need some pricing suggestions for American Girl Doll Stuff // Page 2 - more Pics

I don't know that it was rodent feces. It wasn't my house. And yes, I would let my kids play with these after the torso was replaced because I know they were cleaned. The sandbox at the park has more germs than these, the railings in public have worse germs than these as do the subways in many big cities. At least I know these were cleaned because I cleaned them myself.

You don't know, but you thought it was. And the truth is, you won't disclose that or their original condition, because you know that no parent would buy them then.

I have picked up wood furniture from curbside trash, but never anything with upholstery, and never never anything that my child might snuggle with or sleep with or hug and kiss. Barf.

given the condition that the dolls are in, if she decided NOT to send them to doll hospital, I think an adult collector would be the one to try and snatch these up. You could even put in your listing for adult collectors only.
OP, just be honest, say that you found them curbside, they were not yours, so therefore you don't know for sure what happened to them or what environment they came from. I still think you'll get some buyers, maybe not as much cash as you would have liked, but I have seen people on ebay just sell heads and limbs of AG dolls.

O and there are ways to launder the torso, the hair, etc. Would I be able to do it? No, I don't know how to restring and take stuffing out and put new stuffing in, but like I said the adult collectors on agplaythings do.

You are probably right. And I think specifying that they are suitable for collectors but not children would be the right thing to do.

I just checked DDs dolls (all bought from 1997 and later). Only Jess does not say pleasant company. Kaya says "Pleasant Company 2002" The rest all jsut say Pleasant Company with no dates, etc. They are two sets of twins (one set is DSs--she is not that spolied:rotfl:), one Bitty baby, Josefina and Kailey.

Draw a chalk line around that baby, she's a first edition. Not that that neccessarily means any more than a cup of ice to a smoker over there in speedo land but hey, it is a triva fact worth noting... :teacher:

The 2002 after Pleasant Co designates her as a first edition. It doesn't mean she was only sold in 2002 though as they were probably in warehouse inventory for several years, and I even saw a few that I was told were found in overstock & turned up at the 2007 benefit sale, but still.... :magnify:

I would explain that they are dirty and enclose many pictures and need severe repairs. I would never say they were from my kids or house. I figured maybe $20 each until people on this post started saying numbers, which is why I posted more pictures and explanations for evaluation. You have to figure it all into the end.

As far as cleanliness, what people think is clean is not necessarily so. being new does not deem it clean, just that it has been cleaned enough to appear clean.

and for those who said " my kids don't sleep with the sandbox", you are right, they don't sleep with it, they are probably eating it, just like mine are.

"Tomato juice, for example, may average “10 or more fly eggs per 100 grams [the equivalent of a small juice glass] or five or more fly eggs and one or more maggots.” Tomato paste and other pizza sauces are allowed a denser infestation — 30 or more fly eggs per 100 grams or 15 or more fly eggs and one or more maggots per 100 grams."

Why do people think I would be any less honest selling them on Ebay or Craigslist than I was here ? Did I not post enough pictures ?

I would get rid of the torsos and just sell sets of head/hands/feet. Then you'll at least be able to say for certain that there is nothing inside (mold, etc). With full disclosure I don't think you'll have a problems selling them.

I wonder if you could take the little outfits and get them drycleaned???

in my experience these still aren't really rare enough to get even the going rate of $100 on thru resale. i have an original from 86 in very good condition that i wouldn't consider selling but i do frequent for clothing items etc. those that do go are in mint to very good condition. the items that tend to warrant the big $ are the accessories and outfits that are retired. i think the doll hospital is an excellent option to get them back in shape.

This would be an awful thing to do to a child living in a shelter.

Here is a filthy Garbage Doll for you, little homeless girl. It is all that you deserve:sad2:

I agree with you hen!!! so sad that folks would even think to do that!!

Those dolls are disgusting and the thought of some little girl holding one makes me feel sick....

