NEW...DOLPHIN/SWAN..."questions and answers"...tips and hints!

There are lots of Disney charms if she has a charm bracelet. Does she like to do crafts? Maybe you could send a box ahead of time which will be delivered when you get there. You could include some Disney Jammies sent with a little special stuffed animal. Or, put a water camera or regular camera in it (disposable kind), a journal and/or scrapbooking items.

Since she likes to read, you could also order one of those "series type" novels from Amazon.

Also, have room service delievered one evening.........my kids like that. (can be snacks if you prefer)

I had Landsend send some water shoes when we stayed at the BCV. My daughter was surprised. It was more of a necessity though....since she had grown out of hers.

Please excuse me if this has been asked already (I'd do a search for it if I could...)

I am becoming a teacher next year and I want to take advantage of the great rate. DH and I will be at WDW for 5 nights early next June. My parents and two younger brothers (18 and 11) will probably join us for the first 3 nights. They are pretty much Disney newbies.

Which do you prefer, the Swan or Dolphin? I am guessing by then the Dolphin rooms will be re-done, otherwise I'd ick the Swan for sure. I have been looling at maps and I am having a hard time getting straight on how things are oriented (the location of the S/D in relation to the parks)

Thanks!

Mompoppins - well June 12 is my father's 75 birthday and he certainly is one of the greatest men I have even known (even though I am a bit partial ;)) so I am sure baby Kirk has great things in store for him!!

Athena- congrats on your news. I was pg during one of our WDW vacations and so I know what you mean - but at least you have an excuse to PIG OUT!!!

I am still debating about switching our res's from the Dolphin to the Swan - oh well at this point I guess either one will be great

DF- OOHHHH! Almost to the "top 20" countdown on your timer!!!!

Is the room service very expensive at the Swan ? I was thinking of treating myself and kids but would like to be a bit prepared . ( is it from Tubbi's or one of the other restraunts ? ) Thanks Michelle

Congratulations to MOM POPPINS & ATHENA!!

Wow...this thread is full of EXCITING POSTS!

Baby Kirk...DUE 06/12/03:

Sun in Gemini MAY22-JUNE21 Your child's SUN SIGN:

Gemini - "I think"

Quick witted, curious, and communicative. Gemini, ruled by the Roman messenger God, Mercury - is associated with communications, Mercury is the magician... Mercury is the jester... The Sun in the element of air.... stimulated mentally, detached perspective.... Motivated and recharged by intellectual concepts, social interchanges and the communication of ideas and/or ideals.... In Gemini, the element of air (barring other factors) tends to produce a fairly active mind. The world is approached with reason and everything (everyone) is open to analysis. They wil "question, question, question," everything!

Gemini’s quick-witted mutable energy may at times appear to others as being scattered, disorganized and chaotic. But there’s usually method to Gemini’s madness! (Although, truthfully, sometimes even Gemini’s constantly active right hand doesn’t know what his/her constantly moving left hand is up to.) Gemini may also have a humorous tendency to "bend" the truth at times.

Gemini children generally want to learn how to talk as soon as possible. And once they get started? Watch out! Gemini is curious, communicative, versatile and talkative. Curious, curious, curious.... I’ll say it one more time - curious. Gemini energy loves to know how things work. And Gemini energy thrives on knowing what makes other people tick. And when curiosity gets the better of Gemini energy, Gemini might say scandalous, shocking things or perform outrageous acts for no other purpose or reason than Gemini was curious and wanted to see what would happen. a Gemini child's moods can change quickly. If unhappy or sad, give them something new and interesting to do and they'll soon be a happy camper again. :)

My adventures for the summer PALE in comparison to yours, (M. Poppins). I wish you a WONDERFUL JOURNEY through the birth and arrival of "Baby Kirk". Savor every moment...and place them all in long-term memory. Whisper "hello" for me. :) This time passed more quickly than it seemed...and the time is VERY NEAR.
I'll be awaiting the arrival of this new addition, and praying all goes smoothly/perfectly.
;)

