad when tomorrow is over since their regular exams will be done. DS takes a Spanish State Exam next week though........But, as it won't count as a grade, he won't be too stressed about it.

I keep checking the airlines for a deal to MCO. I have an AP burning a hole in my pocket and a small SWA credit. But, the AP will probably expire before I go back. Oh well, I have the memories of 3 trips this past year to keep me going until I return.

I did get to EPCOT to see the Flower & Garden Festival. Other than that, I was cutting and cropping like crazy! Plus, I knew I'd get to the other parks next week ... back to back trips to WDW are the greatest! :teeth: I'm doing my best to keep Southwest airlines thriving!!!:D

Just checking in to send warm wishes to you all. I have enjoyed reading the recent posts about "end of year" activities - it brings back such great memories! I am not a parent (still the "baby" of my family!) but I do have a fondness for that "school's out" fever that takes flight this time every year!

Mom Poppins, hope all is well with you and your family: You all are in my thoughts.

Debbie: What a wonderful influence you must be on both your pupils and your coworkers, to have had such a tribute this morning! I am heartened by your positive attitude (you WILL be back!) Your classroom must be a sight to behold!

To everyone heading to the Magic soon, have a wonderful trip!

I must add, I have had several dealings with the S/D reservationists lately (making upcoming reservations for December and the marathon weekend!!) and am constantly amazed at how pleasant and helpful they are. I hang up the phone with a smile on my face, thinking to myself "I am SOOOOO glad I tried this place!!!"

Of course, I owe that smile to you "regulars" who have sold me on the joys of the S/D! Thanks again!!

Did Mom Poppins put someone in charge of logging in and posting about baby Kirk? I hope so.

I've read some really great ideas here for next year's graduation. You've inspired me and I'm going to be on the lookout for "those special moments" during all next school year that I can photograph and save for a power point or something!

Working in a school may not pay a bundle but it's a blessing like none other.

I am wondering the same thing? I hope Mom Poppins put someone in charge of posting an update on the DIS (FOR US!)! DH? Oldest DD? Anyone? Dr. whom asserted pain would be brief and minimal? (LOL). If you read this....please let Mom Poppins know she was my "first thought" this am as I awakened and opened my eyes (after thanking Dear God for one more day on this glorious planet, and being able to see/hear/taste/feel/speak and LOVE everyone in my life!). ;)
Sending WARM WISHES your way...for a SPECIAL introduction to the "NEW (little) MAN" in your life! :)

#1hockeymom...Your post brought tears to my eyes. :( I believe everything in life happens for a specific reason. When one door closes, another door opens. Keep your eyes and heart open...for the special door. You'll find it...and everything will all make perfect sense. ;) We could always use you in Catholic education. You are, undoubtedly, a very gifted and wonderful educator...valued by peers, parents and students. Thank you, for the enlightening post. Keep smiling, your rainbow is just behind the little rain cloud.

disnurse...I'll be sure to post an update (w/photos) as soon as I arrive in the Dolphin! My timer is rapidly diminishing...and I get "jittery" with excitement as soon as I devote a moment to the thought of beginning the journey.

Mouseteacher...You always say the kindest things. ;) I try my best to instill the values and lessons I learned from my "Bostonian" mom (a Double for Emily Post...LOL, a "traditional Pilgrim"...Plymouth Rock...etc.!). Eeek!  Did I just openly admit to "becoming my mother?" He He...it is something to aspire to in my case. She is a one in a zillion, a true treasure. ;)
*As for Catholic education...Your post just reminded me to pay DD's tuition before leaving for vacation. (Thanks!). I pay it in FULL each year, and save $100! It's certainly better than a sharp stick in the eye. DD's report card arrived today. I do not wish to boast, but want to inform you (as an educator/admin) of her status with respect to the question which follows.

