We drive down from Canada to Orlando, arriving late December 28th.

The 30th is my parents anniversary. I don't have a Credit card, I have debit, I'm almost 18 not quite, but, ssh. I don't think Disney takes debit over the phone, right?

Anyways, I'll stop getting off-track here. Sorry. So, I want to do something for their anniversary ... (I have no idea which one it is). but nothing too crazy expensive. We're staying at POR, and I was just looking for something simple / cute.

Any ideas, ya'll?

If your debit is a Visa or MasterCard debit it works like a normal CC and Disney should be able to take it over the phone.

I might be wrong, because I've never stayed there, but doesn't POR do carriage rides at dusk/night? That would be a really sweet idea for your parents. You could also have a cake made for them and have it delievered to the room.

Wow, driving from Canada to Orlando that will definately take some time! I do not envy that car trip! Congrats on your parents anniversary. 30 years is wonderful. First, let your hotel know that you will be celebrating your parents 30 year anniversary. They may do something nice for ya'll. They are not obligated to do anything special, but most hotels will go out of their way to make your trip memorable...especially Disney hotels. They are great. I celebrated my graduation in 1999 at the Poly. After checking in, we received a knock on the door and a CM handed me a stuffed Minnie and a signed picture of Mickey and his friends. It totally made my trip. Why not make reservations for them at a nice restaurant? Maybe CRT? That way they could eat dinner in the castle. The food is only o.k. (IMO), but the experience of just being in the castle totally out weighs the cons. Keep in mind, it is pricey. Also, you can have a specialize flower arrangement sent to their room by the disney florist. There are tons of thing you can do. I'm sure you will get a lot of great ideas on this board. Have a wonderful time in Disney!

Silvite, what Canadians mean by "debit card" rarely works in the U.S. When Americans say "debit card," they mean something different... it's issued by a credit card company.

Your debit will work in ATMs that display the right symbol (see the symbols on your card). You'll have to pay some extra fees to get your money.

If you don't have a credit card, better get traveller's cheques.

We ordered a cake for our son's birthday. It was charged to the room as a room service charge. It was delived while we were out of the room with plates for the five of us. I called ahead of time to set it up (called the hotel and they tranfered me to the right people) and reminded them when we checked in. They asked if we were celebrating anything during our visit.
I think they need 24 hours notice to get a cake. So maybe you could do this- order it now and sneak to the front desk after you check in and pay for it. Or sneak to the front dest and order one after you arrive.

The cake I ordered was $25 and would serve 8. I should have got the smaller one that served 4, but I forget how much it cost.

I second the carriage ride at POR. It's $35 and a 30 minute rite. It is quite romantic and will be so beautiful then since all the Christmas decorations will be up on the 28th. You should call asap to reserve that. I am not sure though if you have to pay up front or when you get the ride.

BTW, you are a very nice daughter to even think of doing something special for your parents!

Actually I believe the majority of "debit cards" in the US are issued by a bank these days.. but with credit card backing so it works like a credit card (both here and abroad, incase anyone was wondering lol).

It helps to know though, that when they say "debit card" in Canada they mean what we know as an "atm card" (especially since I often consider moving to Toronto).
