New Camera - Suggestions??

I am in the market for a new camera....want to get some really great pix at our first DWD family vacay in September. My budget is $1000-2000. Any recommendations? Definitely want a good zoom option. Was thinking of DSLR.

Honestly- I love my Cannon G11. It's less than your price range but the zoom is fantastic and you have the option of buying additional lenses.

The best part (to me) is that it's not as large of a body as the DSLRs. I bring it with me more often because it's a great size.

I had the original Pentax DSLR (K110D) and LOVED it too. I loved my Pentax more than my parent's Nikon DSLR.

I would go with either the Cannon and a lens or two OR the Pentax (don't know what model they are up to). I'm sure someone will shout Nikon soon

I like Nikon, my suggestion is to go to a store that has different cameras and play with them and see how they feel to you. Also get one that's light, they get heavier as the day goes on in WDW. I always brought a DSLR to WDW until the past 2 years then I started bringing a small Panansonic Lumix. But that was after many years, so by then I was really interested in snap shots. Are you sure it's a Canon G11? Cause you can't change the lenses on that.

I recently bought a Nikon 3100 and I love it!!!!!! It's lighter than my Canon Rebel and it just feels better in my hands. I can't wait to try it out at Disney! I'm hoping to get a new lens for it before we go on our trip. I second checking out the photography board here on DIS. When I was buying my camera, I got some wonderful advice from the folks on that board. They were extremely helpful!!!!!!!

Sorry, my terminology was incorrect, you can't "change" lenses. You can only add additional lenses (there is a built in lens that isn't removable unlike real DSLR bodies).
