Well, it seems that the short trades have started. I was checking with member services about something else and I asked them when they start. She said a couple of days ago. They had had some issues but several members had booked already. I can't find any trades! I looked at all the locations listed for several dates and nothing comes up. There either isn't any or it doesn't work for me. Has anyone else tried this? I would love to know if there just aren't any or something is wrong. I hoped for more trade options but there are only a few. You can add a write in, but I couldn't even get that to work. Anyone got a short trade yet?

can this be done online or do you have to call MS?

Online only for the short stays, still call MS for 7 day stays

I had found several for Williamsburg, up to 8 months out-- I can't say I looked hard at any other possibilities

I tried a couple of days ago to see inventory for various locations, various dates. I couldn't come up with a hit either. :confused3

Either they've severely limited the weeks that DVC members can exchange for to only the most distressed ones that they have no chance of getting rid of otherwise OR they are having problems with the system right now.

I tried a search, but I all I can get to are the II resorts. I can't figure out how to search for specific places and dates.

You can go to the website with your membership loggin and go to II trades. It will direct you to the new site for short trades. It is not the same location we used before. I went to that site and it doesn't have the short trades on it. The new site has about 6 locations listed with a place to enter the dates you want. I still haven't had any luck with it though.

I found I had to put some dates in that were within 30 days, and I did get several hits.
We're hoping to stay at a resort in Canmore(close to Banff in British Colombia), and when I put dates within 30 days, I got a note saying there was nothing available at that specific place, but it listed several other options that we're close(close on the map maybe, but still 3-4 hours away).;)
I too am hoping more options will appear as booking just 30 days ahead will super stress me out.:scared1:

I did a search using the regular version of II (I'm a member thru another timeshare) for "getaways" which seem to be the same inventory the "Short Stays" pull from, except the "Short Stays" inventory seem to have way more restrictions, and has far fewer options. It's easier to search the Getaways because you can search for wide date ranges, rather than just 6-day windows. Currently, the only getaway available for Canmore in 2008 at a resort that is DVC approved is at the Grand Canadian Resort Vacation Club from April 26 - May 3rd. I'm guessing finding availablity on this one will be a long shot. One tip would be to do your searches with dates starting on a Saturday because that particular resort only allows it's full week rentals to start on Saturdays (this info is displayed in the Resort Directory). In playing around with the "short stays" site, I've discovered that you will only come up with a match if BOTH your starting and ending dates are within an available week.

Make sure you go there from the DVC page itself when you are signed in, reload the page several times if it doesn't work initially, make sure you're browser is set up to accept all cookies, if you have any blocking type software, make sure it's turned off, try a different browser.

I've played with it a little more and have a couple of other observations. Normally when II says within 30 or 60 days, they're counting from the day of check in. It looks like though that they are limiting it further to completing travel within 30 days with very limited options that II KNOWS will be excess further out than 30 days. Also, if one searches a location, the system will often show you other options that are within that region. Say you search Oahu, you may get Matches for that island then if there are units available on other islands, you'll get a dividing header that says "Areas Surrounding XXXXX" that would include any of the islands. A search for Aruba might return Cancun (included in the Caribbean with II). This is very helpful at times.

Mine does the same thing it is soooo frustrating... I have done everything and it still brings me to the resort list. I want to pull out my hair!! :sad2:

Thanks for the info.:)
I tried Canmore, and the one you said did come up when I put in a Saturday arrival. There are only two resorts in Canmore, and this one looks better.
I am surprised that it's quite high on points though, as this has only two bedroom units(so 200 points for 6 nights), a bit higher than I had hoped.
As I am looking for a July or August stay, I guess the points will be higher, and I may not get anything before the 30 day window:sad2:
Oh well, I'd rather go back to AKV, but DS has his heart set on Dinosaur hunting in Drumheller, Alberta.
:confused3

All the costs will be the same. The per night costs are a mathematical function of the full week exchanges for the past few years for high season points (160/270 for 1/2BR).

I do understand that, it's just that the resort I am interested in is only a 2 bedroom resort, and I could do with a 1 bedroom, thus it will cost me more points.:)

I put in dates from within 30 days to 3 months for Sedona, and Mass. - getting NOTHING available. I've tried Sunday check in, Thurs, Fri, Sat check in, and nothing. Doesn't look like it's going to be too easy, maybe impossible. I understand this is just the beginning, but I'm already disappointed.

That's one of the problems with the DVC exchange system, no chance to upgrade even on short notice so you have to pay full price even if it's more than you need. All the rest of II can use a studio to get that same 2 BR. But it's no different any other time using DVC to trade either.

Only time will tell but it looks like their measuring travel to the end of the exchange (must complete travel by 30 days) where II usually counts from the check in day. If this is true it's really only 3.5 weeks in advance rather than 30 days.
