My washer and dryer are starting that slow down hill climb. So DH and I talked about it, so I will be getting new ones... :yay::yay: We will be paying cash, we do not use charge cards, we are paying them all off and very close to doing so :dance3: so what are some good suggestions?
Here are my needs.

1) I do not want a front load washer, to many problem and they have a funny smell, I have several friends that have them and do not like them at all.
2) I need load size control and temp control and the largest thing that I have to wash is a comforter so not sure how heavy duty that I really need or large capicity that I need.
3) Must have hand wash or delicate cycle.
4) for the Dryer, I would like to be able to control the temp more, not just hot, hotter and air.

Suggestions please. Thanks

We are really hard on washers and dryers. I would suggest that you check out the top loading Sears Kenmore products. From past experience I would say to stay away from GE and Maytag. We can wear those out in less than a year.

We have never had a problem with any Sears appliance we have bought and have gotten at least 10 years out of each. If there is a Sears outlet you can but scratch and dent and floor models with a decent discount. There used to be one in Smyrna, don't know if that is close to you or if it is still open.

Our last refrig was $200 off because of a huge scratch on the one side. Since it was the side facing a wall, we really didn't care.

I love my Kenmore front load washer and dryer set. We read the manual and follow the simple instructions to avoid problems (use the proper small amount of the proper HE liquid detergent, allow the drum and detergent bins to dry out between uses, and drain the little tube weekly). Most problems with mold and mildew forming are caused by people not following the simple procedures. The machines handle huge loads, and there is less drying time because clothes come out of the washer containing less water. According to Consumer Reports, front loading washers perform better than top loading washers, so we've made the switch and are not going back.

I had a Whirlpool Sport Duet Washer/Dryer combo for 5 years and I always hated the washer. The dryer has done fine. The washer ended up erroring out (F8) every time we tried to do a half decent load and it just got replaced last month. I wanted to keep the HE because I do believe there is a saving in water usage (and being in the desert water they charge a lot for water) but I never liked the front load because mine seemed to get dingy around the front seal. To replace it I went with a LG 3.7 cubic ft HE Top Loader. It was around the same price as a front loader but the 3.7 cu ft was a larger capacity than we have ever had. No agitator helps as well. The only downside for me is I the fact that I have a lot of collared shirts I wear to work and with this washer if I just hang them they are too wrinkled to wear so I have to hang dry them for a day or 2 and then put them in the dryer for a few minutes and then hang them again. As much as I hated the washer I do like the dryer that came in the set, 5 years old and runs like a top.
