Need opinions - SSR vs THV in December

We booked a dedicated 2-bedroom @ SSR; 12/20-23. I keep going back-and-forth about switching to THV when the bookings open on Feb 8.

I think we would feel too isolated in a THV and during the Holiday season, I really enjoy crowds (and believe me, that's the only time!! )

There will be 2 generations for sure (kids are late teens/20's), but we're hoping 80 y/o Grandma & Grandpa might join us also. (that would make "8")

I'd like thoughts and opinions on which you might choose if you were me!

Which section would you request if SSR? What requests if THV?

Any and all opinions are welcome! TIA!

If you end up with 8 you probably would do better with THV. Even without... don't you want to be one of the firsts to check-out these brand new, special, unique, units? Maybe THE first in your villa. How cool would that be?

All things considered with a large group, I don't think you would feel isolated, but rather free to enjoy the space and yet still have some sense of home.

I am really happy for the SSR owners... this is a great addition to your ownership. You deserve it.

Thanks Rob! Yes, there's a part of me that does really want to be among the first to stay there; then there's a part of me that fears being among the first!

I guess the fact that it's only 3 nights, would make anything tolerable! I think I need more information about THV before I can decide.

Hi Laura!

That is a tough one... Will you have a car? The thing that really appeals to us about the THV is that you can park right by your unit. We think it'll be so nice being that close!

If you choose SSR I'd pick Springs or maybe Grandstand, to be closest to the main area. We prefer Springs but we always use our car so we don't rely on buses at all. I think Grandstand has the best bus stop.

Who knows if they'll take requests for the THV but we were thinking we could request "near the river" maybe if they do... The units near the road don't look as appealing.

I do think the THV could feel more isolated then if you were in SSR with people staying all around you. However, in our 5 stays at SSR we rarely see (or hear) our neighbors in our buildings. It is always so quiet! Only in the main areas do we really see lots of other people around. And if you stayed at the THV you'd still be using those main areas.

Anyway, good luck deciding! It's a fun decision!

Hey there Liz!

We will have a car on the December trip. I like the idea of "near the river" for THV.

We have stayed in Grandstand several times (loved it!) and the Carousel -- which I would have NEVER requested, but it was really great (and right by the Paddock bus stop!)

I am facing the same question you are....should we switch or not
We will be at WDW from Nov 21st-Nov. 30th 2009. First night we are spending at GF, and the rest of the trip at SSR 2 bedroom (our home resort)... I REALLY want to try out the THVs, but we really like SSR...our kids think it is our Disney home.

I'd switch!! Sounds like a great experience. The units will be brand new and perfect.
