We'll be taking my 75yo Mom to WDW on 6-25.

She just told me she is on some new medication and can't be in the sun too much!

Will it be a big problem if she brings an umbrella?

Where are some good shady places for her to rest? We'll be at MK and Epcot mostly. I don't want to take her to AK due to the heat, and I'm not sure there's much for her at MGM.

Also, is it possible to rent a wheelchair or scooter part-way through the day. She insists she doesn't need one, but I'd like to know just in case ;)

When we were at Disney last August we met a family in line who had a card (guest assistance?) for their daughter who could not be in the sun for long periods of time. She was allowed to wait for attractions and shows in either a shady area or indoors while the rest of the family waited in the line. One person from the party was waiting with her. We were just talking while waiting in line - I think they had a note from her Dr explaining the situation. I don't know much more info than this but it may help in your situation. Maybe someone on the disabilities board could help. He did note how well Disney was delaing with her situation.

Good luck and have a wonderful trip.

wow with the crowds the umbrella might be tough. Does she have a big hat like straw with big brim or something. Go in rides and shows a lot. Like Mickey's Philharmagic, Small world, country bear jamboree. Just try to space out the walks and waits. I don't know how many days she is going but to many days in the sun might not be great for her.

There is a midafternoon tea at GF .We took my 80+year old mom there last summer and it ws the highlight of her vacation. You should probably get a PS. Do it on a MK day and take the monorail to GF. Take a couple of hours to sit back, enjoy the view of the lake and relax.

Mom and dad would go with us in the morning for 2-3 hours. Then go back to resort . Later they would go back to parks for 2-5 more hours. It worked our nicely. They really wanted the time without us all around and the slower pace.
