Need Suggestions for Thanksgiving Day

Several years back when we went to WDW during Thanksgiving Week, we went to Magic Kingdom on Thanksgiving Day. It was very, very crowded but that's where we had reservations at to eat for our Thanksgiving meal.

This year I'm thinking about spending Thanksgiving Day in Epcot, taking the monorail to Contemporary to eat Thanksgiving Meal @ Chef Mickey's and then riding back to Epcot. Has anyone ever spent the day at Epcot for Thanksgiving? And if so how were the crowds and how is Chef Mickey's for a holiday meal?

It was a great place to eat for my child's birthday, so I'm hoping they're just as good or better for the Holiday's.

Just so you are aware, about a week before we left they switched EMH days between MK and Epcot. Normally MK has EMH on Thursday but it was switched to Epcot this year. I don't know why, perhaps they were trying to even out the crowds.

As far as how crowded?? I really can't judge that very well. I hadn't been to WDW in over 20 years!! We did the princess breakfast at 8:30. After we did two attractions (Honey I shrunk the... and Living Seas). When we were done with living seas the line to get in was really long!! We walked around the world and saw the sights and a few characters. The park seemed full but not too crowded. At noon we were feeling hot and tired, so walked back to the BCV for lunch and a nap. We did return in the evening(6pm). It did seem crowded then!!

That was our exact itinerary this past Thanksgiving!

We got to Epcot late, however, as we finished a four-day DCL cruise in the morning. By 10:30 a.m. the park was packed and by 11:30 a.m. all FPs for TT were gone for the entire day. It was pretty crowded, but not unbearable. Standby lines at TT were posted at 90 minutes, but the wait was just (?!) 60 minutes. It was tough to walk through Mexico on the way out to/from the World Showcase for lunch. We walked right into Living Seas, had a short wait for Spaceship Earth, did FP for MS (and got a bonus FP for HISTA).

We heard from other guests that MK was worse.

We took the monorail to TTC and then to the Contemporary and had a great dinner at Chef Mickey's.

Thanks for the feedback. That makes me feel a lot better about going to Epcot on Thanksgiving this year. I'll check the EMH days also. I haven't had a chance to really work on my itenerary using EMH since we've just decided to stay on property, so it will apply to us this year. I think it's just something wonderful about being in MK on Thanksgiving and seeing the lighting of the Christmas tree, but at least the majority of the day we can be somewheres else and not have to deal with the major crowds all day long.

We arrive on Thanksgiving Day and have heard also how crowded MK is. I was hoping that Epcot wasn't so bad. We'll be at BWV so we'll be able to just walk over. Now, to figure out where to eat dinner. Hmmmm.

We will also be at BCV for the week before until the day after Thanksgiving. I am the ultimate planner and always want everyone to be happy. We are taking my parents with us. My dad has never been to Disney and my mom has been once but has not stayed onsite. So BCV should be quite an experience for them. We are also trying to decide how to "park plan" as well as meal plan for Turkey Day. We are thinking about being very non traditional and booking Boma. What do you think?

For us we decided that turkey dinner was not a requirement for Thanksgiving in WDW!!! It just didn't seem to fit in our head. To us the turkey belonged at my Dad's (or Grandpa's) house that was crowed with people, not sunny Florida with Mickey and Pooh!! So, we ate at the Rose and Crown and had sticky pudding for dessert!! Yummm!! Then watched illuminations.

Boma sounds great!! When I was trying to decide last fall, I read some good reviews of Boma for Thanksgiving. I had read they had turkey on their menu as well. We haven't gotten to eat there yet, but it is at the top of our list for next time!