I just know that one of you will know the answer to this question. My family and I are Disney Club members and will be at the Swan in July. It is our intention to purchase annual passes. THe info. on the D/C website is a bit confusing. It makes it sound like the $15 savings is only available in advance but the fine print leads you to believe that the Disney Club savings are also available at the theme park gates. I phoned Disney for a better understanding and was told that the discount is only on advance purchases. I was told that since we could purchase our a/p's at the Swan, that was considered in advance of the gate, therefore the Disney CLub discount would be given. At first glance, a $15 discount doesn't sound like much, but X3 it would actually pay for a lunch. Has anyone received the D/C discount at the desk in the Swan?

I have two questions to ask here

1. Is there a way when search is working to search just within this thread? It's too big to re-read all posts each time something specific comes up that you KNOW you read here.

2. There were some posts by a lady whose little child was suffering hearing loss. I've not seen anything recently and was just hoping their family is doing well.

3. Just to keep on topic we recently returned from 8 nights at the BEAUTIFUL SWAN!!! Everything was super special. For the past 11 years we've only stayed at the Dolphin, but this was a girls only trip (loads of fun) with Aunts, Cousins and Daughters. We decided to try for a "girly setting". We had wonderful service, attentive housekeeping, turndown was GREAT, the place is spotless and as you've all stated nearly unamiously THOSE BEDS!! are amazing.

RAV - I would purchase them at the Disney Store ahead of time. I believe they are not activated until you register them at the Park. Maybe Dreamflight knows if the Swan/Dolphin can honor the discount but I would rather be safe than sorry. One thing I found out that the Disney Store at MCO doesn't give any DC discount on passes. They are not considered an advance purchase there. I thought that was strange and went to the Kissimmee Walmart and purchased my husband's 7 day hopper there instead. On that trip, we had 2 AP's, 2-5 day hoppers purchased through Connections and then the 7 day. (was supposed to be a 5 day with 4 options but dh wanted to get more days at the last minute) Check Mousesavers........there might be more pass info. there.

Congratulations Athena!!!

" There were some posts by a lady whose little child was suffering hearing loss. I've not seen anything recently and was just hoping their family is doing well."

It's me that has the little girl with the progressive hearing loss, Rachel she is doing great!!! The first month after getting the diagnosis were the hardest. You grieve over the loss she has and are concerned about the loss she will get. We have prayed and prayed about it and its out of our hands. She is such a trooper... sometimes I hear her mention to her sisters "someday I will not be able to hear the birds singing or Mommy talking to me", I just know that as she looses her hearing down deep in her heart she will remember my voice and know how much I truly love her!!!!

Its been a tough year finding out about her progessive loss and then with the tough times with baby Kirk. Somehow we have made it through with God's help, I appreciate all of you for your good wishes and feel as if I know you even though we have never met.... I am hoping for good times ahead starting with the arrival of our precious bundle next week. I think of the day I was told he was not going to make it, by not just 1 doctor but 3 doctors. Daddy Kirk and I crying together and talking about still giving him his name, since he is our first son. We have came so far from that morning. Its been 12 weeks since then, and here we are still pregnant!!!!! What a blessing and a true "miracle". My doctor told me the other day, he thinks that term is overused but in my case I need to believe this baby is a real miracle! Thanks again for all of your support and prayers.... Hugs, Robin

Thank you MOM POPPINS for the update on your family. I don't know why I didn't remember that it was you. I'm going to have to go back 12 weeks and read about your journey. It sounds like the Lord was with you through the entire ordeal, that SURE HELPS. Am I right that baby Kirk is your only son? I'll add you to our prayers and brave little Rachel also.

A few years ago I suffered through a virus that did some hearing damage. My ears were plugged up and muffly and I felt like I was going to go crazy... Everyone's got a phobia I guess and apparently that is mine.

Now, so I don't get "time out", ABOUT THAT SWAN/DOLPHIN! The laundry room was down for repair for a few days last week during our stay. Was it a problem? NO, they bundled us up in a beautiful town car and dropped us off (with a return transportation ticket) at a neighboring resort. I've never felt so "pretty" holding a dirty clothes bag!!!!!!

