Ok, I need some technical help, and hopefully someone here has done this and can tell me what I need. I currently have DSL, modem for that and a Linksys wireless router. I have one pc connected directly to the router, and 2 laptops wireless. I want to get one printer that we have, set up wirelessly to be used by all computers. What hardware do I need to buy to do this, and how do I configure it? Thanks!

You have a few options.
Intall the printer on the wired desktop and leave it on, then share the printer.

Buy a wireless print server, do the setup and then the printer will stand alone and everyone can print from it.

or

Buy a new printer that supports wireless access. I have seen one advertised but I do not remember the name.

I am fairly computer literate and had a difficult time getting my printer recognized via my wireless router. It worked for about a week then flat out stopped no matter what I did. I finally got fed up and tossed it out and bought a wireless printer. I have a brother MFC-845CW. Works great and have not had any problems since. It's a multifunction printer with a phone line and answering machine. Probably too much for most people - but I telecommute from home so it works fantastic for all my needs.

I'm curious about this, too. We have the same setup as you, a desktop directly wired to the DSL modem and router, another desktop using a wireless connection and a laptop using a wireless connection. Our printer is connected to the desktop pc that's wired to the modem/router and I'd love to be able to have the other desktop and laptop use the printer.

I went into the printer folder and shared the printer, but it doesn't show up on the laptop or desktop #2. Do I also need to install the printer drivers on the laptop and desktop #2 before they'll recognize the printer, or is there something else I also need to do?

Would a wireless print server then need to be connected to the router?

Correct. The signal sending/recieving portion is hardwired to the router.

We had ours setup about a year ago. It also worked for a few weeks then stopped when the power was interupted. We were able to get it working again once or twice then had problems.
