Has anyone heard of disney planning a new adventure themed park so they coud better compete with universal for thrill seekers?

In a nutshell, no. The strategic direction for the theme parks is to more effectively utilize their existing assets in the theme parks -- not build new theme parks.

Three years ago when we were staying at Old Key West our boat driver told us that Disney was going to build a new park called "Wild Kingdom" that teenagers and adults would love because it was going to have lots of roller coasters and other thrill rides geared to the older crowd. We thought that was kind of a "catchy" name if they would have actually built it!

Would they have to buy the naming rights from Mutual of Omaha :)

Nothing that has been confirmed. Disney's focus as of late is overseas. The 5th park rumor has been going around for a long time. As for better competing against Universal, well the latest numbers were just released, channel 6 out of Orlando publihed them. To say Disney crushed Universal is an under statement. Maine :firefight

I think that would be a fabulous idea. It would attract a whole new crowd, the thrill ride junkies. But Disney has great success without a thrill park, so who knows :confused3

ITA but disney is also know to not let any money get away thats why they offer so much, parks resorts ,dinning, other things to do.
Most people that go to disney don't like one thing or another ,even love most but not all.

Thats why Disney is so popular because of the choices not 1 concept .I think with most new additions ,DINO, PW,MS,SOAR,EE they are gearing for the BIGGER THRILLS as thats really the only market they don't totaly dominate. They watch these thing very carefully and you might just see them merging with existing parks or do the 5th but for sure they will continue to go that way.

I would love for Disney to open a heavily themed park with lots of thrill rides and coasters, but I wouldn't expect it anytime soon. With their new parks opening overseas any concept for such a park is probably on the drawing board but won't appear for awhile. Also their parks need some new rides and attractions. I don't expect a new ride at EPCOT anytime soon, but MGM, Magic Kingdom and especially Animal Kingdom, even with Everest opening soon need some new E-ticket rides soon, in my opinion. They should invest in their current parks before they open a new park.

I would much rather see 2 or 3 new E-ticket / "thrill" rides (like Everest) added to each of the existing 4 parks than to see a new one built.
