👋 I’m trying to think positively but it’s really difficult.. hoping someone that’s traveled in May/lives in Orlando area can offer me some peace of mind that my trip won’t be a wash.. arriving tomorrow!

Although I can’t guarantee anything, in my experience, it will not be a washout.
The weather app will show rain everyday but most of the time it won’t rain at all or it will rain for a short amount of time.

I don’t live in Orlando but 55 minutes north of the parks.

Have a great trip!

You can still have a great time. Bring ponchos, several pairs of shoes and newspaper (to crumple and put in shoes to help dry them). If you have a stroller, bring a picnic tablecloth to cover your things. Hoping the weather clears up for you.

We are at WDW now, yesterday showed a chance of thunderstorms with damaging wind and hail. All we got was some rumblings of thunder.

The forecast shows rain almost every day for the 12 remaining days of our trip, but we will continue to do as we want/planned and just be prepared with raincoats, umbrellas, etc.

We went to Universal Studios last September and there was rain forecast every day we were there...it only rained the last night (although that was a downpour that lasted several hours). We were also there in June 2024 and it drizzled on and off for several hours, but we were able to walk in the park without incident because the rain was pretty light. I am sure you will be fine.

Right there with you - arriving tomorrow and hoping we just get the standard afternoon humidity storm and at least some peeks of sun through the clouds! The forecast sucks 😝

I'd rather be on vacation in the rain than at work on a sunny day. We have made great memories at the parks in the POURING rain. We spent a week at the Poly last year this week... it was great! I am sure you'll have a blast.

You'll be fine, weather will influence your mode of travel more than your time in the bubble. "Be Flexible" is always the strategy built in to the plan.:smickey:

With as hot as it has been, let’s hope for more clouds to block the sun. The feels like temp at Epcot yesterday was 99, in early May.

I live in Tampa and it gets hot, but Disney is way hotter! Give me clouds and rain over the sun all day long!

Is there a certain day/days you're worried about? I looked at the forecast for the next week and I don't really see anything out of the ordinary "possible thunderstorms/rain at some point during the day." That's the standard forecast. You might see a passing shower, or you might not. I don't think you have anything to worry about at this point. Like others have said, people should always be prepared for rain when they head to Disney World -- have at least 2 pair of shoes for each person; lots of socks if you're wearing sneakers; newspaper to stuff in the wet shoes overnight (please don't use the dryers in the laundry room to dry shoes. If you forget newspaper, call housekeeping for extra hand towels and washcloths, they will work well, too.); good rain poncho (the cheap ones work fine for quick showers, but if you experience an all day rain event you'll want something better.); clothespins to be able to hang up rain ponchos in your room; and extra clothing (unless you plan to do laundry anyway).

I'll share our experience with rain at Disney. It was May 2009. Two days before we arrived, the forecast for the week was actually all sunny with a chance of a passing rain shower a few days during the week. The day before we arrived, the forecast for arrival day was changed to increased showers possible. We got there and it was nice and sunny. We headed to EP and spent several hours there in the sunshine. The clouds started rolling in after dinner so we headed back to the resort. It started raining on our ride to the resort. That evening, the forecast for the next day changed to showers on and off all day. It rained pretty much all day. We still went to the parks. By that evening, the forecast for the next day changed to rain off and on all day. We went straight to the gift shop and bought the Disney rain ponchos because it was clear our cheap ponchos weren't going to cut it. Every day the forecast for the next day changed from "mostly sunny" to "rain off and on all day". And this wasn't "pleasant" rain, it was all out down pours. One day we got off the monorail at MK and as we were coming down the ramp, we couldn't even see The Contemporary in the distance and when we got to the bottom of the ramp, we had to walk through water that was well over our ankles. A tropical depression stalled over central FL and stayed put for 10 days. Orlando got about 10" of rain while we were there. Even the guys on the Weather Channel were saying, "This is not the week to be at Disney World." Instead of us having the usual sunny all day with brief rain showers every afternoon, we had rain most of the day with a brief break of sunshine every day. Fortunately I was prepared and other than the good rain ponchos, I had packed everything we needed. Despite all of that rain, it was a great trip. The rain kept the local guests away, so parks were not crowded. Lines for rides were very short. People were cancelling their ADRs constantly because they didn't want to go out in the rain, so you could get some really good ADRs at the last minute. We did things on that trip we had never done before because we spent a lot more time at indoor attractions/shows. While I wouldn't wish for anyone to have rain for their entire vacation (and I did feel really bad for those people who were on their once-in-a-lifetime trips that week), it doesn't need to ruin the vacation. Be flexible; make the best of it; and have a great time.

