Need ideas for rasing $300 for our trip to WDW

On the camping board shes bragging about donations she got from ppl on this board, so I guess she wont be needing to do anything to earn the money.

Nasty, just plain nasty.

I read this thread from start to finish earlier and chose not to post, but your stalking the OP of this thread over to the camping board is reprehensible and caused me to change my mind. You should be ashamed of yourself. She wasn't bragging, the subject only came up b/c of a comment I made to her. She seemed more grateful than anything over the gifts given to her.

OP, if you haven't already unsubscribed to this thread, most of us are cheering you on and hoping this trip comes together for you. Whatever kindness someone decides to show you is no one's business.

And people think that the camping board is snarky.

OP, you have gotten some really great tips...despite some very rude posters.

We have a similar situation for our October trip. We are also going down on a $300 budget. We are also tent camping, which we love, btw. My parents gave us MNSSHP tickets as an early Christmas present, which will be our only park day. After some unforeseen events, our budget is rather tight. DH had to pick up OT and extra yard work, but hopefully once he gets his checks from the yard bills, we'll be fine.

As for a PP who mentioned about needing money for food, we'll have a refrigerator, crock pot, griddle, and portable single-burner stove. We'll cook off of electricity (free at the site). Food is also not budgeted into our vacation money because food is budgeted into our regular budget. Cooking food at the site will cost no more than at home. Not sure how the original poster will be doing it, but I'd imagine that it would be similar. Even w/o a fridge, ice won't be that expensive for 6 days.

There is plenty of stuff to do for fun that is free at WDW. Window shopping at DTD is fun. Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to buy stuff at the shops to have fun. If her kids are anything like my DD, they know not to expect to get bought stuff when they go out. Even at 3, we can take DD into the toy aisle at Wal-Mart w/o her asking to be bought anything. We don't do it; she doesn't expect it.

You can also go through the resorts. And don't worry about us campers using your pool. Trust me, we really don't care.

Have you ever considered that some people tent camp because they actually like to tent camp? Just because we choose not to shell out at least $100/night on a room doesn't mean that we're second class, which is the impression that you are giving.

:thumbsup2

Looks like you beat me to the punch YodaGirl. Well said.

Wow. You're right. The OP got a free ticket for the 3-year old and some cash from someone else via PayPal.

Who is stalking who? Pot. Kettle. Black. When was the last time you posted on the Budget Board?

more reprehensible than making ppl so sorry for you that they donate money for a vacation< while you don't work? oh.

Let me reiterate:

A stay-at-home mom who raises several kids - all of whom she home schools - most definitely works.

Receiving a paycheck is not the definition of work.

see my post on the camping board.
and i did work while homeschooling my son. that was work.
Yea, I just get my paycheck while looking pretty and lifting 100plus lb ppl all day. That isn't work.

see my post on the camping board.
and i did work while homeschooling my son. that was work.

And so is what the op is doing.

Kudos to you for being a single mom who works and homeschools. I know that can't be easy.

My point is that I honestly didn't read bragging into the op's post on the camping board.

If I had posted a thread such as this, and received such snarky comments from people, I may not have posted back, either.

It's very easy to misread tone into message board posts, as it is also easier to be rude due to the level of anonymity. I just think that people should give the op the benefit of a doubt as to her motives.

ETA: You edit your post while I was typing my reply. Please don't misunderstand me. I'm not saying that you don't work. On the other hand, you have posted twice that the op does not work. Receiving a paycheck does not equal work. You can work and not receive a paycheck, just as you can work and receive a paycheck.

I think in this instance a point of clarification on work would be, someone who is contributing to the tax base. I am sure that being a home schooling- SAHM is work but there is not really any benefits to the societal good because there is money not being contributed to the tax base.

One could say that by not sending the kids to school there is a benefit to the school system but for every child not enrolled in school, the system loses money.

I have other observations but leaving for Disney in the AM and need to finish packing.

