NEW...DOLPHIN/SWAN..."questions and answers"...tips and hints!

Df - And I thought I stood out when I ask for "Soda" instead of "Pop".....coming from a different part of NY :D

Bimmy - not trying to push the DC card, but if you plan on renting a car, the cheapest rates I have found are at National, using the old DC code and their coupon. Plus, you would only have to pay about half of the membership fee since there is only about 6 months left until it ends. Of course, your AP gives you a lot of discounts too. I like the magazine, so that, in addition to the rental card discount, is how I justified my renewal. I'm also an AP holder.

hey new look the the boards pretty neat!!

The boards look marvelous........maybe the tag fairy will make a visit here soon! I believe in magic, I belong :)

Thanks, Think I can swing a Pizza or Two with that discount .. I second the DC discount with national + coupon ( i have an intermidate or midsize for 9 days for $156.94 w/ taxes and stuff included.. ) Michelle

Thanks for the good thoughts Mary, but we're not renting a car and I already renewed my Disney Magazine for 2 years ($10 I think - I got a renewal letter last month when my card expired)
Where are you from? I lived in NT until I got married? Great Place!!
Since I am only going with my DD, the discount for 1 or 2 trips to Tubbi's wouldn't be worth the bother of renewing. We're only spending 2 days at the Swan, although we usually stay there the entire trip, this time we're trying something a little different and spending 2 nights at WL and 2 at GF.

....everyone has a Buffalo connection :D I live in the town of Boston, near Orchard Park........not to be confused with DF's big city of Boston! I moved here for graduate school......and the rest is history;) My older kids occasionally play travel soccer in NT and when I was pregnant with son#1, I fainted there!! Also, a few years ago my friends and I saw "Carrot Top" at Melody Fair.. (you know - the red headed guy from the call 1-800 collect commercials) What a riot! I know, more than anyone needed to know, right?

Have fun on your trip! I'm sure you'll love all the places that you are staying. They're a little bit of all that Disney has to offer.

The boards look great! I also love the fireworks above the picture of the Dolphin (in the advertisement). ;)

Marymrg....Ever hear of "Horseheads"? :) Soda...instead of pop (LOL), also "SUPPA" instead of DINNA! Dinna was always served on Sunday Afternoon (around one-ish), and SUPPA is served every eve! Folks out here would be like "fish out of WADA" in the East. ;)

Have to begin "organizing" for the trip. Pleasurable work (oxymoron?). :p

TTFN...

I am laughing at all of these posts. I was born in Michigan, grew up in the same county I live in currently, yet everyone always has said "Where are you from?" "What is that accent?" My mother is from Grand Island, New York and her side of the family is from various locations, New York. I think I am the only Michigander that says Bastin, nyork, and buflo!

My count down clock is going down! 12 more *school* days for me! (Only 7 more for my "personal gave birth to" children!

Love the new boards!

Debbie

All of these inflections/colloquialisms/accents/etc., keep me TIED to the EAST! I laugh inside as I hear myself speak them. I thought of one last eve, as we shucked-corn. SHUCKERS, were what the coastals called the CLAMS/OYSTERS (& l'il pi--ers, two ss's in there!), etc. So funny. :p

DD and I had a great walk in the mall (each lap is a mile). We did two+ ...before she dropped $175 on Zoppini charms as a "gift" to herself. She uses her own money, and has not bought any charms since Christmas (she reminded me). She bought six, and is very pleased with the "grotto" she selected.

We played Volleyball in the pool awhile, then relaxed in the SUMMER sunshine. We chatted about the Dolphin, WDW...and all the things we'll do/see. I must say it again....the JOURNEY, is as much fun as the destination. ;)

JUNE is officially "kicking-in".

Hockeymom......don't forget "Tronto"

DF - is that near Painted Post/Binghamton?
I am going to housesit for you while you are at the Dolphin. My pool will never warm up this year, let alone get cleaned!

Come on Hot weather, where are you? We are at least a month behind.......maybe more.

Zoppini........my dd (13) likes those too. She has a watch and a bracelet, I think!

DS is saving his money for a paintball gun.........I'm not sure how I feel about that purchase. But, he went on his 8th grade class trip today to Cleveland.........so I expect he spent all of his savings at the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. I'm sure it wasn't for books from the Science Center;) That would be dh's (chaperone for the trip) purchase!

In the meantime,,,,,,,,,I bought some more DVC points today for Vero. Call me crazy........it helps me dream of next year's vacation.

:p I have been at the hospital all day with contractions... they finally stopped and they sent me back home tonight. The doctors have made a joint decision not to do the amnio on Monday as planned, but to deliver the baby a week from tomorrow with no amnio. I have to be at the hospital at 7:30 a.m. and will be induced.... So baby Kirk's birthday is set for June 12th. unless he chooses to make an early arrival between now and then.... Thanks again for all your thoughts and prayers... He currently weighs 3 pounds and 7 oz. and has the hiccups as I write :p

Oh MomPoppins - it is so good to see you posting - i have been following your "baby Kirk " adventures and now that he has an official "well almost" official birth day, we have cause to celebrate!!! You are in our prayers, have had 2 inductions and they are now 22 and 25 - were small but hardy!! The girls must be so thrilled too - a baby brother to dote on very soon. Looking forward to see ing you post again before Kirk arrives.