How interesting. I never knew that. I find it odd that we have a 2002 since she got it for Christmas in 2004. Like you said--they must not have sold all of them the first year. She is in beautiful condition--not a mark on her and hair still in original braids (they were too pretty for DD to ever want to take them out and do something different)--not that my daughter would ever care to part with her;)--it is just neat to know; thanks for telling me.

Okay, I just keep imagining a bunch of mice living in and peeing in the stuffing.

Then a little girl holding and playing with it.

"Here you go honey, a little hantavirus for Christmas."

Ew! If you do decide to sell these, please be honest and fully disclose how you came to get them and what condition they were in. I would never feel good about making a quick buck in this situation.

OP, after seeing the pics of the dolls out of the bags, my opinion has changed.

There was a reason those dolls were in the garbage and I really don't think they can be salvaged.

Please (if you do list them) say they are for adult collectors ONLY.

Ick, those things are so disgusting. Why you would even want them in your house is beyond me. They need to go back in the trash.

That is awesome that you found those dolls. I agree that a collector and not may be the best home for them as they need quite a bit of work!

I never knew their was differences between the dolls. He he he, Makes me look at my old AG dolls much closer. I got my Samantha doll and my Felicity doll the very first years they came out. I have a Samantha Doll with a different looking Body, and a Felicity with bright red hair and a brownish rose dress instead of the purple one I have seen her wear since. :goodvibes

I was keeping them around for if I ever have a little girl who would like them.

Because you keep skirting the issue by saying that you would say they were "dirty" (what an understatement!!!) and that they weren't your daughter's.

Never once have you said that you would put in your listing that you trash-picked them, that you suspect rodent feces were on them, or that you would include "before" pictures.

I just have to say how refreshing it is to have an ongoing thread where people are questioning the correctness of selling an AG doll on ebay and it has absolutely nothing to do with whether there's an x on the doll's bahookie or not from the benefit sale... :lmao:

Sorry, I know I shouldn't be amused but, for some totally incomprehensible reason, I find that I am. Sort of makes those tiny little x's on the back seam look like a non-issue in comparison, doesn't it? :rolleyes1

Ooh, I have a question for you! I have a doll with an X on her behind that I bought at a benefit sale in Madison for my SIL who did not buy her afterall....let's not even go there! ;) I want to sell her but that little X on her little bum is making me wonder what I should do.

As for those dolls pictured here....was there a time that AG dolls torsos were a darker color fabric? Or is that fabric supposed to be the same color as the legs and arms like they are now? If so, I am thinking sewage back up and that is just freaking me out.

If you sell her on ebay or Craigslist be sure to disclose the fact that there is the "x". Some people care and some do not. My DD has a couple of "X" dolls and she loves them just the same as her non "X" dolls.

:thumbsup2 Mine does too, IMO it's much ado about nothing unless you're looking to resell for a hefty profit.

For those who haven't seen one though, the "x" is about the size of one you'd type here - maybe smaller - and usually located in the center of the behind where the seams meet. Often you have to really be looking for it to even notice it. The x identifies it as an "mcm sale" doll and prevents it from being returned to american girl for refund since it wasn't purchased directly from the company.

Some folks (like those over at a certain doll board mentioned earlier in this thread which I can proudly say I'm now banned from) get into nasty debates about the morality of selling dolls from the sale all the time. I've seen those threads on here too occassionally. They strike me as sour grapes from those who can't get to the sale but that's another thread entirely.
Anyway, as those who've dealt with me will confirm, I'm not one of those ebay resellers we all complain about - my items are mostly preowned or new catalog/store items we bought three of (one for each girl) then later decided one would do - but I'm not going to get all in somebody's face about what they have a right to do with something they own & paid for either... :rolleyes1

There would be many Halloween haunters out there that would buy those dolls in the same condition of the photos. Many people craft dolls into goth or demon dolls and sell them for hundreds and thousands of dollars on eBay.