Personally, if I have a kid, I am sending them to boarding school. I can work, continue to pay an exorbitant amount of taxes, keep others gainfully employed and have well rounded children. Works for me.

more reprehensible than making ppl so sorry for you that they donate money for a vacation< while you don't work? oh.

Honestly, I know where you are coming from...but if a person wants to send money to anyone with a sad story on the internet, well, what can you say? I personally can not imagine being so naiive, but it is their choice.
I wouldn't call her post on the camping board bragging, but she should have probably kept it under wraps anyway.

Yodagirl, I am a WAHM, and I do not consider taking care of my kids a job or work. It is life. It is like a dad watching the kids and calling it babysitting. No, it is called PARENTING, and a choice you (the parent) made.

According to dictionary.com, the first definition of work is the "exertion or effort directed to produce or accomplish something".

I think that can be applied directly to parenting.

At any rate, I have a classroom of 3 year olds who are counting on me to be well rested in the morning.

At the end of the day, we are all here because of our love for Disney. I think that we should all agree to disagree. Rather than arguing over what is or is not implied or assumed, lets just focus on our love for the Mouse. :hippie:

I have never posted on the BB. But I just happened be over here much earlier today doing a little reading and due to the nastiness on this thread chose not to post. It had nothing to do with tracking a person down for the sole purpose of catching them at something so I could insult them.

Not sure why the question of whether or not I've ever posted here has any bearing. :confused3 Have you already searched my posts or something? Good Grief!

I did check back in to see if OP had ever replied and found Sarah's sweet comments and decided to post at that time. In light of her post on the camping board and nearly immediate report back here....I call it stalking at its worst.

There's the difference. No stalking involved for me. Just checking back in on a thread I'd already been reading and taking up for a sweet lady.

There is no pot or kettle.

What I am saying is that you reading and posting here is the same as Sarah reading and posting on the Camping Board. Neither one of you EVER post on the other's board. I don't know for sure why Sarah ended up on the Camping Board but I think you "happened" here after the OP made a comment about getting beaten up on the Budget Board this morning. While it is totally understandable that you want to read and support someone who is a Camping board regular, you still brought a fight from one board to another which is why I made the pot/kettle/black comment.

this is why I just have walk away from this board sometimes----she asked for advise on raising $ not if we think she should go...no matter what the situation, it is not necessary to be rude. im hoping they close this thread soon...

First of all, I do not consider the boards as one belonging to another. They are public. I absolutely have no problem with anyone posting any where they choose. This "fight" began on the camping boards when Sarah brought it over there. The "happened to be here" comment was meant to be a little sarcastic. I very often read threads in other Forums whether it be here, photography or parks without posting on them. I never went anywhere looking for a fight. In fact I try to avoid them. Not the case for your friend who sought the OP out for that very reason. You say you don't know "why" she ended up on the camping boards...We both know that was her one and only purpose. None of this would have happened at all if she hadn't posted such ugly comments on the camping board. It's bad enough they were made here. I suppose I can congratulate her on accomplishing the mission.

I am not angry with anyone, but that was absolutely not fair to bring it over there. The debate was already happening here.

It is a shame that someone who opens a thread w/a simple question is met with such a response.

I felt the same way when I read the replies earlier and DID walk away, but the rudeness found it's way to another Forum.

Sarah is not my "friend" any more than you are. She's just a fellow poster, the same as you :confused3.

I have no problem with people posting where ever they choose. You are the one who seems to have a problem with Sarah posting over on the Camping Board. But in the next breath you protect your right to post here on the Budget Board. You can't have it both ways. Either it's OK for both of you to disrupt the threads of it's not OK for either of you to disrupt the threads.

As for the OP. I am still hoping that she makes it to WDW for her kids. They put in the time and energy to earn the GAD vouchers. I'm just sad that this thread turned out to be more of a direct money maker for her rather than a thread for ideas to make money.

Good grief. There's a few on here I would like to call a CGW. If you need to know what that means PM me.

