New Disney Ships: News, Rumors, Speculation.....and Names!

I don't think there'll be many packages that include theme parks in the area. Bit too niche to be worth marketing and selling it.

Exactly. Disney has a ton of Asian fans, but the majority of them will be booking the cruise for the cruise experience. Catering to visitors from other continents will rank lower priority. They're not going to formulate these "wishful thinking" itineraries or packages because some American Disney die-hards want the whole Asian Disney Parks experience at once.

There are also other considerations to take into account. All three parks in the region are relatively close to the cruise terminals, around 35-40 minutes. However, assuming most guests would partake in the parks were it offered, it would be a huge undertaking getting 5,000 to 6,000 people transported in any efficient manner. HKDL in particular is quite small and 6,000 extra guests would absolutely make a difference in the experience.

Someone elsewhere in Social Media Land said they want an itinerary that also crosses the Pacific with a day at Aulani. I don't think they fully thought that through.

Where that might work is if Disney chartered a smaller ship like the new Ritz Carlton and did a couple of special itineraries like that, with the assumption that a smaller ship can dock closer to the parks.

Could probably be run under the Adventures By Disney banner.

Not everyone is going to go to HKDL. Same for Port C cruises -- not everyone books an orlando WDW with a DLC.

I would absolutely believe people in Asia coming out of Singapore would be interested in a HK port call.

There are reports in German media about financial difficulties for Meyer Werft. They are short of 2.8 billion Euros (in case anyone knows how German numbers work, it’s 2.8 Milliarden). They are laying off 400 people to save money. It’s being said it’s mainly designers and office staff, so shouldn‘t affect the construction much.

The issue is a cash flow problem still stemming from pandemic as ship builders only get a 20% advance payment, the rest of 80% isn’t due until delivery. So the slow down during pandemic means money is missing now to build the ships on the book now.

I wonder if they'll adjust the payment plans moving forward. In low/no interest rate environments it isn't difficult to securitize/sell the receivables and only be out a nominal amount of interest. However, nobody wants to pay 6-8% interest on billions of Euros of receivables that won't materialize for 1-2 years

This actually sounds really cool. Of course, it's marketing's job to make things sound good, lol. But it seems exciting.
I wonder what the "all new adventure" re: Marvel is all about.
I feel like it will probably be something like a new "mission" for the Marvel restaurant, an interactive thing on your phone, or something rather bland like that, but I would love to be surprised by some kind of actual experience. I don't see them putting something necessarily like Carnivals "Bolt" roller coaster, but if it is anything beyond my relatively low expectations, I'll be happy. Just seems that here lately, most of what Disney has done has been kind of lackluster in the innovation and theming, so I'm keeping my expectations in check.

I don't think that'll change much because the shipyards can't take on that much risk either, so they can't lower deposit amounts. If a cruise operator cancels an order, they don't have much they can do with a partially built ship. Yes, there are sometimes buyers like Disney that come along, but it appears that the Genting Dream sold for a fraction of the original cost, so I assume the shipbuilder had to eat some cost in that process?

But maybe some folks with industry experience could speak to the financing model before ZIRP.

Oh I meant that they may require a larger down payment or some kind of “progress payment” schedule. I’ve worked on large engineering projects before (not cruise ships unfortunately) where there were payments made based on set milestones. This might make the cruise lines balk though.

3-4 night itineraries - to me that would suggest cruises from Singapore to Malaysia/Thailand (based on other 3-4 night itineraries on cruises out of Singapore - Royal Caribbean does Penang/Phuket, Resorts Worlds does Penang/Port Klang/Phuket). Don't think you can get that much further in a 3-4 night roundtrip...

Just really want to know when in 2025 they are likely to start sailing and what the prices are going to be like!

Funny, because I think the argument goes both ways here, because the cruise lines probably can't an extra 2-3 years of financing large deposits.

I'm guessing because of the Disney parks in Asia the Adventure could sell much better, however.
That's kind of what I'm thinking. If there's enough interest, a large enough audience/fanbase in the region or traveling to the region for the parks, than there is probably enough people to support at least a small number of DCL cruises.
I can see really nice packages developed for a Singapore trip to include the three Asian theme parks for European and American markets:

Precruise: theme park #1,
Cruise to include HK port and HK disney
Postcruise theme park #3.

--We'd sign up for that :D
I think @peder has the right idea and I want to expand on it. DCL teams up with Adventures By Disney for a cruise that stops at the Asian ports with Disney theme parks. DCL handles the cruise. On the port days, one of the excursion options could the Disney parks, which would be a deluxe VIP type Adventures by Disney style thing.

Not everyone on the ship is going to want the Disney Parks as their excursion.

When the company who ordered the Genting Dream went bankrupt it caused the builder of the shipbuilding go bankrupt, too. Disney bought the ship from the receiver in the insolvency proceedings for a tiny bit more than scrap metal prices. It also allowed 600 people keeping their jobs for a little while longer in an area that struggles with unemployment, which sweetened the deal for the creditors as the biggest one was the state as an underwriter to securities.

My kids might actually like this one, they were not fans of Ant Man and The Wasp