LOL...now, simonmunro~that's my idea of FUN! I hope the machines are broken when I'm there. I would like to use the facilities at the GF! (walking in w/bag of dirty laundry...lol). About 99.9% of the time we are on our extended sojourn, either DH does the laundry (LATE in the eve/early am), or we pay to have it cleaned. It's one of those tasks I despise at home, as it is never-ending! :p If I could only FINISH it....for once. :rolleyes:

Thanks again, Robin, for the update on your situation and experience. God never gives you MORE than you are capable of handling. Therefore...this too shall pass. All will be well, and you will be a better person for your struggle, tenacity and faith. You and Daddy Kirk held onto your convictions, even when "3" doctors told you there was no "hope". You remained the beacon of light for Baby Kirk...keeping him "safe & sound". He thrived...and will be a JOY to BEHOLD on the 12th! Keep smiling. :)

Rav....the Swan/Dolphin honors the DC, and will give you the discount (it's where we purchased ours last summer). marymrg is correct about MCO! That is not the place to obtain passes if you desire a discount. You may also purchase passes (using DC discount) at ANY guest services window at ANY WDW Theme park. Enjoy!;)

marymrg...funny you mention Disney Charms, as we both have bracelets with all the charms available! We both have numerous Zoppini Disney charms...which I think are absolutely adorable! My favorite is the pumpkin coach! I love the castle too:

Dallas_Lady...The Dolphin. Yet, it's strictly a Personal Preference. The Swan and Dolphin are located within walking distance to MGM & EPCOT. :)

hookedup...HOORAY!!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

disfanRN..WELCOME (Former Lurker)! :wave: I think marymrg offered some wonderful ideas! If she enjoys collecting at all, she may be surprised with a Lanyard and a couple pins (then, she could purchase a couple more in the parks. DD and I have loads of these, and enjoy the time shared looking for ones we want to add to our collection. :cool:

#1hockeymom...I'm pretty sure you can! Call and add it asap. I've used these plans over the years, and have always enjoyed them. :)

Mousekeeper...sorry about the horrible weather in Boston! Have a tonic (oh, do I REMEMBER these!), and sit under the shade trees...just relax. :cool: You'll be at the SWAN in NO TIME! ;)

marymg ~ Thanks for the kind and supportive words for teachers. I know there is good and bad in every profession but I am very proud of mine and feel great fulfillment in the work I do. After all, I have the future in my hands.

Athena ~ Congrats!

MomPoppins ~ :) I, too, remembered about your DD but forgot it was you. Thanks for the update on your sweet Rachel and on baby Kirk. Prayers are a powerful weapon ---- for the good.

Dallas_Lady ~ There is the YC/BC, then Dolphin, then Swan and around the bend is Boardwalk. These resorts are on the lake in a sort of circle. Epcot and MGM are in walking distance.

HERE I IS... We returned home over the weekend and are slowly, crawling (yawn) through the first week back. I'm hoping to get the rest of the photos downloaded/uploaded to share over the weekend.

AHH, God bless ya Motha, Dreamflight (sounds like mine) LOL - the B&M brown bread in the can, baked beans and dogs were the "Saddadee" night staple! ;)

Speaking of the King's English, here's a few more doozies: :p Admit it Bostonians, we have all said these a "gazillion" times.

The Vinyihd = An Island of the Cape (Cod)

Ahnt = Your uncle's wife

Cah = Car or "take the next cah to Nawth Station and get off at Haymahket."

Westa Wusta = West of Worcester

Whole 'notha = a complete replacement, e.g., "I got a whole 'notha computah on my desk now." LOL

Spa = a luncheonette or ma & pop convenience store, e.g., The Melrose Spa in Arlington. Store 24's are never spas!

Shoe-ah = sure. "Wanna go down the Cape this weekend?" "Shoe-ah!"

