Need to vent - POFQ, POR, and discounts!

Boy, oh boy! I just need to vent a little. I am a plan-in-advance kind of person by nature. I made reservations in January for POFQ this December. I found out in about March that I was able to renew my Disney club membership for the rest of the year. After I renewed it over the phone, I called CRO to see if there were any discounts for my current ressie. I found out then that POFQ would be closing. I was offered upgrades, and although they were only $10 and $30 more I just wasn't planning on paying that much for rooms a night (we're taking my parents this trip so we have two rooms to pay for, and are on a budget). I was keeping my fingers crossed for a discount later in the year. They offered me POR with a DC discount, so I took it. (As an aside, we had originally picked POFQ because of the size - less walking for my parents). Now, there is all the buzz about POFQ opening back up and parts of POR being refurbised. To top it all off, no FTP for us because we check in on Nov. 30th. What is so frustrating to me is that I enjoy planning, and I do it far in advance for many reasons. I made ressies in January, and now it's almost July, I still feel unsure of things - and I don't like it.
Thank you all for listening, most people wouldn't understand my little Disney tirade. It just feels good to get it all out!

Disney doesn't typically release discounts very far in advance. It's still even early for room only discounts in December, but those might appear by the end of next month.

Yes, FTP is good, but don't get upset because you can't get in on it. More than likely, there will be room-only discounts for your dates, you just have to be patient. To expect discounts for December right now is only going to stress you out because Disney just isn't going to oblige.

In regards to POR/POFQ...okay, if POFQ does open up (which I hadn't heard - I thought it was supposed to be closed for over a year) then just call CRO and switch it over. I am sure you and your parents will still enjoy POR if that's where you end up.

but I thought they extended FTP through November? Does it not now go until 11/30? The rule (as it's been explained to me) is that you pay the rate of the first night you check in on- for instance if you check in on the last day of a Value Season rate and the next 5 days are regular season rate- they give you the Value Season rate for all nights. Now, I may be wrong but that's how I understood it.

Where did you hear the FQ was reopening? They have only been closed for about 6 weeks.

You'll have a wonderful time whether you're at POR or POFQ. We've been at both with the grandparents and they enjoyed both resorts. POFQ is smaller, and that is nice. But POR has more interesting pool area and the all important surrey bikes and fishing. We requested AB Building 14 specifically because it would be shorter walks for my folks. POR was accommodating and it worked out fine.
