Hi all,

Looked through theme park threads but just want to make sure I understand correctly. I bought 2 five-day park hopper passes for our friends who are going with us this summer. They've now decided to join us next March as well so want to upgrade to an annual pass. The park hoppers are already attached to their MDE accounts. Is there any way to do the upgrade now through DVC or do they have to wait until they get there and go to a park entrance? Also they got the park hoppers before the price increase in February. Is it true they now have to pay the entire price difference between their existing passes and the current annual pass price, or can they just pay the price differential between the current five day and the current AP to upgrade. Many thanks!

First - I'm sure you're aware but they will need to purchase regular AP's and aren't eligible for any DVC AP's. Only immediate family members that live with you can get the DVC AP prices.

Upgrades need to be done in person and yes, they now need to pay the difference in price between what the ticket was valued before the price increase and the current AP price. And if these were the special DVC park hoppers AFAIK they won't get bridged at all and will be the difference in price between what was paid for the tickets and the current AP.

Good point, no these will not be DVC AP's. Also, I apologize but need a bit more clarification as I'm not sure what the special "DVC AFAIK park hoppers" are, and also don't understand the pricing difference between your 2 scenarios above. They sound exactly the same to me?

There was a special offer to DVC members for Park Hoppers maybe a year ago? It was a discounted price but if you needed to upgrade you only got credit for the price paid. That differs from park hoppers bought from discount brokers where when you go to upgrade you are given the gate price value. That is referred to as bridging. It got a little complicated with the pricing change in Feb so that you only get "bridged" to the gate price prior to that date. But that still is different than just receiving credit for the price you paid. It sounds like you probably bought regular park hoppers though and not the special that was offered to DVC.

Also they got the park hoppers before the price increase in February.
Who did they purchase the tickets from? If they purchased from Disney, then they get credit for what they paid. If you purchased the tickets from a third party reseller before the recent changes, then they'll be credited the gate price of the ticket before the changes.

Officially, upgrades can only be done in person. If you purchased the tickets directly from Disney, however, you might be able to call and have them exchanged for AP's.

We updated a couple of two day PH's purchased direct. We called ahead and they said the upgrade to AP had to be done on property. We did so at DS.

Many thanks all. Yes I purchased through Disney direct, actually through DVC. So they'll have to pay the full upgrade price and it sounds like they'll have to upgrade in person but I'll double check with DVC just to make sure.
