We will be going to WDW in April. It will be me (Nana), my DD, son in law and 3 little grandsons (5,3 and 18 mos).

Last year in Disney we had a double Peg Perego and another (forget the brand) single stroller. This year we will bring the double Peg but are looking for a light weight, maybe umbrella type, stroller for the 5 year old.
Our priority would be that it is light weight, easy to fold and that it recline in case he falls asleep.

We have the storage underneath the Peg and being that DGS is 5, I don't think a tray is a necessity.

Oh, also would like one that doesn't "break the bank" .

Any suggestions??

Thanks,

Karen :)

Not sure on your budget, but I have a Maclaren Triumph that we took to Disney and it was perfect. Very easy to fold, lightweight and a slight recline. I think Chicco makes a decent umbrella stroller too.

I have to say for a 5yr you need a Mac, triumph or quest, see if you can find last years model somewhere online, I did and it was cheaper. Don't go for the cheapest umbrella the child will be miserable and so will you, plus this can be used for the other little ones as well.

I have a 5 year old who is very tall. We test drove her in the Maclarens at BRU last weekend. We are going to go the with the Volo for our trip. It has a weight limit of 55 lbs, which really not many others do. No cheap ones anyway. YOu can find them for $70 shipped on ebay if you are not too picky on your color, and around $100 on some other sites. Just plug it into google shopping, a lot will come up.

Maclarens are the the only strollers out there for older kids--Plus they are durable so they'll last for the youngers kids when needed.

We have a Volo-- umbrella type stroller (no recline) and canopy and basket-- for our 4 1/2 year old who is very big for his age. At this point the only time we use it is for Disney. I think this is the least expensive one. The triumph and quest are a little more $$ but they recline.

We needed a stroller for Disney also. I wanted something lightweight, but more substantial and with more features than an umbrella stroller. After much research, I decided on the Maclaren Triumph.
It just came today and it is AWESOME! My daughter loves it (she's almost 3) and spent all night wanted to be wheeled around the house. What's strange is that I thought it would be a small stroller, but it's not. My daughter looks tiny in it. She's about 30 lbs, but looks huge in her full size stroller. The handle bars are very high, which is comfortable for dh, but also for me. The basket is small, but it's a light stroller, it's not meant to have a huge basket. One cool feature for Disney is that it has a shoulder strap for carrying when it's folded up and only weighs about 11 lbs. Also, the seat feels so nice. It's not just a piece of nylon. It's more like a microfiber type seat and is well padded.
I can't say enough great things about this stroller, but we really haven't used it yet. We paid $90 w/ free shipping on eBay for the stroller brand new. This is normally about $150 stroller from what I researched. It seems like a great deal.

For a 5 year old I'd also recommend the Mac Quest or Triumph. We have the Quest and LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I can't wait to take it in March for our next trip to WDW. It has a higher weight limit than other umbrella strollers so it would be a lot better for a 5 year old. And it has a decent recline too.

I used the Mia Moda Facile happily with my 5 y.o. :thumbsup2 Lightweight, nice basket, recline and canopy, plus the price was right.

For those who have been to DW what do you think of me bringing my graco stroller? it is the type that you used to hold the baby seat/ or just the baby. does that make since? hah its late! I was just wondering if you think it would be to big? I need it for the storage& recliner.

I love my Maclaren Triumph. Just enough recline for a sleepy baby, plenty big enough basket underneath to keep a blanket...5 point harness.

Hmmm, seems as if the Mclaren has the most votes here.

I just got a TRU $10 off when you spend over $100 coupon and also a coupon for 10% off strollers. (I'll have to check, maybe on the Budget Board, if you can use both coupons on one purchase).

Anyway, I trust the opinions of my Dis friends, and will go with the Mclaren, probably the Triumph. DD says she will be very happy with the Mac Triumph also, as she has heard good things about it too.

I'll check on ebay for prices before heading to TRU.

Thanks,

Karen :)

We took this exact type of stroller our first trip with DD at 13 months old (4 years ago).....my first purchase for our next trip 10 months later was a stroller - a Maclaren Quest. We hated taking the Graco - we were miserable with that big stroller. That was a long time ago so I don't really remember specifics but I know DH and I hated messing with that huge stroller. I do remember the buses especially were a pain. The Quest does recline a decent amount and it pushes like a dream....also the buses were a breeze with it.

Mac's aren't the only option out there and are not the only lightweight strollers for older kids. The baby jogger city mini has become a popular stroller and it offers everything the mac does and more. You can also rent them from www.orlandostrollerrentals.com.

the bjcm~ has a full recline, huge sun canopy, it is not tippy like the mac, and has a breathable fabric, and the quick fold is so much quicker and easier than the mac.

THIS IS MY PERSONAL OPINION based on my expierence I own both a mac and a bjcm as well as silver cross dazzle and both by far out do the mac. With the ages of the kiddos the price of the bjcm is well worth it and www.albeebaby.com has the blue/grey one on sale right now w/ free shipping. There are several other places that you can get them and use coupons as well. I have several photos comparing my bjcm to my mac if you would like to see them just let me know. You can also see video clips of the functions mentioned at www.babyjogger.com. All of the strollers mentioned above are used or have been used by my 5yr old so if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

I do not have photos of my SC right now b/c I haven't had it long enough I bought them at the beginning of the month but am more than happy to answer any questions you may have via post, pm or email.

If that is what is the most comfortable for your child and you can manage everything you need in it than bring. There will be times you may be furious that you have their mainly when getting on and off of the buses but that is a short deal of misery for an entire day in the parks.

I agree. I have a Mac Volo and Mac Quest as well as an Evenflo travel system. I use the Quest at home for DD16 mos, but for our Disney trip I am hauling the dreaded travel system with us (minus the infant seat). I just think at 16 mos she will still need the bigger stroller as we tend to stay in the parks from open to close. I really dread taking it as my Quest is so light and easy here. It just wont be as comfy for her though. Next trip we will definately take the Quest:cool1:

If you can, have your granddaughter go and sit in the strollers. My dd liked the Volo and the Quest, but not the Triumph. She said the seat did not go far enough under her legs. It is going to be different for every kid, but will be worth it to get one that she will be comfy in!

I have an Evenflo travel system too! LOL And I plan on taking it as well minus the carseat. Hey, I figure there are TONS of families that usr the shuttle systems with those big ole things so it's nothing new for the driver or passengers to witness. If they got a problem with it, well.......they'll get over it! LOL Plus I'll have my 11 y/o with me so she'll grab the baby while I get busy folding it down and getting ready to drag it on the bus! At the parks, I can see it being a slight pain but I want my baby to be comfy (he'll be 5 months) and I just don't know what lightweight stroller would accomodate him.

So big ole stroller it is!

Thanks, again, for all the suggestions.
Can anyone tell me, what is the difference between the Maclaren Triumph and the Quest?

I had decided to go with the Triumph until Karen624 mentioned that her DD liked the feel of the Quest better than the Triumph.

Ohhh, decisions, decisions, decisions...but that's what it's all about for us Disney Planners :lmao:

Karen :)

When we were shopping the only difference I really noticed between the Triumph and Quest is that the Triumph's seat is "shallower" which is what the other posters child complained about it sounds like. Other than that though I didn't see a big difference.
