Is this normal? I vaguely remember previous threads in which other people said they also didn't like talking on the phone but I can't quite remember.

Anyways I had to call WalMart yesterday to see if they got my application and I was sooo nervous. I just HATE talking on the phone! It's much easier to talk to people in person I think, you have more things to talk about.

And today I have to call my school to see if they sent my diploma or not, and I'm nervous about that too.

Maybe it's some kind of odd social disorder? You think? I don't know...

Everytime I'm on the phone I seem to talk really quietly and not have anything to say. I also studder a lot and say 'uhm' too much. Phone conversations with my friends usually go something like this...

"Hey, what's up?"
"Nothing really, you?"
"Not much...."
"..."
"So..."
"Yeah."

And on and on and on. But when I'm with them in person I can't seem to shut up.

So to all my friends out there with my phone number...I'm sorry I can't be normal and chat on the phone with you.

(Anyone else have phone distress?)

I hate answering the phone and phoning someone up...

It's just strange talking to someone when you can't see them. Especially when you're by yourself...

I remember when Jessie gave me her mobile number and she said to call whenever. I phoned her and when we had alot to talk about on the DIS, we just couldn't think of what to say to each other. It was alot of "uh's" and "um's".

Yes. I was exactly the same with her and well...all of my friends. We spent hours on the phone saying almost nothing! Listening to each other type on the computer. :p

Except the first time I talked to her and she had her friend over and they were really hyper. Scared me a bit. ;)

If its someone from here Im fine, other than that i dont go near the phone. ^_^

I hate answering phones. I don't really mind calling, if it's someone cell phone.
I can't keep a conversation on the phone either. Sometimes I'll sit there for 5 minutes then just say I have to go because I'm getting tired of holding the phone and not talking.

I hate the phone.
Period.
I hate talking to people who are like looking for a babysitter (I really don't want to babysit, I hate babysitting) and I always forget to say Yes instead of Yea...
I'm bad on the phone, I just am.
I can keep a conversation with a friend for a bit, but eventually they get bored and watch tv. But, they'll stay on the phone. So it's dead air, and if I try to say I'm going, she's not paying attention.

Exactly what happens to me. They'll go off and talk with their family, watch TV or get on the computer but keep the phone. So it will just be a lot of...nothing.

Glad I'm not the only one. :)

I don't dread calls which I'm looking for something specific as much. But still...it's weird.

Most of my friends tell me they hate the phone.
I really just can't hold conversations in general, so to me the phone is no different. I can only carry a conversation with my best friends on there, really.
But I have no problem with calling a business or anything.

Ugh.
I had to call my orthodontist to get my appointment changed.
I hate it when I'm talking to.. important? people, because my voice changes to a very fake sincere tone.

I HATE talking on the phone. Period. I try to avoid answering my home phone at all costs. It just bugs me. But if it's my cell I'm fine. I remember I was talking to someone on the phone once and I was shaking like uncontrollably(sp?) and I touched one of the corners of my posters and ripped part of the poster. And when I talk to my friends on the phone we just are like ya um, and talk about what we are doing at that exact moment. One time my friend took me step by step on what she was doing on GHIII.

I can talk to friends and immediately family with no problem. It's answering calls from people I don't know that causes a problem. One day, I was in charge of the office that I used to volunteer at. Answering the phone = NOT FUN!

Wow. You read my mind.
and at the perfect time too.
The only person im not nervous about..is talking to my crush on the phone.
Hes the most easiest person to talk to.
I just feel so comfortable with him I guess....

That's a good thing right? xD

Anyway, even with my best school friends its nerve wracking..

I used to be, like, hardcore terrified of the phone.
Now I'm fine with it.
Except for talking to some guys...

I am awful on the phone! My conversational skills are very bad.

I prefer MSN :)

My conversations are similar to the above.

"Hey"
"Alright?"
"Yeah.. you?"
"Yeah."
"been up to much?"
"not much, you?"
"not much.."
"done the eng hwk yet?"
"no, you?"
"no."
"k cya"

:) Pretty detailed!

I did the phone lines one time at the office. :sad2: Let's just say it didn't turn out well. Especially because I had no idea what most of the people wanted.

I'm the same way! I can't stand talking on the phone, it's always so awkward because like I don't know what to say.

I hate answering the phone at my house. They always assume since it's a girls voice it's my mom. They'll start going off about something I have no idea what they are talking about and I'll just say "Yes, hold on for one second" and I'll hand the phone to my mom.
Always happens at my grandmas too.

That always happens to me.
But usually it's like telemarketers.
My mum's friends know it's not my mum when I answer the phone, because they'll start asking me stuff about school..

Im fine on the phone with everyone. Strangers, friends, adults. I just hate leaving a message. I refuse to. Ill just call back
