Dont forget to cancel any unwanted ADR's at least 24 hours in advance at the following restaurants;

1900 Park Fare
• Akershus Royal Banquet Hall
• Artist Point
• California Grill
• Cape May Café
• Chef Mickey’s
• Cítricos
• The Crystal Palace
• Flying Fish Café
• The Garden Grill
• Hollywood & Vine
• Jiko – The Cooking Place
• Le Cellier Steakhouse
• Narcoossee’s
• ‘Ohana
• Tusker House Restaurant
• The Hollywood Brown Derby
• Yachtsman Steakhouse
• Victoria & Albert’s (cancellation policy is $25/per person)

Pre-paid dining locations will continue to charge the full amount if the reservation is not cancelled at least a day in advance. Those locations are:

• Cinderella’s Royal Table
• Disney’s Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show
• Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue
• Mickey’s Backyard BBQ

What do you think about the change? Will it affect how you make reservations for dining at Disney World?

There's a good discussion about this over on the Community Board - I think the general consensus there was that the change is a positive thing, but that it won't stop people making multiple reservations on the same night - they'll just be more careful to cancel nearer the time.

I still haven't got my head around the whole ADR thing yet but I've got until March 2012 to worry about it!!

No change at all for us.

This is going to make it much easier to make an adr at these places. :thumbsup2

Don't see how it will change myself, as Viki says people will just cancel 1-2 days before. It could help walk ups/late ressies a little, rather than people not turning up they will cancel a day or two before.

Time will tell but don't see much difference myself.

when i was checking in for our lunch ADR at Tusker House in August, the CM at the podium said to the man in front of me that she'd found an ADR for him for both lunch and dinner...
he responded that he hadn't known when they'd make it to the restaurant, so he'd made a reservation for both dinner and lunch...

i suspect people like that will think twice about double booking....
what's the point of this kind of double booking if you have to cancel at least a day in advance?

so it will at least eliminate those people..

Agreed, but it should serve as a deterent. There is still the automated system which prevents 2 ADRs within a certain time frame so this will hopefully further reduce double booking, albeit ever so slightly. At best, it should improve the chances of a walk up or last minute reservation/changes for other guests, which I think has become one of the big gripes about the practicality of adding the dining plan.

As Beth says, this should cause people to consider carefully before double booking. Here's hoping

I think anyone that has the mindset to double book will continue and cancel, I found it difficult to understand why anyone would double book before the new rules so if that was the way they worked before I think they will continue, just cancel late.
Hopefully you are right and it will be another deterent and less will do it but I am not convinced it will make much difference.

Beth your example of booking Lunch & Dinner, I can fully understand that, 180 days out some people might not be sure what time of day they want their main meal, when they get there and plans are finalised they can use which they want, now they would have to cancel instead of not turning up.

I hope I am wrong and it works.

It will take away the people that book 4 adrs for the same time and use the one that they are closest to. That happens more then you think. I have a friend that gets ADRs in every name that they are travailing with. That $10 would add up fast. I have the argument with him all the time. he dosent see how its wrong.:confused3

Yes, hopefully it will stop that, they deserve a fine:thumbsup2

Overall I think this is a good idea but what do you do if someone gets ill at the last minute? As a family of five it would cost us $50 not to show up. So would I drag my sick kid there to save $50? Many people will. I think that the hotel manager or someone should have the ability to cancel the fee if he/she knows that the family is ill or some other emergency happens. Let's hope that is the case. We will have to see how this plays out. I assume that this does not affect the reservations that I already have for December (the ones that did not ask for a credit cards #)?

It wont change anything for us. :thumbsup2

I think it is good and hopefully will put off a few people making loads of bookinga. People get around the system and still will be able to. Its not hard to cancel things 24 hours before-at least it gives chance for more walk ups. :)

Im sure there will be a few problems as already mentioned- emergency/transport problems or illness. It would be nice to think that your hotel could cancel your restaurant booking without charge if needed. :goodvibes

They give quite a lot of leeway for being late. We had an 8 am reservation at 1900 Park Fare last month. We wanted to arrive early and go walk around the grounds at GF so we were on the monorail at the Magic Kingdom at 7.10 am. BUT, a monorail on the track ahead of us broke down and we sat for ages waiting for it to be moved. We turned up at the podium at 8.10 am and started to apologise for being late and were interrupted to say "Please don't worry, we are aware of the monorail delays." ADRs are not actual reservations. The previous name "Priority Seating" was for more appropriate as this is all it is. As long as you show up at some point of the sitting for which you were booked, they will take it that you didn't fail to attend.

For what it's worth, twice we wanted to eat much earlier than the ADRs we had; the one at CP we turned up over an hour early (DD was hungry and I was hoping not to have to give her a snack that would stop hear eating when it was mealtime). We were seated within 5 minutes.

While this may not stop those intent on making multiple ADRs entirely, it should take care of the biggest problem which are people who do what youcansmellit mentioned. Imagine having to find somewhere or stop and cancel 3 ADRs the day before, every day of your trip :headache:

Not sure why I was quoted when the response had nothing to do with my post :confused3

The way I read it Lee was responding to your concerns regarding Disneys stance when soemone is late for a booking due to transport problems, based her own experience of exactly that.
Seemed perfectly OK to me

It looks like my post has caused a bit of confusion

Yes, Kenny and Ford Family are correct; it was pertaining to the comment about problems arising due to transport issues and the like. Only the paragraph directly under the quote was linked to it. The other two were separate points regarding the ADR system :goodvibes