Is that helpful?

I can’t think of any vacation trip I’ve had that was “washed out” by weather except one year when we camped during a tropical storm and it wound up ultimately being more fun than other years without the adversity.

As long as you’re not the Wicked Witch of the East you’ll survive and I bet have fun too.

Enjoy yourselves.

I have hoped for many (many) years that some of me might melt away in the rain. Hasn’t happened, not even a little bit. While I find ponchos are way too warm, I have happily used an umbrella. Even a 10 minute shower can be fierce. Actually, I don’t mind getting somewhat wet in the hotter times but many find it is then easy to get a chill in the well air-conditioned restaurants and attractions. It can be worth finding some shelter and letting the cloudburst move on. Shop, snack, see a show, sit on a covered porch. There are lots of options.

We did have one Sept vacation where it rained for most of every single day. We just pushed on like the sun was shining, and took shelter only when there was an electrical storm overhead. The key was having footwear that could stay in place on our feet and not cause blisters. We waded through some petty deep waters at times. Our 6 & 8 yr old grandsons loved that part! We also bought them Duffy Bears with Mickey rain ponchos. Proper commemoration of that trip, for sure.

We had a very rainy week in Disney World several years ago when my daughter was about 3 years old. We had a rain cover for her stroller that really kept her snug and dry as we splashed through the puddles across the parks. If my memory serves, the worse park for puddles was MK. I remember being ankle deep in water in Fantasy Land. Overall, it was still a fantastic vacation and we made a lot of wonderful memories. It was super nice that when we got back to the Beach Club, there were kind cast members at the lobby doors greeting us with much needed fluffy towels to dry off on. Also, I think the rain kept the crowds and waits lower than they would have been otherwise. The only thing I regretted was not having some sort of waterproof or easy dry shoes - maybe something like Teva sandals. All we had were tennis shoes which didn't do a good job of drying out overnight - even stuffed with newspaper. A cast member in a store at MK gave us some interesting advice while we were desperately shopping there for dry socks one afternoon. She said to put small plastic shopping bags on over our socks before putting on our shoes. It looked really weird but it really kept our feet much drier and happier that day! I think you will have a wonderful trip regardless of the weather!

During our monsoon week trip, one of our sons had a pair of leather sandals and even those didn't dry completely overnight (he had a pair of athletic shoes as well). The rest of us each had 2 pair of athletic shoes (because I insisted that no matter where we go, everyone *must* have 2 pair of shoes. :D ). Every night we'd stuff our wet shoes with towels/washcloths (we ran out of newspaper by day 2). In the morning, we'd take the towels/washcloths out of the shoes and let the shoes continue air drying. By the time we would get back from the parks that evening, those shoes would be dry and we'd start the process all over again with the shoes we wore that day. As much as my kids always complained about the minimum of 2 pair of shoes requirement I enforced, they were very happy that they had extra shoes on that trip. Now they're all adults and always take a minimum of two pair of shoes with them on any vacation. :D

It'll be waaayyyy better than our trip last Oct. in the middle of a hurricane. Just go in with a good attitude and take ponchos. Have fun!

A rainy day ☔ at Disney is better than a sunny day ☀️ at home :flower1:

I have had trips where it rained every day except the day we left but most of the time it's not all day rain. In 2014 we had quite a bit of rain, heavier rain, too and we just threw on the ponchos and kept going. It was a great trip. Providing it still works there is a TR about it in my signature. (And it rained, and rained and rained... that might mean something if you remember the Original The Living Seas - without Nemo)
