New Cat Cora Restaurant (replacing Spoodles)

A CM told me that the new Cat Cora restaurant is opening in the fall and that Spoodles is scheduled to close 2 to 4 weeks prior to the new restaurant for renovations/change over. So, if you have ressies in June or July, you are probably safe.

So sad to have Spoodles go. We have gone there every trip since 1996 and we go to Disney once or twice a year.

I hope they do something about the noise in this place. It is one of my favorite restaurants but they need to do something to cut down on the racket there.

I just made a Spoodles dinner ressie for May 2 and then found out about the closing. Travel agent said they are scheduled to close about 4 weeks prior to the new place opening in the Fall. She also saw something on a website about Spoodles being closed for dinner for a little while in May for a small kitchen renovation. Any info out there on this? Would they take my ressie and we show up and its closed???? Help!

From what AllEars has on this, the renovation has been postponed with no new date. But Spoodles is closing and will be reopened in the fall as a Cat Cora Restaurant; "Kouzzina". There's a short story about this on the AllEars.net site.

I made reservations this past Sunday for an evening in June and all the person said was "nice to see a new restaurant on the boardwalk". There was no mention of it closing anytime soon, so, we'll see.

My one hope is that they keep the "Pizza Window". That is one hot commodity on the Boardwalk!!! Oh and I do love that Sangria. I'll have to make sure when we eat there in June that I have enough to "keep the memory alive". :) :)

We have ADR's at Spoodles next month, I just heard about Cat Cora opening up her new restaurant replacing Sppodles in the Fall. This won't have an impact on our ADR's for next month will it? I'm assuming they will have to close it at some point to redo for the new opening.

I have mixed feelings about this one - while my DH and I haven't been to Spoodles for dinner in a long time, we do enjoy their breakfast. We stay at BCV and there aren't many choices in the area for breakfast. We tried the Captains Grille once and were not happy with the food. We also did the character breakfast at Cape May and thought it was okay (food was lukewarm and not great) and didn't think it was worth the extra money. Other options are CS breakfast (Marketplace) or walking over to the Garden Grove Cafe at the Swan (which we used to do). The Garden Grove has gotten pretty expensive and they don't accept the Tables in Wonderland. I guess we'll have to give Captain's Grill a try once again since it will be the only TS in the area for breakfast.

I would definitely try the new restaurant for dinner. I just wish there were more breakfast TS choices in the area .

Anybody know when they're talking about closing Spoodles and/or opening Cora's place?

I don't know if this was mentioned yet, but Cat Cora is on the cover of the Feb. 09 issue of Natural Health Magazine sharing tips on cooking with chocolate.

So if both she and her partner are pregnant, who goes out and gets the pickles and ice cream in the middle of the night? :) I guess, when you're Cat Cora, you can just make your own! :teeth:

We recently became DVC members at BWV and we are so excited about the new restaurant! We have 2 little sons and we are currently big fans of the Disney Dining Plan, and we are hoping this restaurant will be on the plan, as was Spoodles. Hopefully it will only be on the DDP and be only 1 TS credit, but I have a feeling there is a good chance it will be, since Flying Fish is right there and is the signature 2 TS restaurant on the BW. I don't think it would be 2 TS just because Cat Cora is associated with it. Wolfgang Puck Cafe in DTD is only 1 TS credit and he is also a celebrity chef.

The location choice was smart too. Replacing a restaurant that already has a Mediterranean theme means it would likely attract the same clientele, and it would not be as much competition for another Disney restaurant because of the unique cuisine. The celebrity chef name is sure to attract even more people who would not have otherwise tried a Greek or Mediterranean themed restaurant. Smart move on Disney's part. And they already have Wolfgang's in DTD so that would not have been the best location, IMO.

We are looking forward to trying this new restaurant when we stay at BWV in July 2010. Hopefully it will be so good that we will make it a tradition! Even if it is not on the DDP (but I have a feeling it will be), we will still go there (we will have 2 or 3 extra TS meals anyway throughout our trip, on the basic plan, so no problem still using all the credits). I also hope they serve breakfast since there is no other TS on the BW that does. The only option would be BW Bakery, a CS location.

Hey, what about in-room dining? As I understand right now, the food comes from Spoodles. I wonder how they will do the in-room dining now!

dh and i are thrilled by this news. we've never been to spoodles - don't really get to the boardwalk on many trips - but we are huge fans of cat cora's and are looking forward to the opportunity to try her new place. :thumbsup2

i wish she would actually be there in person though - i'd love to get her autograph for our dd. (her name is cora - by total and pure coincidence - but it would be cool to get an autograph from one "cora" to another.) :cool1: (we're also trying to get her a redsox jersey for alex cora but apparently he isn't popular enough.)

Too late, Alex Cora was traded to the New York Mets. :confused3

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Disney World has a new cat in town. Celebrity chef Cat Cora is partnering with the Orlando area theme park to open a new Mediterranean-style restaurant.

Kouzzina, to be owned and operated by Disney, is scheduled to open by fall 2009 on Disney's BoardWalk in the space currently occupied by Spoodles.

Cora, who is the only female Iron Chef on Food Network's hit show "Iron Chef America," grew up in a family of Greek restaurateurs.

She says the new restaurant will feature "time-honoured recipes passed down from my ancestors, as well as my favourite Greek and Mediterranean dishes that my family loves."

My daughters love Iron Chef so we will be adding this to our list for our next trip!!!

Hi,

It's relatively new news, but it was announced a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks...

Thanks, Bob - I hadn't seen it before and it just came across my computer as a news story - guess it is "public" knowledge now.

Near our house, 4 restaurants have closed and been replaced by Greek eateries. All within 2 miles of each other.

And now Spoodles.

Call me nostalgic, but I'm going to miss Spoodles. Our family has had many wonderful meals there.

But, as all things seem to eventually change, Cat Cora is going to turn it into a Greek restaurant named Kouzzina.

I'm probably in the minority, but I don't care for Greek cuisine :sad1:

Will anyone else miss Spoodles?
