So this is a trip for NEXT September but I'm just this OCD.

i have booked a short Canadian cruise (Royal Caribbean) that leaves from Boston on a Tuesday. I think I'm going to fly in the Saturday before and spend a couple of days sightseeing. For those of you who live or visit Boston where would be an nice central hotel to book a few nights.

I would be flying in (Southwest) and have to get to the hotel from airport

I would like to be easy access to touristy things (not sure what yet) I do have Uber and I'm cool with public transport.

Will need to get from hotel to cruise dock on Tuesday

I will be a solo female, although a friend may join me for Boston but she is also a female, so I'd like a safe area

I don't mind spending a little more to get the above requirements, but I'd like to stay in the $150-$200 range but Will go a little higher. I don't mind basic as in Holiday Inn or Hampton but will not stay in a cheap or trashy place just to save money, I also don't want to spend mega bucks for a room I just plan to use as a base for showering, sleep, and putting me feet up at the end of sightseeing. I don't need gyms, spas or pools.

Any ideas on preferred areas or recommendations for a first time visitor.

I grew up in Boston, so I haven't actually stayed at any of the hotels, but I would look around Copley Square. This area will keep you within your price range but you will also be in a great area for sightseeing etc... There is so much to do and a lot of it is walking distance, but the T is also right there. I think if you stayed closer to the cruise port you would be further removed from the sights and spend more time traveling to them. You can take public transport to the cruise port, but taking an uber would probably be easier with luggage and it is a very short ride. There are also hotels on the harbor side of faneuil hall that would be a good area for sightseeing (and the port) but they seem to be a bit more expensive.

Boston is a great place to visit, I love playing tourist in my hometown. Since your trip is next Sept I think you could spend a good amount of time deciding what you would like to see and plan out a good walking route. Have fun!

There are tons of new hotels opening just off the highway in the Boston area.

DoubleTree Boston Bayside - Hilton, is located right off exit 15 - very central to everything - also close to Red Line T stop. Close to the beach where you actually watch the ships come in. I stay here often when I am forced to work double shifts and don't want to take the hour ride home, if I have to be in at 5am the next day. It is clean, has a Starbucks, food and a small bar.

Marriott in Quincy is about 15 minutes out of Boston. This one has a restaurant with a nice lounge.

Courtyard Boston - South Boston/Marriott - also central to everything

These are all in the 180-240 range, if want to spend more say 300 or 400 you can jump to Wharf or Copley area. Also these do offer AAA discounts.

Following along as I would like to take a trip to Boston in the near future. Have fun planning. Love getting ideas/reading reviews from TripAdvisor.

My daughter goes to college in Boston and when I visit I stay at The Marriott Copley Place- its a really nice hotel and right across from the Prudential Center. You can grab a Duck Boat right three for a tour or take the T which is right there!

I stayed at Marriott Quincy in Sept- nice hotel and pretty cheap- was less that 150.00 a night. This month I am staying at the Marriott in Newton for parents weekend since the hotels near the schools are all inflated pricing then. I stay at the Marriott Copley place during other times for 169.00 a night- for parents weekend it is 489.00 a night and there I no way I will pay that much. I will just uber back and forth from the hotel to the college that weekend.

Yeah that is why I listed those hotels, OP is coming in on weekend so downtown hotels will all be 300 & up. Love the Marriott Quincy, have stayed several times. My cousin actually got married there a few years ago. They did a great job.

These sound great so far. I fiqured Boston might be a pricy weekend but it's somewhere I've never been so I want to take advantage of the opportunity.

Check out the Midtown Hotel. It's an older building, not luxurious, but clean, comfortable and reasonably priced in a great location.

I had looked into this hotels- the trip advisor reviews though say it is anything but clean...with reviews like these I would not even chance this place.

"Very sketchy hotel staff and clientele,. Nothing professional about the check in or out staff. The hotel itself is cinder block walls, dim lighting, guests smoking weed in their rooms. Would not stay there again."

"gross
Stains on everything. The bed spread, the decorative cloth on the bed, the chairs, the rug all had stains. The room smelled heavily of cigarette smoke even though it is a non smoking hotel. We spoke to the front desk about it and they brushed it off and would not change our room. There was even ash by the window. The heat is weird. Its a small room, but one part would be hot and take a step in another directions and it was cold. The parking garage was full so I had to park half a mile away and walk in the below freezing weather"

"I frequently stayed at Midtown Hotel as it is close to my doctor. My latest stay was terrible. The toilet felt as though it was going to fall over. I had a feeling that there were issues with the room as on the
door handle was a red placard listing issues with the room. I checked to make sure that it was the room that I was assigned it was. I should have demanded a new room then."

"
Avoid this hotel.
No matter how cheaper it is compared to other in the area.
We found a cockroach in the bathroom, called reception about it, it took them so long to get to the room that the bug crawled back to where it came from.
We then had to beg for another room even if all I wanted was to get the hell away from the place."

I stay at Hotel Commonwealth when I am in Boston for work - my favorite hotel. Previously I have stayed at the Hilton on Dalton St - also a great place to stay and centrally located

We stayed at the Boston Park Plaza. It just finished a big renovation. We found it very convenient. It's a block off the Common (where the Swan boats are). We walked all over downtown. You can pick up the Freedom Train at the Common. We paid extra for a guided tour, but you can certainly do it on your own.

We got a wonderful deal from Travel Zoo.

I live in the area so don't know much about hotels, but in terms of where to stay, I would try for Copley which is pretty central or Kenmore Square which is a little further out from the commons but a nice area with a few hotels and a t station that'll get you to Copley pretty quick.

I live right outside of Boston but commute every day for work. I would say the Sheraton Boston located on dalton street. It is connected directly to the Prudential Center and close to Copley Square, the Commons and Fenway, in the Back Bay neighborhood - its around 150.00 a night. The Plaza hotel is another great one too.

We’ve stayed at the Lenox, Marriott Long Wharf, and the Intercontinental.

I like the location of the Marriott the best. It’s easy to walk to little Italy and Faneuil Hall, etc. The intercontinental is a little further down on the water from the Marriott.

While I liked the Lenox I didn’t care for its location.

I got good prices on Hotwire.

I had looked into this hotels- the trip advisor reviews though say it is anything but clean...with reviews like these I would not even chance this place.

We've stayed there on several occasions and it was fine, clean and never any problems. But it's been a couple of years, so maybe it's gone downhill. Idk, reviews are mixed.

If budget allows, I would stay in either the Copley Marriot or the Marriot Long Wharf. Both are safe & touristy areas with lots to do. Research the T system & get a Charlie Card. Check out the New England Aquarium......& hunt down a JP Licks-best. ice cream. ever.

If budget allows, my vote is for the Liberty Hotel. It's right on the red line and is a fantastic hotel transformed from a jail.

JP Licks is good ice cream, but I prefer Toscanini's by Central Square in Cambridge.

Harbor Side Inn. We paid around $200 per night. Located on State Street, only one block from Boston Harbor. Very short walk to Faneuil Hall where they have a huge food court, with all different kinds of food that represent lots of different countries....Italian, German, Polish, American...you name it.

Hotel is right across the street from the Blue Line station (train/subway). Many attractions are within walking distance. Hotel isn't anything luxurious or fancy at all, but has been refurbished, and has character and personality. We've stayed there three times, and really like it. I've always felt safe staying in this area.