B'daydahs = potatos :teeth:

Hoodsie = Hood Ice cream cup w/attached wooden spoon, half chocolate, half vanilla.

Cawna = Corner

So don't I = An classic example of the Boston negative/positive. Used like this: "I just love the food at Kelly's." "Yuh, so don't I." LOL...

American Chopsuey = has nothing to do with Chinese food. This is "goolash" in other states. Cooked ground hamburger, onions, tomato sauce, elbow pasta (in the bare essential form).

Ya Huh! = reply to no suh!

Townie = resident of Charlestown
Southie = South Boston
Eastie = East Boston
Rozzie = Roslindale
Dot = Dorchester
Medford = Meffa or Mef (DF's original stompin' grounds)

and last but certainly not least:

brar = bra
sofer = sofa
Atlanter = Atlanta
Liser = Lisa (hehe)

Always add an "R" when it's not needed!!!

Hope this helps students...

:crazy: :tongue: :teeth:

Hi all.......mompoppins......so good to hear from you. June 12 is soo close. Wow, I can't imagine going through it again! I am happy for you, however! Also glad to hear that Rachel is doing well. Think how great your WDW trip will be in 2004! All seven of you!

Athena....congrats to you! I remember going through all that, thinking I couldn't conceive....then wa-la, just before the Dr. put me on a pill!

bigsis........room service is such a treat! My dh still talks about that when we had it at the Poly one time....had breakfast and sat on the balcony which looked at the castle! Ahhh.

Went shopping today with dd! Came home with more than we went for! As usual! Ha.

At any time of year, you are sure to find something to do in Boston: in the winter you can skate outdoors on the Frog Pond; in the summer take a ride in a Swan Boat; in the Fall, marvel at the colors of the leaves on the trees, and in the spring, take a stroll through the Boston Common and check out the beautiful flowers in the garden. Boston is comprised of many small neighborhoods and and I recommend that you venture outside of the “city” to see them: Cambridge, Back Bay, South End, North End, Somerville, Beacon Hill, South Boston…to name a few. It's a pretty cultural city, and there are many great ethnic restaurants in town, as well as some really good local spots. As far as accommodations go, I’ve never stayed at any of the hotels, as I live here, but I do know that they can be quite expensive if you choose to stay right in the middle of things. I’ve included some info on some of the more popular hotels that are in prime locations (prices start around $130/night – but always ask if they have any promotional rates!).

Quick tips/suggestions
If you don’t have much time, and want to see as much of the city as you can in less than 2 hours, take a Duck Tour. The “Duck” is a boat-shaped vehicle that goes on land as well as in the water. Boston Duck Tours (by Chuck73)

;)

Ozzie....*Thanks for the wonderful pictures of the WORLD! I'm PSYCHED as it is...and these pics have me on EDGE. You're the BEST. Thanks...;)

Mouseteacher...I had no idea you were from my original "NECK of the WOODS!" Are you a true-blue N.E.er, or a transplant?
:wave:

*DD drove me around town, after our 2m walk in the mall this am. She took me by the bank/post office and starbucks. I just have trouble looking at her, and not seeing the little bit of plastic diaper sticking out of the top of her baby osh kosh pants, or "gums" where all her teeth are...or thin wispy hair in place of her thick mature locks...LOL! Does anyone else do this? :confused: :cool:

DS lives in Medford! Hails from Tufts and never left! Love, love Boston. As many times as I have visited that wondeful city I just never get enough of it. I am enjoying all the Boston banter.

MomPoppins, Sending prayers and pixie dust that all will go well next week for you.

Ozzie and Mouseteacher, so glad school is out and the vacation begins! Have fun! Safe travels!

DF, I know all about kids growing up right before your eyes. Almost overnight! It is hard for me to believe that my DS is 24 and gone (but only in Medford) He was our only one for 11 years. Seems like yesterday DH was teaching him to drive. DD is 13 and time is passing all to fast with her too. Oh yes, I know exactly what you mean....

Muffy

Prayers and thoughts to baby kirk, your family has certainly endured alot this year.
