"Hiatus" is just the term for their summer vacation, from the time they wrap at the end of the season in spring until filming starts for the next season in late summer/fall. And a Smurfs movie? That'd be terri...wait for it...ble.

"Hiatus" is simply the term the industry uses for the time period when a show is not filming. The normal hiatus period is when actors/actresses film movies so as to not interrupt their series shooting schedule.
