Need some clarity on Use Year

I'm trying to explain to a friend about Use Year, and she's not quite grasped it yet. And because I'm trying to give multiple examples, I'm now confusing myself.

So very quickly....if your Use Year is April, you cannot book a February, 2022 vacation with 2022 points unless you're borrowing them. Those 2022 points go into your account on April 1, 2022. Correct? Or am I now losing it???

Your friend could book a February 2022 trip with April 2021 points without borrowing anything.

You'll need April 2021 points (points expire 3/31/22 with banking deadline of 11/30/2021) to book a February 2022 vacation, OR borrow April 2022 points into your April 2021 UY (one time transaction) if you don't have enough. Hope that made sense...

On the right track but still a nitpick with the language.

April 2022 pts don't "go into your account on April 1, 2022." They have been there all along. They are valid for stays from April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023. But if you wanted to use those April 2022 pts for a stay on April 1, 2021 when you were hanging out on May 1, 2020...you could have booked that stay using those borrowed 2022 UY pts. No need to wait for them to "go into your account."

But yes, to book a Feb 2022 stay with an April UY would fall into your 2021 UY. So those 2022 UY points would need to be borrowed to use them. So you are correct on usage.

Thanks, everyone. I knew the 2022 points were available for use, but only if they were borrowed. My bad. I'm tripping over myself at this point...as well as second guessing.

Here is the easiest way for me to plan. First, figure out the UY your trip will happen, Forget about the calendar year

Any trip can be booked with banked points from the UY prior to the trip, points from the UY of the trip, and borrow…currently 50%…from the UY after the trip.

So, a Feb 2022 trip falls in the April 2021 UY, it can be booked with banked 2020, 2021, and borrowed 50% from 2022 to finish the booking.