DD received all "A+'S", with one "B+" in French honors (which is an A+ in actuality). She had four honors courses total, so her GPA is well above a 4.0. She is pleased with herself (tickled pink!), and can "relax" for the SUMMA. I'm so proud of her....catholic H.S. prep/honors courses are no "walk in the park". She makes a LOT of sacrifices (social...mostly) throughout the year to achieve her marks. My sister suggested I give her $$$ for her "A's"? I was taken aback by the suggestion. I have never done this...and believe academic achievements are their OWN just reward. Satisfaction of the achievement itself, is worth more than any monetary gift. At least this is my CORE/GUT instinct. What do you think? (I value your opinion). Thanks for your take on this issue. ;)

madge...Wow, glad you were able to $ave some $$ this time around (on the school situation). Is this a public school, attempting to go private? Hooray on your plans for travel being solidified! You are all set. I know the feeling, it's a DOOZEY! :smooth: Enjoy.

KelliR...So glad to read the CKU trip went as planned (in spite of the rain). I've heard/read the CSR is a great MOD resort. Our friends stayed there a couple of years ago...and LOVED it. Now, you're off with DD to the Dolphin. You do not need to pack again...(lucky you!), just wash/fold and GO! :p I wish you both a memorable and MAGICAL stay. ;)

marymrg..."loser cruiser"? (LOL)...that's a new one for me! Aren't kids the BEST? He He. We have a DVD in our Expedition too. They are fun, eh? Our truck is more of an "Urban assault vehicle", (AS DD asserts :p) & certainly looks ominous enough to be one (yet...It's just me driving it~LOL). It's Black, with full LIMO tint on all windows, and a full black WAAG grill and rear light covers. It's a 4X4 EB model, yet I've NEVER taken it off-road. It's nice and plush inside with soft Grey (special order) glove leather, and very fun to drive. My DD Loves/prefers my vintage Red Stingray....but w/o airbags (which I intend to have installed sometime), I will not permit her to drive this car. She still desires a VW bug for her "own" vehicle. I enjoyed the test drive SO MUCH, I offered a TRADE with the Truck (when she acquired the bug). NO WAY...she would not go for that! :p
* I hope you are able to find something to MCO, and use the AP's. It's the BEST reason to justify a return to the parks..otherwise, you are letting these go to waste. I'll keep my fingers crossed, and let you know if I see/hear of any low fares. What AP are you departing from? :)

crc6...Your post is a joy to read! (Baby of the family~;) ) I'm so pleased you enjoy the planning and interaction with regards to the Swan/Dolphin and staff. I do the same, and smile "ear to ear" each time I finish a conversation with one of these associates. They obviously enjoy working for Starwood, and these two fine properties. :) BTW...you are now considered to be ONE of the "REGULARS" here on our humble thread! Welcome to the Club.

simonmunro...."Working in a school may not pay a bundle but it's a blessing like none other." ;) Ditto. I, for one, sing the praises of ALL teachers/School administrators. They are the very essence of our future. The unsung heroes of tomorrow. Thank you...Thank you...Thank you, for ALL you continue to do for ALL of our children. :sunny:

*It was a rough day today. DD was up all night with an earache, and still insisted on completing her initial lesson with her driving trainer/instructor (she frowns on cancelling ANYTHING!...LOL). She actually had "four" hours of sleep. She drove for two hours, came home and went to the Doctor's office for a diagnosis and meds. Swimmer's ear...ugh. She was in a lot of pain, and he placed some drops (w/lidocaine) in her ear for immediate relief. He wrote her prescrips for Trimox 500 MG, and Floxin Otic Ear Drops. She is sleeping soundly as I write. I suggested she cancel her appt. for the Wisdom teeth (all four) extraction on Sat. AM, but she wants to go through with this too. I'll see how she feels tomorrow. :(

Hope all of you are enjoying the week! Summer is here in FULL SWING. Butter/Dragon flies are all over the yard. Although Autumn is my Favorite Season...I DO enjoy the SUMMA. ;)

TTFN....
