Need unique but not weird baby boy names.

I was on a similar quest before my DS was born last spring! We decided on Hamish, which is popular in Australia and the UK but not here in the States (of course, right after he was born, Brave came out in theaters and one of the triplets is Hamish, so now he has a cool Disney connection).

Names we considered but did not use:
Cuyler (pronounced Kyler), Cedric, Theodore, Declan, Alistair, Sawyer, Harrison, Broderic

Good luck OP, I know how tough this can be! But, in the end, the perfect name will definitely come to you...I thought we'd never agree on anything, but we did, and it is the perfect name for our little guy.

Suggestions?:)

Seems like to me there are more weird names on here than unique :confused3 We were always advised to *say* the full name out loud to see how it sounds, also, always mix syllables (ie. Jason Christopher Brown, NOT John Mike Brown). Also, such unusual spellings of a common sounding name, where a child has to constantly correct teachers, etc. If you want a name to *sound* a certain way, what's the point of spelling it so awkward that a child has to constantly correct others?

Also, my family's (parents, siblings, children) pet peeve is naming a child a beautiful name with NO intention of calling them that. We purposely named our children so that *nick names* are virtually impossible, and they have thanked us for that. We all have names that are not in every school room, yet are not so different that people have never heard of them.

Would love to know what the OP thinks if she is still reading :confused3

Boy can I talk on this subject!!!! My name is Aimée -- pronounced <eh-MAY> technically but most people just say <A-mee> which sounds just like Amy. It is freaking nails on a chalkboard to me when people spell my name Amy. There is nothing wrong with that name, but it isn't mine. Grrrr!!! I love my name but there are many many many times I wish my parents would have named me something that is not easily confused with another name.

That said, my middle DS is Brendan. I never thought that would be an issue but his teacher this year has a DS named Brenden and she is constantly misspelling his name. It's really bad because she sends home writing practice sheets every week for them o practice writing their name. His is always spelled wrong How is my 5 year old supposed to learn to write his name when his teacher gets it wrong constantly?

Not a fan of misspelled names. Not at all.

I will toss my sons name out there for your consideration...Mark. It's easily spelled (though I have had people ask if its Marc), easy to pronounce, people recognize it as a 'normal' not weird name, but there aren't six of them running around the playground. In fact, he is now 9, and I haven't personally run into another Mark under the age of 20. I know they are out there somewhere, but you don't have twelve kids turn around when you call his name at Chuck E Cheese.

Other family names that aren't too popular or too weird: Kevin, Gregory, Mitchell, Eric, and Michael (it seems to me like Michael was so popular for so long that people stopped using it, and now it's almost unusual again, much like Robert, Timothy, James and Edward)

My son is named Asa. If we have another son, he might be named Albert. Both family names from my side. Brennar and Elliott are on a short list as well.

I have an Uncle Asa and my grandpa was Albert

I have a Graham - love it and it completely suits him - we've met 5 so far ( 2 are in our twins club born after him) and 3 were random in public. My ds was a bit confused and went up to a mom calling her son and asked her if she was calling him - she was surprised to see there was another Graham

How awesome is that! My grandpa was an Albert as well, and Asa would have been a great great uncle.

My coworker just named her baby Harold. It is a family name and definitely not common for newborns.

I like Tristan- there is a book series I used to read with that name and now DD is reading it. Not to mention I love Tristan on Dancing with the Stars!

Evan, Aaron, and Joe were on my short list but I had girls. DD14 would like to name a boy William after William Clark (of Lewis & Clark). It's better than Meriwether ;) plus it was my grandpa's name. Those names aren't unique, but maybe not used a lot with the newest generation.

I was just reading a late 1800's history of my township and some of the kids names that leapt out at me were Axiom, Spicey, and Marble. Whether they were boys or not, I don't know but I kind of like them!

Our 5 month old (who was recently at Disney World in utero) is named Declan. We were also considering Porter, Julian, Brody, and of course Phineas.

I too like names that are not as common, but not names that have never been heard of. That being said my boys are Xavier, Ezequiel nn Zeke and Elias.

Happy Naming!

My DS is Casen! I have met a few others, but everyone was spelt differently. Cason, kason, Kasen, etc!

Ok, I'll throw our sons name out there. Bennett. Easy to say, easy to spell. Not weird but still different.

We loved the name Ben when we were trying to decide on a baby boy name but didn't want a Benjamin.

In all of his school years, he's only ever met one other Bennett (that one wasn't in his class either). We use both Ben and Bennett so he goes by both.

Aiden (my son's middle name):goodvibes, my ex-CIL named her son Lakota (love it), Gaylen (an old boyfriend).