DF - you have less than a month now- how exciting! Looking forward to all the new adventures you'll all have - complete with pictures this year. Caroline

Wanted to send pixie dust and prayers to baby and family. All the best!!

we are taking a very last minute vacation!! Can't take the weather here any longer!!!!!!!!!my dh was disneyed out a couple of years ago after a july visit with 3 kids and said never again!!well we were only going to go to us and ioa this time(fotl was too good to pass up as well as great rates for flights and the pbh) i dont even know how i fell onto this site but i caught du's rates for the dolphin and we are now splitting the trip! i have booked 3 nites at the dolphin for standard. limited view blah blah blah--after reading through all of these posts twice i am now convinced we should stay at cl--i am able to get cl for about $50 more per nite (two rooms 4 adults and 3 kids but we are paying for all)is it worth it? as recommended i have joined starwood but have no points--reservations online already state "upgrade at hotel's discretion" should i spend the extra $300 for club for the two rooms or should i take may chances at check-in? also just wanted to let you know--i have learned sooo much on these boards--cant wait to get to the dolphin--we will be there in july-cant wait for the heat and humidity!!!!!!!!!!!!

needabreak ~ LOL your name should be mine, too!!! This Boston weather is DEPRESSING!!!! We too are are getting away in late July with an unexpected visit to the Swan. I would suggest that if CL appeals to you and you can afford the extra $ -- go for it. It is certainly convenient for breakfast. We loved it.

DF ~ "pahk the cah" "Hahvahd Univeristy" "suppa" is definitely every night except Sunday. Tonic not soda. Subs not grinders.

School has been very busy! We had the 8th grade Class Night last night and they graduate with a beautiful Mass and ceremony on Friday night. The children have been with us for 9 years (they are very much like family to all on staff) --- we have given them wings so they can now fly onto their next educational phase - high school. School ends next Friday for the other classes.

Mompoppins.......you and Kirk continue to be in my prayers. Keep drinking lots of water!

Mouseteacher - as the mother of a Catholic School 8th grader, I am in tears reading what you wrote. Although my son is ready for High School, it is a little scary for all of us. (he's our oldest) He doesn't graduate until the 18th.......so a few more exams and a lot of half days to go. My other ds graduates from Kindergarten tomorrow. All of my kids had the same K teacher. Older son's class is her first to graduate! Thanks for all you do and for all of the dedicated teachers out there.

Needabreak - I loved the CL. If you follow the "afternoon break" plan, you would most likely be able to take advantage of the afternoon snack as well. (make later PS's) You're probably not going to break even, but sometimes having a little luxury on vacation is worth it. If you really want it, book it ahead. If not, you'll take your chances for an upgrade and might not get the same deal when you check in. (or maybe they'll comp one and you'll upgrade for the other??) Make sure you come back and tell us how your stay was! You will love the heavenly beds :D

Hi everyone!

MomPoppins: We'll be at the Swan when Kirk makes his big appearance, so I'll wish you a safe and speedy delivery! :D

And yes, I discovered that I'm pregnant! We've been trying for over a year and a half for a sibling for DS3, with no luck. We were so tired of putting our lives on hold, that we decided to go ahead and book this Disney vacation, and BOOM! Pregnant! I was actually supposed to be at the RE's today to do all the preliminary stuff to start IVF when we come back, so hopefully this little guy/gal will stick and I won't have to go through with that!

I'm a little worried about flying, and Test Track, Space Mountain, etc., are definitely out, but that's a sacrifice I'm more than willing to make. ;)

I have a question about the buses from the Swan to the Parks: In what order do they pick up guests? (i.e. are Swan guests first, last or somewhere in the middle)

Haven't packed a thing, so I must go. Thanks for all your help so far!

Congrats Athena! And prayers for you that all will go well. I think the Swan is the first to be picked up and dropped off. But, then you go to Dolphin, Yacht Club and then Beach Club. So, if you need to be somewhere, plan extra time. I think it took us almost a half hour to get to Magic Kingdom one evening.

Congrats to Athena and best wishes to both her and mompoppins on successful deliveries!

Does anyone know if you can add-on the silver plan to "currently" room only reservations? I know that I would then have to buy my tickets, too, so that isn't a problem. I am using DU.

Debbie

Hi everyone- I am much more of a lurker here, but will try to do better!

I was wondering, with all you ladies who have children, if you have any suggestions for special things to have in the room for my DD8 when we stay at the Dolphin in October. I have always tried to make our trips special, and it was easier when she was younger, disney story books, I would sew outfits with cinderella and snow white material. Now she is reading novels and would probably enjoy her own clothes more, I would love some fun ideas!

Mompoppins- I will say a prayer to St. Gerard for the safe delivery of you and baby Kirk, I am a labor and delivery RN so I have seen lots of healthy early births!

Congratulations Athena-how exciting!

#1 hockeymom- we could be neighbors! We are also in the suburbs north of Detroit!

Thanks for all your help everyone, I've picked up so much good info here, SPG Gold!!! I know it will make our upcoming trips to the Dolphin fabulous!!!:Pinkbounc