I could never judge one on religious beliefs or any other difference than mine. God is way too big for me to fathom and worry with judging others. The point is the people worked for the tickets and they want to go to Disney. I hope she can do it and all will go well. It's too bad the tix expire and she can't put the trip off. I wish I could say what I really feel on here but I have never been nasty on here nor do I plan on it now. There's lot's of people who go that can't afford it but go anyway. At least she has set up a budget and wants to stay in it.

Ok, Donnie. I'll bite. What does CGW mean? Please share with the rest of the board ... no need to PM :goodvibes.

Now, while what Kim is saying is true, so too, does Sarah have a point.

1. Sarah should not have made such comments in poor taste. However, the truth does happen to leave such a poor taste in one's mouth. It is quite interesting how that works, is it not? The truth hurts.

2. Kim, you should, in all honesty, just let it drop. No need to white knight for someone over the internet, no? If someone wants to follow a person into another thread, then who are you to judge? Didn't the bible say it was not Man's domain to judge, but his own? The same applies to you, Sarah.

3. While the OP is rather silly, wanting to go to Disney on just 300 dollars (which looks possible, in theory. regardless of how much fun I would think my family would have, to subject them to four days without adequate shelter and food would be a much worse trade-off than a day or two at a theme park. I would not have the heart to inflict such things on my family.), why not, instead of going to Disney, buy your children some clothing that fits them, and is snug? While SC is not very far into the north, I am sure that heating is very costly in the winter months.

4. Which brings up another point. Why does fun need to be had in a theme park? Can you not find a place upon which you and your family agree to be fun, to play games and play sports with one another? A park of some sort? Or perhaps a public swimming pool near by? Much cheaper, much more cost effective, and about the same level of fun.

5. To set fun before well-being is not fun in the slightest. If one is to be miserable on a trip, from lack of warm clothing and food, and exchanges this for one or two days at a theme park, do you think fun and despair would settle out on the balance scales? My belief is that it wouldn't.

6. You mentioned your youngest was 3. Do you remember what happened to you when you were 3? It would be more logical to have a family member or friend to look over the youngest of the bunch, thereby dropping some of the cost (in both gas, because added weight in one car [Not commenting on weight, but simple logistics here. If you get offended, that is your problem, not mine.] does decrease in gas mileage, increases on the strain of the axles, suspenders, and all the fun junk that makes a car work. If your car is already unreliable, why set yourself and your family up for a situation that, due to Murphy's Law, is bound to happen and probably strand you all in the middle of SC and Florida, without a way home.

7. All in all, not to criticize your parenting technique, though horrid as I might believe it to be, your money is better spent on not providing entertainment in a short burst, but providing better clothing and food, the mainstays of our human, civilized lives. I also find that you have posted that you are rather strapped for money, but yet have a high speed internet connection, computer, and digital camera.

What I'm saying is; Kim, Sarah. Stop fighting. Mother of Six with 300 dollars? Spend it on clothing for your children, not on Disney. Wait until you can afford a decent trip where everyone can be happy and decently fed/clothed, before you spend the money on a trip that has a high potential of disaster, as well as misery.

Ok she's not your friend. My mistake.

I absolutely have no problem with Sarah or anyone else posting on the camping boards. I only felt it was wrong of her to hijack a thread in another forum for the purpose of attacking MomofSix, who incidentally mentioned that she did at least get a few good ideas to raise the remaining cash needed for her trip.

It also bugged me was that you accused me of bringing a fight over here. Just by looking at this thread from the beginning, it's easy to see that you were already at each others throats over here. I brought no disruption to what was already a war zone.

This argument was brought to the camping boards and found it's way back to its rightful home.

I don't feel that OP intended to get people to feel sorry for her. If someone did show her a little kindness by way of a gift then that should be OK. Her question seemed genuine to me, but everyone is entitled to have their own thoughts on that.

I hope she makes it to WDW as well.
